While protesting racism was a justified cause, how many autonomous zones, nightly riots in Portland and other fringe events that had nothing to do with the BLM protests ignored by the media and the government. Imagine if anyone had suggested freezing the millions they raised, or doxxing people who donated to the cause. That would be an unimaginable dystopia. All it took was a few images and a smear campaign to give people the justification they needed to be okay with an authoritarian crackdown on people they deem "white supremacists." I think it makes the truckers more sympathetic and Trudeau look like a frightened member of the aristocracy, protecting the rich who seem to have little concern for those who bring them their stuff while they sit at home rage tweeting.

The 20th century union movement succeeded massively in saving Depression-era capitalism from itself and powering broad middle class prosperity — with a huge tailwind from America’s dominant post-WW2 industrial base, of course.

I remember laughing at the sight of all of these "journalists" covering the Black Lives Matter protests last year, who insisted that the protests were "largely peaceful", even though these statements were often made when there were fires appearing in the background. Nonetheless, there was obvious sympathy for the protests and it was deemed to be a just cause. So the subject matter of the protests became the story, as opposed to questions about whether it was being hijacked by extremist elements (eg. Antifa).
By contrast, the truckers' convoy doesn't fit into the comfortable narrative that our governments have continued to feed us, both about Covid, and the necessity of all of the restrictions that have been introduced in the name of "following the science". Furthermore, there is little sympathy accorded to the protesters, who in fact have been largely peaceful (there's been hardly any destruction of property anywhere). But somehow, they are dismissed as "racists", who are being funded by far-right fringe elements south of the border.
The double-standard in the coverage is very notable.
I live just about a mile from where George Floyd was murdered. The violence that followed was blatantly engineered by nefarious outsiders so that the narrative of violence could be spread by the media. In reality the vast majority of the protesters were peaceful. I had a friend injured by teargas. After the riots and arson ended the community collected food donations for those in need--it filled a large portion of a neighborhood park. It was amazing to see the solidarity of our racially mixed community. This never made it into the propaganda media's story.

No one has to take a wheelbarrow full of dollar bills to the grocery store to buy a loaf of bread. We don't have paramilitaries supported by the major parties. Teaching people to love their loss of freedom so much they don't realize it's gone.

Forget the past efforts, and quit naming past dictators as if they are still relevant. Propaganda today is more scientific and far "gentler" than it was in the mid-20th century, and because of that it is far more insidious and effective.
I'm sure everyone here thinks they are the ones who see through it, but beware. We've all been conditioned for decades. Modern propaganda of the Bernays kind was originally the handmaiden of capitalism and the ad sales people. If you can sell toothpaste effectively, you can sell a political candidate too. So what is called for is leaving the grid of pop culture and infotainment. A counter-cultural movement. The cultural left then took up the “rebellion” baton from the economic left as Reagan-era economic growth and declining interest rates ushered in a multi-decade expansion that had little need or room for unions. And a new generation of Americans learned to borrow their way to prosperity if income didn’t do it. We haven’t paid that piper yet.
Now here we are with the cultural left bloated and corrupt from its own largely successful historical journey from 60s-era civil rights to now. The cultural left is in the pocket of big business and the economic left remains back on its heels not knowing what to say or do for broad public support. Some of it has fused with the cultural left, either out of strategy or historical ignorance or both.
Race Marxism is a reasonably good descriptor — “Give us money because we’re historically oppressed _______ (fill in the blank)”. Appealing to the abstract idea of economic justice doesn’t fly. It’s too complicated and wonky, it demands too much thought, it demands an idea of citizenship and vision of society that’s too complex for soundbites. So we get the race hustle as a teleological 3-Card Monte on the street corner of the American Mind (if that’s not an oxymoron) and the corporations, governments and institutions lay down the hustle on employees. That makes the hustle effectively a cultural operating system that anyone defies at their peril.
Well, its a lot easier than facing the more abstract questions of capital vs. labor. And it lets the “leaders” preen with virtue. I remember laughing at the sight of all of these "journalists" covering the Black Lives Matter protests last year, who insisted that the protests were "largely peaceful", even though these statements were often made when there were fires appearing in the background. Nonetheless, there was obvious sympathy for the protests and it was deemed to be a just cause. So the subject matter of the protests became the story, as opposed to questions about whether it was being hijacked by extremist elements (eg. Antifa).
By contrast, the truckers' convoy doesn't fit into the comfortable narrative that our governments have continued to feed us, both about Covid, and the necessity of all of the restrictions that have been introduced in the name of "following the science". Furthermore, there is little sympathy accorded to the protesters, who in fact have been largely peaceful (there's been hardly any destruction of property anywhere). But somehow, they are dismissed as "racists", who are being funded by far-right fringe elements south of the border.
The double-standard in the coverage is very notable.
I live just about a mile from where George Floyd was murdered. The violence that followed was blatantly engineered by nefarious outsiders so that the narrative of violence could be spread by the media. In reality the vast majority of the protesters were peaceful. I had a friend injured by teargas. After the riots and arson ended the community collected food donations for those in need--it filled a large portion of a neighborhood park. It was amazing to see the solidarity of our racially mixed community. This never made it into the propaganda media's story.
I know someone that was murdered by BLM protesters for saying that all lives matter, so I disagree that they were peaceful. Burning, looting, murder. Not peaceful.

We've got several friends who drove up to Ottawa to join the protests.
