Obama (and Holder, etc.) took the surveillance apparatus created by Bush and Cheney via the Patriot Act and re-trained it on their domestic political opposition. The Democrats are straight up fascists at this point — colluding with private corporations to suppress political dissent; attempting to bankrupt, imprison and (I strongly suspect) assassinate the leading candidate of the opposing party; unconstitutionally holding political protesters in jail without trial for years on end; and on and on.

Yuri Bezmenov's avatar

The Bushes and Obamas are besties now. Neocons have joined the DNC and claim they are the “resistance” against fascist Putin puppets like Tulsi and Trump. A marriage made in hell.

That wedding you speak of…Maybe the disgusting scene from the Olympics opening was a metaphor for the wedding feast at Satan’s table. Darn, now it makes sense.

feldspar's avatar

The Racket News comment section is a metaphor for the wedding feast at Satan’s table.

These days, you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a metaphor for the wedding feast at Satan’s table.

Danno's avatar

Does Substack have a way for us to block comments from trolls?

Barry Wireman's avatar

I suppose swinging a dead cat around in the air is better than using it as a fuck doll, you know, like you would.

JennyStokes's avatar

Elisabeth. Obviously you have absolutely NO understanding of History or art.

This was a tableaux by a Dutch artist. Nothing to do with the Last Supper. You read the MSM.

Timothy G McKenna's avatar

Right?

Jeez - I wish I had a nickel for each of the times my friends told me that, after I complained about the Opening Ceremonies.

I had the distinct pleasure of telling them, "Oh yeah? I took French in Junior High School - two whole years - and even I know that "Cene" is French for The Last Supper, and that the title of the piece was "La Cene dans un Scene sur la Seine" - "The Last Supper on a Stage on the Seine".

Dopes.

I typed the sentence into the Translate app on my iPhone and it gave in English what you wrote. I wonder though if the next iOS update will give something else.

Dan Hochberg's avatar

Agree. And you are responding to someone I gave up responding to because just not worth the effort.

feldspar's avatar

"Cene" is not French for The Last Supper. It's French urban slang for NASCAR. The whole thing was a subversive, backdoor plug for NASCAR. Talk to Steve Bannon about it. He'll set you straight on the matter.

Marilyn F's avatar

Steve Bannon 😔 I miss him so much.

Don’t be ridiculous. Dinner with the Greek Gods LOL. Then I suppose they didn’t need to issue an apology for offending Christians.

What struck me as odd is anybody feeling they had to apologize to Christians for offending them.

the Dutch artist had been riffing on Leonardo's Last Supper, so it was a riff on a riff- thus yes it does track back to the last supper!!

Explaining reality to Christians will make the comments here extra frothy!

John Mitchell's avatar

Isaac Newton laid the foundations of the modern understanding of physical reality in terms of universal mathematical laws. He was also a devout Christian. Before him, Johannes Kepler discovered basic mathematical laws of planetary motion. He was also Christian, and viewed his discovery as seeing into the mind of God.

The mathematician Georg Cantor related his theory of transfinite numbers to his concept of a transcendent being.

The logician Kurt Gödel, who famously used logical reasoning to demonstrate the limits of logical reasoning, was a theist.

Yet, despite these and many other examples, you and others like you believe that Christianity, or religion in general, is somehow incompatible with rationality and a scientific understanding of the physical world. It's a viewpoint that's remarkably superficial, and unscientific to boot, given how much historical evidence it ignores.

The huge percentage of Scots that kicked off the industrial revolution were educated (for free) by a system that believed learning about how the world worked was essential to learning how God worked. Because He created the heavens and the earth, it was man's duty to study them.

It was a core goal of the church to enable the capable, regardless of class, to learn as much as possible about God's works, without impediment. This core belief became the reason for free higher education in Scotland, with woe unto any politician or even king who stood in the way!

feldspar's avatar

You need to look into Chicago style politics, aka The Chicago Way. Your Bush hate is irrationally applied to the tactics on Chicago and Illinois.

DaveL's avatar

Another version of the whole trend we’ve seen the last few years was that it was a potential Bin Laden saw as needing something to trigger it. Then he acted on it, by planning and executing 9/11.

fluffy's avatar

Cool story bro. Bin Laden was a tool for the Anglo-American spook network, along with his family. By the time 9/11 occurred he was dying from diabetes complications. Multiple reputable sources corroborate that he died in 2001.

I hope they’ll be able to hold up after receiving the same treatment as Tulsi. Matt has endured it so far.

I understand cuz I lived there and saw his mafia convince a judge to open the sealed divorce document of Jack Ryan and his ex, Jeri, to expose him and then win the state senate seat which directly led to his presidency. He had little to no senate term before being catapulted. Only the dem political mafia can make that happen.

DarkSkyBest's avatar

This is a story that totally reflects The Chicago Way. That never got any play. Just like the national media now.

Of course, we people with a little memory (and values) will be gone soon.

madaboutmd's avatar

Jack Ryan's sister was a client, so while it made local news, as you say it wasn't widely reported. BO was knighted by the Axelrod mafia and now BO is the king maker. Ryan was an investment banker and retired early to voluntarily teach at a Catholic high school in Chicago before deciding to jump into politics in '04.

The reason the custody/divorce documents were sealed was because of allegations (of a sexual nature) made by Jeri and in order to protect their autistic son, Jack requested they be sealed. They were until Obama's mafia came along and somehow convinced a judge that was necessary in a political campaign. Obama is a POS.

DarkSkyBest's avatar

Thank you for this post. I only vaguely remembered the reporting at the time, which of course was not framed to do anything but make Ryan look guilty of something. No reporting on why the docs were sealed and then, unsealed.

Illinois, the Land of Lincoln, and --- Lawfare. People need to understand The Chicago Way. But it is probably too late.

Janine's avatar

But the modern Democratic party loves Cheney! Liz is their staunch defender -- all the Never-Trumpers and the great "left" neocon crew, including our Nobel Prize winning clearly captured President who promised not to do regime change. They hate Tulsi and they hate Trump precisely because they didn't want endless war, and the powers that be clearly do as evidenced by the chaos engulfing our world.

Tex Regan's avatar

The Chicago Way went Federal via Obama and his Chicago outfit. Bush/Cheney would never pull the crap the politicians in Illinois have been doing for decades!

Tack60's avatar

The Chicago model of patronage hires as useful (and convenient) idiots is likely the plan for Washington. Same old crap. Can you say pension debt? I recall walking into any City "service" location and receiving a belligerent assault from the army of government "help". Deflection and misdirection were the primary weapons. Someone mentioned Rahm here. Even he couldn't get anything done. Sad truth is it doesn't matter who is mayor: the government does not run the city.

Drew's avatar

They completely crumpled up and folded into the DNC machine?

Once upon a time Obama politicked like a leftist, before he ever ran for Senate. It's been a slow motion slide to the right ever since.

Chilblain Edward Olmos's avatar

Authoritarianism isn’t left OR right. It’s just the will to power.

PostWoke's avatar

True enough. There have been authoritarian Nazi's on the right and authoritarian Soviets on the left. Today the Democrats are the clear and present danger. Their sky marshals and attack dogs are the iconography of the modern totalitarian American left and its censorship state.

Tom Potts's avatar

Nazi’s were Socialists, leftists. Translate the acronym into English. NAZI’s were the National Socialist Worker’s Party of Germany. Socialism. Leftist.

feldspar's avatar

Oh, we got one of these on the thread.

Jack Gallagher's avatar

Your description of the acronym is of course, correct, but at that time any German officer would have recoiled at the suggestion that they were anywhere close to being communists, whom they hated. "Socialist" may have been in the party's name, but they didn't think that they were on the "left" (i.e. closer to commnists than to the right side of the political spectrum) as that description is understood today.

Chilblain Edward Olmos's avatar

Let’s not get into semantics. Technically they were Fascists.

Chilblain Edward Olmos's avatar

Agreed. It’s weird how in the USA it’s flipped in half a century. Of course Communism was always authoritarian, yet the American right was also pretty authoritarian throughout the 20th century. It’s bizarro world.

DarkSkyBest's avatar

Slow motion slide to Whatever It Takes. Which on the day he announced his candidacy for president in Springfield, Illinois, reporting claimed that at the last minute they stuffed the Rev. Jeremiah Wright somewhere. He was there, then he was not, according to reporting at the time. Obama was for gay marriage, AFTER he was re-elected. Hot mic to Russian president, he will have "more flexibility after the election . . ." Obama never slid to the right. He never left Obamaland.

Kammy and Walz are his ultimate achievement. If the harvest goes well, maybe we won't even have to wait till mid-November to know who is our next President. (They can count mail-in ballots up to two weeks after the election here in Illinois, I think.)

Alice Ball's avatar

Major narcissist with dark triad personality traits. He didn’t do it all alone, but I blame him for the complete corruption of every important national agency. He coerced and threatened and lured until he had a team of cheaters and smearers and liars surrounding while he drove the country into the totalitarian dictatorship it is today. We’re in his 3rd term and he’ll cheat in any way possible to have a 4th. My dearest wish is not that he’s prosecuted and jailed (as he deserves), but that he is rendered absolutely irrelevant —only this can deflate the Everest size ego. According Seymour Hersh's July 27, 2024 piece on Substack ("Leaving Las Vegas"), an unnamed senior official in Washington told him:

“On Sunday morning [July 21], with the approval of Pelosi and Schumer, Obama called Biden after breakfast and said, ‘Here’s the deal. We have Kamala’s approval to invoke the 25th Amendment.'”

Hersh tends to have good sources. He uncovered the Mai Lai massacre in the U.S. war in Vietnam and the torture system at Abu Ghraib prison.

Yes I seem to remember that. Fuzzy memory due to advanced age.

Speaking of Calley who took the fall for the massacre, he just died recently. Right here in Columbus, GA.

Yeah, the sad truth is she really doesn't have much leverage. The machine will keep grinding her down no matter what she does. This is WHY people usually bend the knee. Do you see any accountability for this stuff, ever? Nope. So why would you, as someone who is a victim of it, expect it to ever stop?

I've been on a long slow slide towards it since the early 2000s, but I'm at the point reading things like this article in disgust where I feel like a stranger in my own country, and consider the government that is supposed to represent me to be a hostile, foreign power.

That is what I meant by "as a whole". Many voters have had 60 years of socialist indoctrination and only about a quarter of them are die hard extremist. Tendencies? I think not, way past that John.

Threatening Biden with the 25th to cede the nomination to Harris, no voters input, no real convention, just anoint her as Pres candidate, pick VP, and tell the nation that this is the new normal in a democracy and start campaigning the next day, while the voters haven't even blinked.

Think back over the last, say, 20 years. Did you protest against the Iraq war? How about protesting at Occupy Wall Street? Were you a member of the Tea Party? A member of #TheResistance? Did you disagree with the government’s covid response? It’s nearly certain that everybody with a political pulse has crossed the government at one time or another. How comfortable are you with the idea that the person you’re protesting against can shut off your bank account?

Because now, it seems, those perfectly legal actions at least have the potential to come with harsh monetary consequences, as well as the ensuing chaos caused by financial ruin. And this is happening all without a single shred of oversight or due process. It’s just some asshole in an expensive suit giving a list of ‘subversives’ to another asshole in an expensive suit. The no-fly list but with the very real potential to ruin your life.

josh shuffman's avatar

I have the impression that they do stuff like this to figures like Gabbard as a way of seeing what they can get away with, against whom, and for how long. So they can deny, retreat, and adjust their paradigm for the next big target; meanwhile they put 20 people on their “ssss” list that you HAVEN’t heard of but who they think merit being singled out for harassment.

Max Dublin's avatar

What you describe is what they have in mind for the prominent types. For ordinary folks the solution for control is much more subtle and global. They want normies to be drugged (with recreational or psychotropic drugs) fat, brainwashed and generally fearful. They want the fear to grow to the point where it's more scary to rebel against that morass than to just remain in it. At that point they will have almost effortless complete control of your life.

The past decade of hysterical ululations about the incipient rise of MAGA fascism has been a smokescreen, a way for #Resistance smegma to incite a moral panic. Lionel Shriver has written an entire book about how such moral panics are always in fashion during authoritarian times. When the public is effectively terrified, they’ll acquiesce to all sorts of previously unthinkable changes, like wide-scale censorship or sweeping new domestic surveillance programs.

Even if this story is "covered" by the mainstream media, it will be done in such a way as to justify this shit by feigning concern over Muh Russia™ or whatever.

Ellen Evans's avatar

"Democrats don't want to govern. They want to rule."

I have been saying this since Barack Obama's election. A ruling elite is and always has been the progressives' goal - for roughly a century, now, and was core to the "fundamental transformation" of the United States of America.

When people I knew were astonished at the media going berserker on Trump, I told them it was only to be expected, after they spent over 8 years performing the journalistic equivalent of anilingus on Obama's lovely brown derriere.

Unfortunately, as Walter Kirn noted so astutely, many Americans have grown so mentally lazy they don't want the responsibility of self-governance, which, if unchecked, will lead to the destruction of the once-great nation whose Revolutionary battlefields were watered by the blood running in my own veins.

Drew's avatar

Carter is an outlier. Are there any other Presidents of any party that didn't want to rule since George Washington's initial example?

Ellen Evans's avatar

We know John Adams won't qualify for such a list, nor Abraham Lincoln; perhaps Dwight Eisenhower would? I think Calvin Coolidge might, also. Certainly not Herbert Hoover.

I'd have to do more research - much more than my time would comfortably accommodate, to be even reasonably certain of my own opinion on this.

But it's a very good question. Washington was something very special.

Alice Ball's avatar

I’m crying laughing over Obama’s derrière. 🤣🤣🤣

So so true!!

People, you’ll all have to move to red states. It’s really the only protection out there.

Ellen Evans's avatar

I live in the section of Maine which provides one electroral vote to the Republican candidate every 4 years. We cover most of the land, but not as large a percentage of the population.

But we don't make a difference in red states - we maybe can, a little, in bluer or purply ones.

EndOfTheRoad's avatar

Running away is not a solution. They will come for everyone.

Alice Ball's avatar

They are now and will continue but a great thing about red states is they typically have red governors and legislators that protect the taxpayers from the overreaching grasp of the left. If you live somewhere where the Left is aggressive, look around.

Ellen Evans's avatar

I'm quite certain she smiled nicely and kindly at the judge who ordered her to turn over the DNA evidence which freed an innocent man on death row, which evidence Harris had fought tooth and nail to withhold.

She must have positively beamed at the 1,500 citizens she jailed for marijuana "infractions," and upon those poor parents who, unable to afford the hefty fines, were jailed for their childrens' truancy.

As Lewis Carroll wrote about the oysters,

Here is an example just for fun i decided to go and vote in last election

Basically I flip a coin when I get to the polling booth

I was told I was not on the voting registry that’s not possible as I have a state drivers license

So I was told I need to fill out a special ballot and it would go in another box and they would decide if my vote counts

Based on my racial profile and age and gender I believe my ballot was discarded

We need a way to look up how we voted to ensure the system is honest

DarkSkyBest's avatar

Uh, just because you have a driver's license . . . Polling places aren't like McDonald's. You are supposed to vote where you reside. And, no voting more than one time.

Since I have never cast a provisional ballot, I don't know if or how different jurisdictions explain where they go. Seems fair to ask if it was counted or not. And, why.

But one way to take out the uncertainty is to take it seriously.

After the 2016 Peasants' Rebellions (Trump and Brexit) our ownership class and its political and media arms declared war and congealed to form a single cohesive unit dedicated to 1) regaining social and political control; and 2) making sure their power/control could never be threatened again.

In every sphere of society an implicit threat has gone out, backed by intense social policing: you're either with us or you're a far-right bigoted Deplorable, and if you want to maintain your career, your status and lifestyle, and your chances of ascending the managerial ladder, your every thought and deed needs to blindly support the Regime and its narratives.

The MSM etc have en masse become Narrative Enforcement agents because their careers, status and social lives demand it. They are now the Pravda for our postnational post-democratic Soviet America.

Paul Harper's avatar

Please don't forget the "Bernie Bro Thug" category. A significant subset on this thread equate collective social action as an expression of totalitarianism.

We are all Tulsi Gabbard now.

Yes, the "modernization" of the law against domestic propaganda (now handled as Official Narratives from the State Dept (CIA) to be spewed forth by State Media (which replaced legacy MSM). Additionally the Countering Foreign Propaganda and Disinformation Act of 2016, which enabled Russiagate.

Tulsi Gabbard served her country in the military (is that even allowed? I have seen at least one Congressman who wears an IDF uniform, and "ex"-spooks have heavily infiltrated Congress). Hillary labeled Gabbard a "Putin Puppet" "Russian Asset", probably the reason for surveillance. The Clintons received $500,000 (not the Clinton Foundation) and personal thanks from Putin in 2010 when Hillary was Secretary of State, and Bill traipsed the globe (at a Moscow bank for Putin) giving $300,000 to $700,000 "speeches" to those wanting favors.

But look at the bright side! Biden created many new jobs, most were probably in the TSA surveilling people and probably explains why so many people are bumped from flights. Biden (like Netanyahu) wants his domestic enemies as provoked/ miserable as possible. To Biden, harassment of political opponents comes naturally.

Vance crashed into Harris' media this afternoon in Wisconsin. He asked the media, "have they given you guys explanations of why she won't take questions from reporters? The tell was not one of the reporters said a word. They didn't know if they should answer, ask a re-directing question, nothing, just crickets. Finally one intrepid "reporter" spoke up asking Vance, " what would you like to hear from her?" Vance went on to say how about what she want's to do, why her positions have changed, etc. At least the reporter asked a question, but I would have had tons of questions for Vance. They probably didn't want to give him air time. The cabal is going to do everything it can keep Kamala from putting herself in a bad light.

Michael's avatar

Exactly! Where is the outrage? At the intrusion for nothing, for the obvious waste of money? For the horrible look? This should be an easy one, why is nobody but Matt touching it?!?

wrknight's avatar

Where is the outrage?

It doesn't exist except for a few like Matt and his readers. The rest of the population is too distracted. In addition to the normal distractions of life, (earning a living, feeding the family, taking care of children, etc.) there are a jillion other distractions to keep people from worrying about important stuff like war, public debt, encroaching security state and the like. And it's not accidental.

Karl Marx once said "Religion is the opiate of the masses". At the time, he was right. Today, however, the opiate of the masses is the media which is corporate owned and controlled to entertain rather than inform.

So we are living in a world in which the vast majority of Americans are deprived of actual news and information while being entertained with every known form of amusement. So it's no wonder there is no outrage except for a few voices crying out in an otherwise empty space. What one wonders (and should worry about) is how long those few voices like Matt's will be permitted to cry out.

If they hate him enough to do everything that they’ve done (at least 20 horrifically un-American fascist actions), surely you see it’s not just hate but FEAR. They fear him bc he represents their loss of power and control. Nothing could be more clear. We cannot survive another 4 years of this with Dems & Independents not seeing the truth. Hold your nose and do it for your country. Trump didn’t do one thing they said he did—-it was the largest con of all time & Dems like my sister still believe it all. The cognitive dissonance of “seeing” would destroy their worldview and that’s an upside down feeling. I’m confident that Trump will have a good admiration staffed with people who want to right the ship. And the blob won’t get away with it this time bc they can fire all CIA FBI SS leaders. They can’t get rid of every snake, but if the chief snakes (Clapper, Brennan, Comey, Pelosi, Obama) are fangless, maybe Congress will actually pass laws making our dystopian society illegal. Pacificus's avatar

Sorry to rain on your cynicism, S.L., but in politics as in life, there is such a thing as Better or Worse....

Slightly Lucid's avatar

Ok - tell me which is better or worse.

Trump's bombastic racism made the left and the liberals furious. Attention was paid to children in cages, rapes in immigration centers, the inhumane treatment of refugees by the border control.

Biden's quiet racism, and the fact that he's a democrat and therefore beyond critique allowed him to continue Trump's racist border policies and no one paid attention.

Which is worse? Bush or Obama? Bush did obscene war crimes. He lied to the American people. He passed the Patriot act. He tortured people. Eventually, the American people turned on him, especially after Abu Graib. They marched. They turned on that unholy godforsaken war.

Obama did not revoke the Patriot Act. In fact, he gave it teeth. He didn't close Gitmo. He didn't close our black sites. What he did do is take Bush's imperial powers and double down - having weekly meetings about his extrajudicial kill lists which was expanded to do away with habeas corpus and kill Americans abroad. Liberals lunched, because Gosh - he was SO GOOD LOOKING.

What about Reagan V. Clinton. Reagan went on a spree of deregulation, however, he was opposed. He couldn't get it done. Clinton managed to finally kill off those pesky unions, destroy glass-steagel, gut media regulations. Liberals cheered as he passed Nafta! (In his defense, his dirty wars weren't quite so egregious as Reagans.)

Now, let's look at Harris V. Trump. Tell me which is better? They BOTH support genocide. They both want war (one with Russia, the other with China - both fucking insane.) If Harris wins - America will continue to support Israel down to the last dead Palestinian. Liberals will continue to worry about the hurt feelings of Jewish people (ignoring that Jewish people are at the head of the pro-palestinian campus movements.) Police will continue to set-upon students. But - Liberals won't lift a finger because to criticize her would be both racist and sexist.

Say, instead, we elect that openly fascist pig. What happens then? Well, HE sends out cops, liberals will throw a fit and start taking free speech and the consitution seriously again, for one thing. People will be OUTRAGED that he's backing a genocide on behalf of AIPAC and will show up in droves to express that outrage.

Now, I suppose if you are happy with the way things are going, Harris is 'better' for you.

As far as I am concerned - who is better and who is worse is an impossible choice to make. They both back a genocide. And that makes them both equally evil.

Tucker’s Mama's avatar

But I’m still solidly left of center altho I identify as I these days. I’m looking forward to Gabbard ‘s next steps re this.

You're not alone.

I'm a senior and a leftist. People call me a "hard leftist" now when I think I was a mild leftist if not an outright moderate in the 1970s. I recall the Reagan 80s as being harshly right wing, when I think St. Ronnie himself would be considered a leftist today.

I also support Gabbard even though she doesn't represent my view of the world in a lot of aspects. She seems honest and that's possibly the greatest treasure of all.

Indecisive decider's avatar

We need more voters like you.

Ann22's avatar

I like things about Gabbard as well. I liked her more before I heard her support Trump’s stolen election drivel. Very disappointing.

Pacificus's avatar

Hate to tell you Ann--the 2020 election was rigged... the laptop lie/coverup was only the start... don't ne afraid to learn something new and change your position. A realize that a system that will surveil Tulsi would not hesitate to rig an election.

Ann22's avatar

When you consider the scale of “rigging” a national election, fraud involving so many votes, recalls, involving all levels of government, including local, and all those eyes and ears, and courts, judges, ….

When you provide examples of fraud at the level it would take to throw the election….I’m happy to “learn”. 🙄

Jonathan's avatar

The scale required to throw a national election is not that big.

Are you aware the outcome of the 2020 election hinged on just a few 10,000s of votes in key swing states?

Perhaps the Presidential election is the one remaining institution in American politics that has not been deeply corrupted. I don't know.

But let's not exaggerate the scale of fraud required to swing the outcome. It could be accomplished by compromising a few strategically chosen polling stations in Milwaukee, Detroit, Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Phoenix.

Don't you think it's weird that there were nursing homes in Wisconsin where the voter participation rate was 100%? Biden won Wisconsin by 20k votes.

Indecisive decider's avatar

I don't think the election was stolen. But to play devil's advocate, are we to truly believe that the secret service, FBI, CIA, CDC, FDA, FAA and most other government agencies are run like a dysfunctional whore house, but our elections are run like a Swiss watch? Hard to believe that is true either.

Pacificus's avatar

51 intel guys lie on Biden's behalf right before the election, and you are still convinced that the whole thing wasn't rigged? I suppose the laptop lie was just a one-off, right?

Alan Domzalski's avatar

One of the commenters during Matt and Walter's podcast on Monday suggested that should Trump win, he should appoint Tulsi head of the TSA, with the mission to dismantle it, and then salt the earth it once occupied. Credit to the writer, I'm only paraphrasing!

MCL's avatar

The next time Trump wants to take control of the day's news cycle he should release that Tulsi is being considered for Secretary of Defense because he wants no new wars, no DEI, an audit, trimming of the bloated general ranks, and a military readiness review in his second term.

Alice Ball's avatar

I think he’d hire her in a minute!! Along with all honest people who love their country and will fight to get it back, regardless of party.

Bull Hubbard's avatar

It would be a sensible move and I'd like to believe that it's possible, but I can't see any former political rival getting into a Trump admin. His ego is too colossal.

Jonathan's avatar

You misunderstand Trump. He has learned how to be a politician now. He publicly expresses his friendship to snakes like Lindsey Graham.

J.D. Vance was once a never-Trumper.

Bull Hubbard's avatar

When did Trump stroke Graham? I missed that. It's nauseating. I haven't heard Vance's anti-Trump statements, either . . . I don't doubt you, but have you a link?

I get the impression that Trump will shit on those who somehow contradict him or wound his ego and then will turn around and praise them once they reverse themselves or agree with anything he says.

I'd just like to make clear that I'm OK with this and fully support him for Prez, MAGA all the way. Despite his faults, he's at least an "America First" populist (if we can take his "Agenda 57" seriously) and the clear choice against the absolute shit show of the DP, which has made no platform statements as far as I know. The choice couldn't be clearer . . . but I digress and am getting garrulous.

"Neither Gabbard nor, apparently, the whistleblowing Marshals know why the former congresswoman would be on a terror watch list. "

My guess is they wanted to intimidate her. they wanted her to know they had power, and she had better behave.

Yes, that's the case. By putting innocent people on TSDB they can strip them of their Constitutional rights and follow and electronically surveil them for life. She is very lucky they blew the whistle. Even if it will be hard to go through the process of fighting back, it's better than succumbing unknowingly to a life of unwarranted surveillance.

Debibliovore Robinson's avatar

Hear, hear re: the whistleblowers. I'm so grateful to these whistleblowers, and to the attorneys who are actively pushing back against organizational efforts to find and punish them. Much as I abhor the broader story and the context(s) that birthed it, I am grateful for the courage also here displayed.

Debibliovore Robinson's avatar

Spot on. The would-be intimidators being serially and collectively cowardly, they can't fathom how such signaling is interpreted--as call to action, lest even worse come to pass!--by those with even an iota of courage.

Jala's avatar

Tulsi will survive intimidation!

John Mitchell's avatar

It depends on how dangerous they consider her to be to their continued hold on power. It's not clear if Julian Assange has survived mentally, though he's still alive.

It may have been fortunate for Edward Snowden in the end that the U.S. government trapped him in Russia, making him hard for them to get at.

They accuse us of the very thing they do. When I think of the Twitter Files I still get cold chills down my spine. My liberal friends who would have not approved in earlier days now just shrug it off. When the liberals start censoring and spying on their opponents we are in big trouble.

Eric's avatar

"My liberal friends who would have not approved in earlier days now just shrug it off."

Yup.

Celayne Jones's avatar

It’s for our own good they think.

Alice Ball's avatar

Masters of projection. Profoundly since 2015. Twitter Files had them praying it could be buried. And when it couldn’t, they just papered over it like it never happened. The only thing that gives me hope is that I think the Dem leaders/ Intel/Deep State haven’t entirely adjusted to an open Twitter/X. They hate Elon for sure but every dumbass post is laughed at openly.

My left wing friends are pathetic hypocrites. Or they pretend to be neutral, I don’t take sides which is tacit approval

Evans W's avatar

The real fascists are running our 3 letter agencies. The security state & permanent unelected government bureaucrats are dismantling what's left of our constitutional rights in record time. Load up on water and ammo folks.

Drew's avatar

What do you think would happen if those positions were elected offices? It would just push the "real" positions of power, the non-appointed, non-elected bureaucrats who keep things running . . . down one layer.

If you get rid of all the hired gov't workers, that means everything from teachers to cops to firefighters and more. I don't want to have to elect my garbage truck crew every X many years. Or the folks who keep my drinking water potable.

Evans W's avatar

And strangely my point seems to have been lost on you.

CindyY's avatar

Not sure garbage collector qualifies as "unelected government bureaucrat".

Feral Finster's avatar

Of course Gabbard is on The List, as is any person who is in the sights of The Eye Of Sauron, aka The National Security State.

What does anyone propose to do about it?

Unfucking believable. No one loves her country more than Tulsi. THAT is the very reason why she fights so hard for us. She loves the U.S. and dearly wants us to be better than we are.

Is that what one gets for trying to pass the “Stop Funding Terrorism Act”? Jfc…

“It all comes under the heading of the Department of Pre-Crime,”

The Orwellian genius of "pre-crime" and "prevention" programs is that they don't have to show any evidence or metric of success -- they can simply say they *prevented* crimes, an assertion that cannot be proven.

Biden and Harris have been railing about the threat to democracy from the Republican side -- even as they engage in autocratic, censoring, anti-free speech behaviors and policies. The Democratic Party is fast transforming into a party of autocracy and authoritarianism.

Mike Stone's avatar

Already happened. Done deal.

Drew's avatar

At least we're not full Philip K Dick. Yet.

Mike Stone's avatar

More importantly the assertion can't be disproven. Even if there was no crime, it would be very difficult to prove it was because of those "prevention" programs and not other things

This crap was happening when Emperor Hirohi.... err, Obama, was going after James Rosen, who was guilty of working for Fox News and committed journalism.

If you vote for a Democrat, this is what you're voting for. It's been this way for some time. It's getting worse.
