Drew - it doesn’t matter if you drink Pepsi or Coke. They all work for the same people, and the bureaucracy doesn’t change.

Well it sure as hell doesn't change if you just whine.

We got Taibbi and Shellenberger in Congress about censorship because the lowly Rs with their barely there majority convened The Weaponization Commitee.

The odds appear overwhelming because the media is suck-ass. That is not the fault of the Republican Party. The overblown bureaucracy is not the fault of the Repubs. Come on, man!

I am all in on the only hope I have left. As a former Dem. As a former elected Dem office-holder. Rs all the way now, not because I want to, but because I do not recognize my party anymore. The Dems don't represent America anymore.

One strategy for voting is simply to vote against anyone in power (e.g. all incumbents), regardless of party.

As insane as it sounds, the best thing might be electing Trump with a large enough (R) majority in Congress. He might not have a good vision for the nation, but he would have a chance of displacing the Uniparty.

It’s not insane. It’s literally the only hope we have. Trump is a moderate. Block out the losers. Think if the media actually did their job and were laughing at the stupidity of our current administration and asked hard questions. What s different place we’d be. But they have the govt matrix hose in their brains

Science, please specify what, exactly, is wrong with Trump's "vision" for the country? Because Bring home the troops, Bring home the jobs, Secure the border sounds pretty good to me..

I agree …. and stop printing money, energy independence, cut regulations for small businesses, no tax on SS or tips. Pay down the debt by selling energy. We have more than any other country.

Sorry to rain on your cynicism, S.L., but in politics as in life, there is such a thing as Better or Worse....

Expand full comment
Slightly Lucid's avatar

Ok - tell me which is better or worse.

Trump's bombastic racism made the left and the liberals furious. Attention was paid to children in cages, rapes in immigration centers, the inhumane treatment of refugees by the border control.

Biden's quiet racism, and the fact that he's a democrat and therefore beyond critique allowed him to continue Trump's racist border policies and no one paid attention.

Which is worse? Bush or Obama? Bush did obscene war crimes. He lied to the American people. He passed the Patriot act. He tortured people. Eventually, the American people turned on him, especially after Abu Graib. They marched. They turned on that unholy godforsaken war.

Obama did not revoke the Patriot Act. In fact, he gave it teeth. He didn't close Gitmo. He didn't close our black sites. What he did do is take Bush's imperial powers and double down - having weekly meetings about his extrajudicial kill lists which was expanded to do away with habeas corpus and kill Americans abroad. Liberals lunched, because Gosh - he was SO GOOD LOOKING.

What about Reagan V. Clinton. Reagan went on a spree of deregulation, however, he was opposed. He couldn't get it done. Clinton managed to finally kill off those pesky unions, destroy glass-steagel, gut media regulations. Liberals cheered as he passed Nafta! (In his defense, his dirty wars weren't quite so egregious as Reagans.)

Now, let's look at Harris V. Trump. Tell me which is better? They BOTH support genocide. They both want war (one with Russia, the other with China - both fucking insane.) If Harris wins - America will continue to support Israel down to the last dead Palestinian. Liberals will continue to worry about the hurt feelings of Jewish people (ignoring that Jewish people are at the head of the pro-palestinian campus movements.) Police will continue to set-upon students. But - Liberals won't lift a finger because to criticize her would be both racist and sexist.

Say, instead, we elect that openly fascist pig. What happens then? Well, HE sends out cops, liberals will throw a fit and start taking free speech and the consitution seriously again, for one thing. People will be OUTRAGED that he's backing a genocide on behalf of AIPAC and will show up in droves to express that outrage.

Now, I suppose if you are happy with the way things are going, Harris is 'better' for you.

As far as I am concerned - who is better and who is worse is an impossible choice to make. They both back a genocide. And that makes them both equally evil.

Of course I know Trump. I have loathed that guy and everything he stands for since he crawled out of the slime in the 80s and became America’s newest aspirational Horatio Alger.

He has always been a liar, cheat, bully, exploiter, racist, rapist, philandering, mafioso thug. The only difference between him and the rest of our political class is his lack of decorum and the age of his money.

Trump is not a good person, has never been a good person. Just because Harris is awful doesn’t make Trump good.

No. Please vote your conscience.

Lesser of two evils voting is what got us where we are, so if there are 3rd parties that appeal to you, especially on a more local level, try to talk the D- and R-diots in your life into going a different way.

No, vote for the lesser evil of the two leading candidates, as your conscience will allow. Voting for a third party candidate that has no realistic chance of winning is a vote that only aids the incumbent.

What tripe. We're voting for someone to do a job. Pick the person best equipped for the job. This partisan bs is how we got here. The lesser of 2 evils.... what a bunch of gaslighting nonsense. That stupidity is how we got here.

James Prusinowski's avatar

People are way too comfortable voting against somebody (or party) rather voting for the person who they think is best equipped for the position. A majority for Biden votes were anti Trump. You need the indie vote. DeSantis or even Haley would bag around 350 EVs against the Donk ticket. Now they have a good chance of winning (thanks to their coverage or lack of) and we're all screwed. No wonder they wanted to run against Trump.

He also never came after VISA overstays, which is half, or more, of the immigration problem.

Not serious.

Expand full comment
Mike Stone's avatar

You're delusional if you think Visa overstays are half or more money f the problem. Visa for overstayers should have their "day at n court" and be deported when appropriate. Instead (and I have seen several cases first hand) truly competent, productive, self-supporting tax payers are being forced out of the country while cartel members, drug dealers, gang members, thieves, carjackers, rapists, murders and terrorist are being welcomed in (even SECRETLY flown in) by that FUCKING ASSHOLE in the White House. Go ahead, explain to me why that ASSHOLE (and all the ASSHOLES around him) find it necessary to SECRETLY fly HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS into this country. If it's such a great thing why go to extraordinary lengths to hide what is being done from the American people? Let's cut the shit. ThecASSHOLES in this "administration" are importing millions and millions of illegals to destroy the country. They have ABSOLUTELY ZERO INTENTION of ever deporting ANY of THEM unless forced to do so. They've turned the Border Patrol into the Welcome Wagon. Come on in!!! If you don't get that or if you don't care you're hopeless.

More silly comments. The Democrats fought him every inch (or foot or mile of the way. One of the many UTTERLY STUPID arguments they made was that it was too expensive at about $5 Billion. Much better to spend a few hundred Billion $ a year giving millions of invading ILLEGAL, CRIMINAL ALIENS oceans of free stuff. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense
