All of this was made possible by the Patriot Act. Every word of that odious legislation should be repealed. Or else Trump and his allies should make use of it to go after the Democrats. One of the two must happen.

DING DING DING DING DING! We have a winner! This is why it's the epitome of foolishness to devote one's loyalty to one party or another. They'll eventually switch sides, as they have numerous times before, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Most Americans either have never known this to be true despite the overwhelming evidence for it, or are so incensed by the corruption that they've witnessed over the last 8 years, they're willing to ignore it.
I get where you're coming from, and on certain things they're better, but their efficacy as a party to make positive change in this country is still very much in doubt, for me at least.
I don't know how you define "large majorities," but the Republicans never had more than 53 senators from 2017-2021. The Democrats had a majority (235-200) in the House the final 2 years of Trump's first term. Hence the two impeachments.
Trump did have a majority in borh houses from 2016-2018, 52 Senators to be exactl, and Trump didn't raise so much as a peep about th eso-called "Patriot Act".
And you won't hear him say anything about it, that's the problem with legislation like that, it's very obviously evil and wrong to the opposition, but damned handy and a powerful tool when you are in power so no one will get rid of it, even on the way out as they may need it again.
Trump could have easily dealt with Ryan and McConnell. Tell them that he would veto any tax cut for billionaires, unless he gets what he wants. Ryan and McConnell would marry each other in a same-sex ceremony in which both wear white dresses, if that is what it takes to save a billionaire a nickel in taxes somewhere.
Any Team R holdouts in Congress? Simple. Hold a rally in that Congressman's district. Invite the holdout. He wouldn't dare refuse an invite from a sitting Team R president.
Trump then gives a speech on how you need every last vote to pass your agenda, how you are counting on. Every. Last. Vote.
That congressman will see thosuands of crazed Trump supporters (they will travel to see their hero), shouting themselves hoarse, eyes glazed over like an army of Holy Rollers about to hit the trail.

Yeah, it's just that the Republicans happen to be a lot better than the Democrats. Both are bad though.

Yeah, he should. Trump had large majorities in both houses of Congress from 2016-2020, but didn't seem to make that a priority.
For that matter, I don't hear Trump say anything about it, now.

Why didn't you simply edit your first comment to correct it?
Don't confuse him with facts.

But Paul Ryan!
Few democrats did more to hamstring Trump than Ryan.
Then there was, and is, dear old Mitch.
Don't make excuses for failure or betrayal.

He'll get the message.
Hear, hear!
