California currently has no Republicans holding statewide offices. The state is dominated by Democrats, who control the governor's office, both chambers of the state legislature, and other key statewide positions. Republicans do hold some seats in the state legislature and U.S. Congress, but they remain a minority.

I love the weather and food here in California, but we are increasingly becoming a third-world state. But my "betters" continue to lecture me that any criticism of the management of the recent fires here (which destroyed more than 10,000 homes) is both racist and misogynistic.
I'm a fifth generation Californian who left in 2019 (thank God we left before COVID) because of taxes, lack of forest and water management, ridiculous new rules about metering well water (we were on a well), and restrictive gun laws -- plus a lot of other little things that just added up. I could put up with a lot of liberal stuff because like you said -- weather, food, California is a beautiful state (plus, family.) But Democrats have a supermajority and with no checks and balances, I feared my taxes would continue to increase. Plus, I wouldn't be able to afford to put my three younger kids through college without relief. We're in Arizona now, which is fine, but we may move to Texas and get a farm.
From Chicago and now CA. In both places there are NO Republicans to blame and yet assigning blame is the game. Meanwhile, we're 75 B in debt, borrowing to pay medical debt for the undocumented, fighting the organized cartel crime which rules more than anyone cares to admit, treat outdoor camping drug addicts as if it's a housing issue, and the highest energy costs & taxes... that's just the start. Still, we vote as if we're casting a Netflix special and results don't matter...hence the exodus of the 10M that pay all the taxes of the 40M...as our state continues to prove the definition of insanity.
