Well, dear, you do need to get out more. Not that your circular definition that no decent person talks like that doesn't clearly define your mentality.
How about: No decent person judges. There. Now nobody can contradict ME.

Well, considering we have what, 40+ years of Trump being very publicly sleazy, I think it is safe to judge. And no. No decent person talks like that. Again, I've never heard anyone say shit like that, and if I did, then judging that person to be a scumbag would be 100% right, fair and just. Guess you are into this sort of behavior and have, presumably, made similar comments.
Hell, my 70 year old mother was completely non-plussed about that tape.
Said she'd hear it all her life in Corporate America.
And I'm surprised to find the perfect guy online! You win, Paul!
Although, I find it hard to believe you've never made a sexual remark out of earshot of the subject of your attention. Never joked about how nice that ass is... never told a funny but crude joke...
For two summers I worked in second shift in the factory of our family owned (started in 1933 by my great-grandfather), international manufacturing business. One night my foreman told me how he liked "small titties" -- to the daughter of the CEO. There was a time this was par for the course.
The real kick in the pants is I've had a number of women, particularly when I was younger, say (and do!) crude and sexual things that would shock polite company. Doesn't mean it's ok but it also doesn't mean it's not.
Circumstances matter....
And telling the boss's daughter how big you like breasts...well...probably isn't gonna go over well. But then again. maybe it will! Depends on the people, their familiarity and the circumstances. People are people and they've all got their own sensibilities.
Is it too much to expect in a recording from 11 years before (2005), made without his knowledge, of a candid conversation with one other person in a private vehicle? Really? You have to ask this question?
Try a little google search of Biden hot mic. And then there is his son Hunter. If you seriously think that the various residents of the White House Oval Office don't talk like that in private, I don't think you can be rescued from your self-imposed island of the fairies.
Look I am an ex-paratrooper and I am no stranger to rough language. I have never heard of anyone advocating for sexual assault before or bragging about it. I have in fact, stopped it from happening at least a couple of times.
Precisely right. I spent the first 7 years of my career doing military simulations, and worked exclusively with ex-military folks(mostly Marines, with a smattering of Army and Navy). Not a one of them, young or old, talked like this. And anyone doing so would have raised major red flags.
I'm guessing people see you as the uptight judgy type and would never dream of saying things like that in front of you. We all have friends and acquaintances who only see a severely filtered version of us.
Nope. Your guess is way off. I am a programmer, a field that is overwhelmingly male dominated, and rather notorious for lousy attitudes towards women, though this IS changing, thankfully. I am a super laid back, chill individual and beloved co-worker. I make it my business to be friends with everyone, and I love crude and stupid humor. But Trump's comments were way over the line. If I, or any of the people I know, ever heard someone saying that kind of shit, it would be supremely uncomfortable and a major turnoff. No one expects "political correctness" at all times, and most people are not that easily offended. But people who go as far as Trump are betraying a deep sense of insecurity and are trying way to hard to compensate. As a well adjusted adult, I have the self-confidence and inner peace where I don't feel a need to be an edge lord.
In the 15 years I have been in this field, the only person I ever met who talked like that was back in school. A fellow student who was absolutely an incel before that was a "thing" who was addicted to porn, especially rather degrading stuff. I know this because he was always showing it off. My friend was in a group project with this guy and it was always on in the background at his apartment (maybe he would turn it on before everyone got there? Who knows? He was screwed up in the head). Everyone thought he was a creep, and, well, he was. And you know, just like Trump, this guy came from a wealthy family (Texas instead of New York), was extremely spoiled, and immature. The difference is that this person was 19 - 20 at the time. And he grew out of it, is now a much better adjusted person, happily married, and has become a really cool and decent adult (he hit me up on LinkedIn at one point and we chatted and have since become friends).
So there you have it: your hero, Trump, is a old man, who never got past being a shitty teenager, mentally. And if you are around people who talk like this, or do so yourself, perhaps some introspection is in order.
It seems my comment may have stuck a nerve; and while the defense was perhaps a bit much i.e "I love crude and stupid humor.", I understand the desire to not be perceived as that Moral asshat. (and yes, it should sting to be taken down a bit from one's high horse. But you took it with more grace and less arrogance than most. Sincerely acknowledged.)
Yeah, Trump's an ass but we all knew it.
But he pissed off the right people and that alone was worth it.
And when half the population of America conflated an old man "being a shitty teen" (your words) with "sexual assault" (again, your words), then we end up in a Society that can no longer even argue, let alone work together to fix the shitshow that is these United States.
I say enough with the hair-on-fire aghastitude.
Let's return to the shit-calling and sleeve-rolling-up.
Thank you for the reply. I'm not sure what to make of this somewhat left handed compliment, so... thanks? I think you have, at least partially, severely misread me, though. I wasn't 'stung', nor do I care what anonymous online commenters think of me. You will notice I use my real name. And I pointed out in my previous comment that I don't talk like Trump precisely because I am deeply secure with myself, and the only person I've ever known who did, was exactly the opposite.
Trump's words were way beyond any, "She's got a great ass!" level. They were grotesque and demeaning. And, paired with his decades of deeply sleazy behavior, did it not give you any pause at all? How many girls did he molest at his pageants over the years? What all did he and his good buddies Bill Clinton and Jeff Epstein get up to, all that time? Hell, throw on the comments about his own daughter? How excusing would you be if all this was attributed to Obama?
I only frequent right wing comment sections, because I want to be challenged and I want the oppositions' strongest arguments (though I confess, I would never have expected Matt Taibbi's comment section to be only slightly above Breitbart). I have no use for having my views reinforced, nor any patience for the backslapping and mutual agreement that I see all too often online, regardless of political orientation, which I find to be cowardly and anti intellect. I do believe very strongly in introspection, and I think it would be positive if more folks partook of it. So you definitely have me pegged there.
In the spirit of that a Sagan quote above, I will absolutely admit that I was suckered by Obama. 100%. After the unmitigated darkness of W, I fell for the soaring, hopeful rhetoric. And the fact that he was from my home state of Illinois didn't hurt! I was a fool and still feel like a fool - THAT is a sting, in truth. Mr Sirota's podcast on the 2008 crisis, recommended here, should be the final nail in the coffin for Obama support by anyone who considers themselves on the side of working people.
I do have a question for you, though, if I may: You say that what you liked about Trump is that he "pissed off the right people." Was it worth it, though? Was getting a rise out of people you dislike by electing so unfit a person president worth it? I mean, when he wasn't babbling on Twitter, he governed as basically a standard Republican. As a toady to the rich and powerful. Similar to how Obama turned out, right? Hell, similar to Biden as well. Cabinet filled with Wall Street. What difference is there between Tim Geithner and Steve Mnuchin? Trump was marginally tougher on immigration (but Obama was already turning away huge numbers at the border, splitting families, children in cages, etc.). They both were drone killing like crazy. I suppose Trump had his tariffs that rich people didn't like, but what effect did they have besides just meaning we had to pay larger subsidies to big agribusiness? And he placed three lockstep servants of power on the Supreme Court, handed off by the Federalist Society, which is as corrupt establishment as they come. And cheerfully signed everything McConnell sent to him. Is Mitch fighting tirelessly for working people? We got all that, because he was stupidly crude in his speeches and on Twitter and enough people found that amusing. Man, I thought I was cynical...

Wokesters aren't much fun. :)

No true German talks like that. Yes, I have heard many such comments. Why do you think people go to strip clubs? Etc.
Yeah, you're that sort of jackass. No true Scotsman.
Is it really too much to expect the President and Commander In Chief to have more decorum than a drunk in a strip club?

Any decent human being would do the same.

Thinking about this a bit more, my friends probably already guessed how I feel about all this and might have just avoided talking with me about it.
