When the bean counters began their relentless push to force us to see more and more patients daily, I decided to refuse to be paid on “production.” Needless to say, that made me unpopular with all the MBAs and admin types. To see doctors embrace this goal and to see their patients suffer from it, was one of the very saddest things I saw with the degradation of the doctor-NP-PA/ patient relationship over time. I finally retired in exhaustion and disgust from fighting the “machine.” It’s inexorable. Blessings to you as well, Masada.
