Yes, they will do whatever it takes to suppress anything that resembles a, "populist" uprising. The horrific miscarriage of justice for J6 protestors and rioters is a great example for that.

Never, in my life, did I imagine that our government would systematically prosecute every day people who made the mistake of believing that they had a right to free speech and protest. Many of them went over the line. Most did not.

But that doesn't matter. In one example, an FBI raid found a model of the Capitol in a suspect's home. This, of course, was offered as proof that they had nefarious intentions. Civil society has all but turned a blind eye to them even on the right.

If you don't think that can happen to you, or to any movement that you agree with, I have news for you. The J6'ers are the canary in the coal mine. We are failing them and we are failing ourselves.

Equal justice under the law my ass. Fuck these authoritarian assholes and fuck anyone who passively agrees with what they are doing.

Probably splitting hairs here, but I'm thinking that "our government" systematically prosecuted "every day people" who made the mistake of believing that they had a right to violently bum rush the nation's Capitol Building and monkey wrench the constitutionally mandated presidential election process, and perhaps while they were at it, if they had the time, overthrow the whole damn U.S government.

"Many of them went over the line." Uh, ya.

Expand full comment

200 FBI plants were in the crowd stirring up trouble. Many were already in the Capitol Bldg. before people came in peacefully through open doors held by the capitol police. Jan.6 was pure theater planned long before it happened. some of the people arrested weren't even in the Capitol.

Expand full comment

Ya, ya, that's right I forgot, thanks.

That is the presiding narrative. And some of them did bum rush the Capitol doors. By all means, prosecute them. And they have. Of course, in DC, they stand no chance of getting an impartial jury so the conviction rate has been high.

Enrique Tarrio wasn't even there but they successfully prosecuted him for conspiracy. The so-called Cuban leader of the "white supremacist" Proud Boys. Sentence of 20 years I believe.

Others were stupid enough to tour the Capitol well after the violence had subsided with Capitol police standing by. But they have been classified as domestic terrorists and they have been prosecuted and convicted of nefarious crimes such as parading in the Capitol. The definition of a victimless crime.

Meanwhile Trump, one of the most incompetent leaders of our age, is called an insurrectionist because he told the crowd to go to the Capitol, fight like hell and peacefully protest the certification of an election. A process that is completely legal.

He has also been indicted with multiple felonies related to attempting to overturn elections in states that believed he won, faslifying business records for hush money payments, mishandling classified documents and for conspiracy in DC. If that isn't lawfare, I don't know what is.

There are also many civil suits pending from police officers and members of congress for incitement on J6 because he told the crowd to fight like hell. He is claiming executive privilege for his comments but his comments at that speech easily qualify as protected speech.

I don't particularly like Trump or those who were at the Capitol that day. I thought they were idiots for being there. What happened was regrettable and really stupid. But it didn't look that dissimilar from the hundreds of nation-wide riots that preceded J6 by 3-4 months.

Railroading a former president, and those who support him, is highly dubious at best. At worst, it is a clear message that they will go balls to the wall wherever they can and an attempt to chill speach, the freedom of assembly and for petitioning the government. Basically everything that Matt and Russell spoke about.

You may feel like that is justifiable. You are entitled. I think it is one of the most egregious abuses of power that I have witnessed in my lifetime. These protestors are powerless schmucks who weren't very good at getting roudy. They left their guns at home, made no attempt to conceal their identities and they didn't even set anything on fire.

They have prosecuted over 1000 people for J6 and they are still looking for them. Don't think they won't come for you or your allies in the future.

Was just making this point with a friend last night. Compare Jan. 6 with a real coup. . . say, the military juntas organized by the U.S. against "leftist" (democratically elected) regimes in developing (i.e. soon-to-be-developed by U.S. corporate interests) nations. I watched the Jan. 6 "insurrection" on TV and was amazed at how the narrative was rewritten by the DNC/MSM long after "insurrectionists" had gone home. The single fatality was a heart attack. The militants had forgotten (apparently) to bring along their guns. American history is rich in insurrections of this kind. Always the cause was just. Usually the story got rewritten, the single exception being the Boston tea party.

So it was more of a Whiskey Rebellion type of thing?

Not a bad plan. God knows that nothing else will help you at that point.

So I'm assuming you mean the unarmed with no military involved Capitol soccer riot/coup that would have lasted until the 1st SWAT team showed up?

HAHAHAHAHAHA (cough) HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA (snuffle)(snort)(cough)(spit)HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Oh man your stand up comedy must be killer.

Although your jokes might be a tad bit more believable if you toned down the MSNBC induced paranoia.

But otherwise, that was a good one.

Expand full comment

Isn't that the sort of coup attempt you'd expect from a bunch of rowdy right-wing chuds? No guns, no backup from an organized militia. No discipline within the ranks, especially the enlisted men and commissioned officers from the assorted backwoods MAGA white supremacist militias.

They were probably gaslighted by Lt. General Trump who assured them (wink wink) that he was sending in both the 7th Cavalry and 101st airborne for tactical support. Guess not.

Dude, you obviously get waaaaaaay better drugs than I get.

My friends & I did more damage to passing motor vehicles whenever the Steelers won a Super Bowl than occurred at the Capitol. One guy, an obvious stand in for the Capitol police, even pulled out 2 handguns & opened fire on us.

Great fun.

January 6th, in common everyday parlance, is known as making a political mountain out of a political mole hill.

The funniest part is how each new Trump indictment makes Trump more popular. It would be absolutely incredible if they had to shift the White Hearse to Rikers Island for 4 years since I've often thought that every US president belongs in jail.

I was referring (humorously--perhaps it was a bit too "dry" for you, next time I'll go heavy on the vermouth) to DeviantRefugee's comment:

"They left their guns at home, made no attempt to conceal their identities and they didn't even set anything on fire." Set anything on fire. As in "set anything on fire."

Appreciate, though, pointing out to the crowd that I'm perfectly capable of Reichstaggy stuff. Though, fairly certain that I wouldn't tip my hand on the Racket threads.

Jan. 6 Committee Tapes Have Disappeared, Says House Republican

The disappearance of videotapes of witness interviews conducted by the Democratic-led House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack has alarmed the chairman of the House panel that replaced it.

Probably too busy trying to plan the raid on Mar a Lago to keep track of the J6 committee tapes.

But you don't even have to buy into conspiracies about J6 to see that they are railroading a former US president, his supporters and the civil rights that we all enjoy. Setting a precedent by going after the deplorables is brilliant. Who will defend them? No one will. That much is clear.

Matt’s debate partner at Munk for starters.

Oh, of course. He was good as a debating partner. Someone with that name has been calling Norman Finklestein a psychopath for his views on Palestine, and I was hoping it was someone else.

Expand full comment

Sera, google him and start watching him on youtube. He is remarkable for his intellectual prowess and is a spellbinding speaker.

I’m always wary of spellbinding speakers because I know the dangers of being bound by spells. He reminds me of the odious Hitchins in his ability to camouflage repugnant ideas with a seductive voice and persuasive vocabulary.

He is another reason why I say that Zionism is the deepest form of anti-semitism. Netanyahu, and enablers such as Murray, are bringing shame onto the Jewish people. I fear that their shameless genocide is going to end in a tragedy even greater than the tragedy they are inflicting on the Palestinians.

Just a last word. Watch his tirade against Russell Brand, (an ally of Matt Taibbi, I would say), and see how he sets up a straw man, calling him a far right wannabe, and then pointing out that no one on the right has welcomed him.

It’s like hearing a Klan leader saying that MLK tried to join the Klan, but he looks terrible in a white hood.

What's this? Cogent analysis on the internet?! No way! MSNBC told me it's all disinformation!

But seriously, great segment there. Y'all got the nut of the problem. The evident intent is to snuff out the independence of Western thought in pursuit of tyranny for our own good. Insert CS Lewis quote here.

And if that doesn't cheer you up consider that the elites are possibly, right now, beyond the control of the voting public. They're obviously working hard on it as a first step to achieve their goals.

Ireland's one-way 'hate speech' proposed law. And if every group/gender ID but one is "protected" from "hate speech," how can that justified? Open season on everyone else? They're criminalizing any opposition to their policies. How does that pass constitutional muster, here?
