We need to bring this up, gently or strongly depending upon what is necessary, with the people we encounter.

Good advice. I do this wherever and whenever I can.
I'd recommend sandwich boards and bullhorns.
Also chalking slogans on sidewalks. If rain is not in the forecast of course!
