Or maybe we care more about what Israel is doing to civilians because we are paying for it. I don't understand why Israel can't finance its own damn wars, since it's a nation of intelligent, well-educated, productive people, who enjoy a higher standard of living than Americans do.

I agree that Hamas fights without honor, targeting civilians & hiding behind civilians. None of this excuses Israel's war crimes.
Define war crimes. Would that include Bush invading Iraq because our "intelligence" found weapons of mass destruction? Would that include Obama killing four Americans in a drone strike in Afghanistan? Would that include Biden allowing 13 of our soldiers to be killed in a failed pull out from Afghanistan because he wouldn't listen to his military leaders?
Things happen in war. There was a cease fire on October 6. Who are the war criminals if one country is abiding by the cease fire and the other is raping, murdering and kidnapping people asleep in their beds or at a music festival?
Is there no way to eliminate the threat without eliminating so many civilians? Where are all those intrepid Mossad agents I keep hearing so much about? Why can't they take out terrorists without leveling entire neighborhoods?
It's akin to the finding the needle in the haystack. Absolutely, ideally, there should be a way to separate those who want to live in peace from the terrorists. I don't have any reason to believe that the terrorists are not hiding behind those peaceful Palestinians. I'd like to believe that would never happen but there are Gazan's who say it's true. I also know there are Palestinians who work (or used to) in Israel every single day. There are bedouins, Muslims, Jews, Christians and non-religious living in Israel. I know there is one small Catholic church/parish in Gaza but beyond that, I am not familiar with the demographics of Palestine. I do know there are no Jews in Palestine.
The obvious challenge with a group of fighters not in uniform is how does one know who is who? If Hamas cared about its population, they would move them out first and fight the fight. Terrorists don't operate that way.
And maybe if all along the Palestinians/Hamas weren't making rockets with the piping materials they are provided by countries around the world to build water distribution systems, and caring for their people, those same Palestinians wouldn't be at their mercy.
Clearly living in a Republic provides a lens through which we can differentiate sanity from insanity. But that doesn't mean the US haven't committed plenty of "war crimes".

Let's start dealing in actual facts, not emotion.
Yes -- to all of your examples, with the possible exception of Afghanistan. I'm not sure that's a war crime. It could just be ineptitude.
Those responsible for committing war crimes should be held to account.
Hamas committed atrocities on Oct 7th, no question -- but that does not excuse Israeli atrocities.
How does Israel stop the next surprise attack if they don’t eliminate the threat?
