Eric Johnson is the current Republican mayor of Dallas. He spoke at the RNC to decry woke Democrats or whatever.
The city council, whose elections are non-partisan, have yet to appoint a new city manager. The city manager is also a non-partisan office and holds many of the powers associated with strong mayor governments.
They have a fairly weak mayor so it would be accurate to claim that a Republican mayor is not “in-charge” but he was elected by a majority of Dallas residents as a Republican.
These facts highlight the folly of blaming one or another party for the problems of American cities.
American cities have many problems and such finger pointing is unhelpful.
But silly me. Internet comments are not for nuanced discussions conducted by people who actually want to offer solutions to difficult problems.
