A Dem Watergate would have been an afterthought instead of a buzzword. “Ask not what your country ...” would have been portrayed as the worst jingoism. Nixon would be the president associated with the moon landing that occurred during his watch instead of Kennedy. Chappaquiddick would be the biggest political scandal of the 20th century. Etc etc. It’s gotten much worse in our time. But the poisonous spin has always been in effect.
