This Gabbard story has my full attention.

WTF is going on? Has everyone gone insane?

It does seem like it. Who needs “Chicken Little” when we have the Biden/ Harris Tag Team!

Lots of things are happening at once. The empire is declining, economic inequality is soaring, democratic accountability is non-existent, the MIC has seemingly gained complete control of our foreign policy with no oversight, surveillance powers of the state are increasing, the public is more distracted than ever, chronic disease rates are out of control, cities are in decay, a genocide is raging, nuclear war and regional wars loom over us.

Thank goodness we'll soon have Kamala to guide us through these troublesome times.

08/06/24: Thank you, Gina. Much appreciated.

News: Gene Sterling, the White House economist, has left that position to join the fall campaign of the Kamala Hair Club For Men.

[Pun. A Sy Sperling, no relation, disreputable huckster, started The Hair Club for Men (1970s). Godawful TV ads preying on men's insecurity, WOW look at all that brand new hair this stuff must really work, etc.]

I am a MN native who left after college (to work as an AMI Montessori teacher on the East Coast...I'll address Mr. Kirn's idea of Montessori teacher stereotypes later) My far left brother (don't know how that happened given the four of us were raised by a hardcore Objectivist) is very excited about the possibility of Walz running for VP. He texted me the following:

"Tim would be great. Very smart. Farmer. Great on TV. Goofy smile. Not afraid to clown around a little."

"Tim fixing is campaign car from a salvage yard"

<img src="https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GUO-AyeW4AA7O79?format=jpg&amp;name=small" alt="Image"/>

My brother is/was a extremely smart autodidoctic but he is what he is now. I follow MN news and politics closely (including, of course, the weather). Walz has been a horrible Governor, typical Blue State policy responses to Covid (check out the state purchase of a warehouse for {if I remember correctly}) 'neccessay' medical supplies. He doesn't have an original thought in his head, just a party guy. Witness his 'following the script' throughout 2020 re Covid and the destruction and ill thought out decisions he made after the murder of George Floyd.

I agree with the observations you and Walter made during this evenings YouTube show. Walz, if chosen to run in the VP spot, will be lauded as the most exciting VP pick ever chosen despite having the appearance and IQ of a porato.

I have an idea… Americans need a group, or maybe call it a “union” that can protect our civil liberties from things like this.

What should we call it? I’m drawing a blank on this.

(as an admitted leftist) I couldn’t help but observe that the ACLU pretty much did away with the veil of non-partisan impartiality at about the same time as NPR and the NYT went full-on neoliberal. There was someone a few comments up preaching American apocalypse, which I usually don’t have time for, but the idea of “civil rights for SOME” is a worrisome development.

So to get this straight: the top political opponent gets drowned in legal battles, political operatives (Navarro, Bannon) get jailed, and a former party member who switched aisle gets surveilled by the federal government. How on earth can you argue with dry eyes that Trump will be a danger to democracy? What does he have to do to top this?

Expand full comment
Barbara Delisi's avatar

Exactly why do people not see the danger here. The Democratic Party leaders in power now ( not Biden. Not kamala. They are puppets) have proven THEY are the danger to democracy.

At the point where Walter and Matt are talking about "the Democratic VP candidate in brackets" that the faithful are supposed to get all ecstatic over: I can tell you what's in those brackets:

[Not Trump/Not Vance]

That's all that's necessary these days.

I’m starting to have flashback triggers of that feeling like I am the only one in the USA that thinks we have all lost our minds. I was excited to watch Walter and Matt today. But as I listen to them, the events of having the president of the United States, just disappear. Kamala Harris become the anointed Queen of America while war is surrounding us, the financial system is exploding, and no one seems to care or do anything about it. I have lost my sense of humor and I want to see the same feelings of disgust and shock as Matt and Walter talk about it.

Agree. A lot pf people have lost their minds. What exactly would you like to do about it? How do you imagine fixing it? .

Expand full comment
onevoice's avatar

That is the main aspect of my anxiety. The feeling of it being out of my control. The people elected, media or agencies that we put in place (by voting) to hold them accountable have lost all trust. Speaking out, voting, being involved are encouraged but the roadblocks that have been put in place many times are insurmountable. I’m open to suggestions.
