Get it together, Dave! Quit making excuses. Observe Plato’s stance on physical fitness and the majesty of the human body. Don’t let it slide - otherwise your shell (body) is a prison for your mind and spirit.

Plato wrote in 300 BC. Most people then worked hard, and even the elite worked out.

When was the last time you went to the gym? It's a laugh that you point out that these women are obese, when the majority of Americans are obese, including a growing number of children.

Lots of profit in that fat.

There’s a lot of reason for obesity, but “lack of moral fiber” isn’t one of them. I suppose we’ll next hear all the characteristics associated with dark skin color, or being female, or being from a certain country…

Will power and self control over what you choose to eat and whether you exercise at all or not. Being fat is not an "illness", it's laziness. And don't give me the medical excuse, that's hardly the norm for human blobs, most of their illnesses the result of being fat- not the cause. Boils down to weak character.

Bull. My wife works at Yale hospital dealing with morbidly obese people along with normal patients. Some are legitimately victims of health problems like type 1 diabetes. Most are on welfare, slovenly and lazely and/or mentally ill. Eat themselves to death.

So your anecdote proves it all. I'd say Bull back to you. You are apparently quite comfortable with your prejudices.

Read the book Salt Sugar Fat. Maybe that will teach you what most American consumers are up against. Or maybe you secretly believe: "My mind's made up. Don't confuse me with a lot of facts."

You can't control the color of your country's chromosomes, but you can control what you shovel into your mouth.

Lot of misunderstanding of addiction with regards to food here. What bugged me the most was where it started in this string of comments, with the premise that obese people were somehow not up to speed with the rest of us. When in fact you have the government, the schools, the media, the food industry, etc actively working to entice people to eat crap, knowing physiological addiction furthers that. Not only that, some people just naturally store fat and are not necessarily "shoveling it into their mouth"; it's mostly an evolutionary thing from when we might go for days without food. It's only recently that how this all works, with the blood glucose control system, calorie sinks, the pancreas, the liver, even muscles, has been explained to some degree of understanding. We have a lot more to learn. You might benefit from reading up on this, rather than just relying on your prejudices.
