One of the Chapo Trap House people is the son of the best humor editor I ever knew. So buzz off, thank you.

love how narrow your definition of "the left" is...kinda self serving

Sorta like the "right' invoking the RINO label isn't it ?

RINO is used among the right for those on the right. It has no use for people on the left generally.

The right claiming the rino's are not really right, that was my point. A very similar situation.

" IтАЩm not sure the terms тАЬleftтАЭ and тАЬrightтАЭ serve anyone anymore."

The terms serve the elite only at this point. Divide and conquer via fear mongering and demonization.

The media is owned by the elite who allow the standards to slip not only for the revenue, but also to mislead the masses into smaller groups they can turn on one another in order to manipulate them easier.

When you're on top you have to keep everyone fighting in order to keep them from uniting in dethroning you for your corruption and or incompetence.

Dems have been dividing everyone into identity groups for decades. ItтАЩs the тАЬdivide and conquerтАЭ strategy. Then they talk about unity. What a joke!

True, but there is no alternative. That's due to the fact both funding arms of the unitparty in DC are owned by the same group. You don't remember the welfare mothers or the immigrants stealing our jobs or the Godless liberals that the Reps bandied about for all those decades ?

You have to look behind the bread and circus at who decides the policy goals. Do you believe any of the DC bandits leading either party are smart enough to pull off what has been happening over the last 40-50 years ?

I don't.

The uniparty bandits are all busy getting rich from hedge funds or Chinese businesses. They all need to go. We need term limits and the old ones need to get primaried out. McConnell, Pelosi, Romney, Schumer Waters, all need to go.

I'd be on board with that but you have to remember the way government has been restructured the billionaire funded think tanks must be separated from government and campaign finance and lobby laws changed.

You can't just change the puppets, you have to change the system and end the influence of the puppeteers or you'll just end up right back where you started.

Also: the idea that there are no leftists in the Democrat party is laughable. There are many many many Democrats (in power) who are on the social issues left. Economics are not the only way the left (or right) is defined.

There are in fact very few, and none in positions of power; you didn't see the corporate Dems annihilate the few progressives who challenged them? What do you think the Putin/Trump fiasco was all about other than primarily to create an excuse as to why the corporate Dems should remain in power so as to keep the progressives from unseating them?

The few on the national scene, "The Squad", are mostly self serving posers who meekly "yield " to corporate ghouls like Schumer and Pelosi when push comes to shove.

If you think pointless virtue signaling like wearing African scarves, taking a knee or tearing up Trump's SOTU speech while out applauding Pence when Guaido is introduced are "leftist" and are of any import at all, then have at it, but anyone on the actual left is not fooled by the continued empty posturing of the other corporate whore party in D.C. that calls itself Democratic.

People naturally group themselves into tribal identities and itтАЩs easy for political or ideological group membership to become ascendant. If it werenтАЩt words leftover from the French Revolution it would something else without much relevance to the politics.

Identity politics is, in IMO, a lot more than race or gender. People group under all sorts of banners and then itтАЩs an existential fight against anyone not under that banner. I expect itтАЩs a survival instinct for small nomadic tribes that doesnтАЩt serve us well in the present day most of the time.

While I think finding common ground is possible, incentives canтАЩt be ignored. Politicians are fallible humans. As are ideologues and activists. Might be turn out to be a good thing that earmarks are coming backтАФgiving politicians pork for this or that project can lead at least some politicians to find common ground even if only by bribery. Otherwise all they have to offer their constituents is tirades about the evils of the other side.

But we will never have ideal тАЬcommon groundтАЭ finding. Though that would be nice.

The system is no longer anything but a facade. The think tanks decide foreign and economic policy and enforce obedience via the any means possible.

It does no good to put your faith in rubber stamping useful idiots of the loot and pillage party any longer.

If you gave what you wrote to Andrew Doyle he would put it in the mouth of his character Titania McGrath - and then it would be hilarious Leftist humor. Or parody of.
