Although the Secret Service Director said “the buck stops with me” - clearly it doesn’t- it actually stops with Mayorkas and the President.

No one will be held accountable. Anyone else having flashbacks to Oliver Stone's JFK? From what we know today, it's not likely that a 20 year old with a 5 foot ladder that he put in his Hyundai, got to the top of that building with an AR and had that good of aim. As usual, the story makes no sense.

JFK was assassinated by and with the help of the CIA. This kid whose demented father HAD to own an AK rifle and apparently knew nothing about who his son was, the kid had been bullied the same way most of the white male shooters had been bullied since Columbine.

Nothing in common with 1963 except for the fact that powerful leaders tend to be poorly educated people passionately supported by really uneducated people who love ideologies and believe in false identities, while their kids grow up to turn into mentally ill shooters. Why mentally ill? The whole country believes in a lie and some young people can't take the absurdity. They snap.

Absolutely loved this for entertainment value.

Rubio looked very shifty meeting Trump - he'd almost certainly have been annointed at the RNC if Trump had not survived. Vance would never have been picked. At this point, however, we're looking at the consequences of DEI and error. Walter is completely wrong about a planned attack on both candidates.

Point 1 - Expert opinion - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9boJpqiZTQ - Point 2. If the suspects wanted someone dead on Saturday, that person would be dead. Point 3. The timeline of the keystone cops episode would be impossible to plan, rehearse, and execute.

Anybody who's done serious manual work understands why women aren't pulling boards on a green chain. Having the upper body strength to lift and carry someone of equal weight, or greater, is a baseline requirement for military, police, firefighters, or used to be. That Trump is still alive is pure luck, but Trump was put at risk by the shift to equal outcomes, rather than equal opportunities. Again, the video is worth a watch.

Regarding Biden, Walter is completely right - Dems need their own martyr, as many folks who wanted Trump dead now hope Biden drifts off slowly. Biden goes into the bunker, resigns, and hopefully survives to emerge and bless the winning Dem. If Biden doesn't make it, that works, too

Delusional - wanting Biden as your martyr. Classic.

What the Dems, (not me) do care about is rebranding, or removing, their current candidate. Apologies if I haven't made that clear. One way or the other, Biden is going to be their fallen hero who stepped up to give his life/reputation to stop Hitler from returning to power, but that can only happen once he goes, and Dems want Biden gone now - one way or the other.

Expand full comment
Indecisive decider's avatar

Sorry, I understood.... my use of the word 'your' was a poor choice of wording. I'm not sure Dems care about branding, or they're completely unable to read the room. They're running with woke (Kamala Harris) believing they can guilt people into the Harvard style word salad to excuse everything from bigotry to plagiarism to blatant incompetence. That's the modern Dem party. Cheats and bigots while accusing everyone not on their team of those things. And of course failing up is now on brand for them, too.

Thx. I've taken to turning off the sound every time when 90 percent of Dems, or their media mouthpieces come on. I have started to watch CNN clips to get a sense of their pucker factor. Looks like we've entered the breathless anticipation phase, but I suspect Biden will want to delay until he gets the COVID all-clear. If Biden understands one thing, he knows that once he passes the baton he's not going to get it back. My guess is Jill and Hunter (still) have Joe hermetically sealed off.

Joe still knows that any election can be fixed and the media will eventually have his back again when the choice is Joe or Trump - that's his hole card. We're going to wee media syncophants cast Joe as a hero fighting to his last breath irrespective of the damage he does to the world. Joe will always be plucky 'Scranton Joe' in Dem hagiographies.

Perfect.

Expand full comment
michael888's avatar

Both Warner and Schiff should set a good example for Biden and resign from politics. Even if Biden doesn't follow them out, it is still a major plus for America.

The more of Congress that resigns, the better example set for Joe Biden, generally acknowledged by State Media as the sharpest mind in the Democratic Party until the Debate.

Put yourself in Biden's place, the Golden Boy of the Establishment (nice teeth and hair, taunt skin) for most of his 50 years in DC. And finally the Presidency: "I'm the one who stopped Putin" "I rule the world" . An arrogant, smug mediocrity who had an outsized effects on (uniformly bad) legislation and foreign policy, whose "gaffes" and plagiarisms (very similar to Trump's "lies" but usually more consequential) were always dismissed as "misspeaks", as "cheap fakes", "jokes", "goofs", and covered up. Suddenly after the Debate, State Media no longer is covering for him. The questions are suddenly real. Much of State Media is no longer on his side, protecting his image/ brand. They've used him and are now in the process of discarding him. Biden must be devastated.

Would anyone be surprised by two-bullet suicide?

Say you are one of several well-placed denizens of the security state concerned that the visibly feeble President Biden will lose to Trump, who you and your compatriots believe is a potential dictator.

You turn up the volume on your Trump demonization campaign to a deafening level and keep it there in hopes that some unstable person will carry the hate rhetoric to its logical conclusion and shoot Trump.

You rely on the fact that the Secret Service has a long history of incompetence going back to at least November 1963. Your hopes are bolstered by the fact that the SS is run by a person who prioritizes diversity, maybe at the expense of competence.

You sit back and wait. If your plan succeeds you bask in the belief that you and your friends have saved democracy and kept your phony baloney jobs.

The beauty part is you cannot be tied to whatever lone nut does the dirty deed.

It never occurs to you that Trump could survive and achieve Iwo Jima level mythic status.

Oops!

I'd stop short of calling this an 'Iwo Jima' moment... a multitude of heroes involved in the raising of the Colors on Iwo Jima, many died to achieve that goal.

We must mourn the hero who died from a round fired in anger last Saturday. He – and his loved ones – deserve so much more than our mourning and prayers.

May he have not died in vain.

Expand full comment
AMWL's avatar

Well put. Though as I think about it, maybe some people will be motivated to look into the details of the flag raising atop Suribachi in the Iwo Jima campaign and be inspired by the courage and sacrifice of those Marines; and motivated to defend their liberties. In the meantime, you are so right to focus on the man who was killed on Saturday, and his family. Corey Comperatore must be mourned and remembered; and we need to support his widow and his orphan. We must work to see his death was not in vain. His wife Helen had this to say to President Trump when called: “I told him the same thing I told everyone else. He left this world a hero and God welcomed him in. He did not die in vain that day.”

Maybe, but the timing (the day before the nomination) and all of the curious coincidental security lapses make me skeptical that it was just stochastic terrorism. Like, how could Crooks have been so certain that rooftop would be available to set up his shot? Among many other mysteries. If he had been successful, Nikki Haley would be the R nom right now, that goes away if the hit takes place after the convention

When will investigators let the public know how many bullets were found in the body of Crooks and in the area where he died? Also is there an autopsy on Crooks and the Fireman? When will all the bullets fired at the grandstand be accounted for? This is becoming a JFK fiasco the longer everything takes.

Nonsense. There's plenty of info that's been made public. These were typical Fed law enforcement agents who could not assess a situation critically and act independently. In an emergency, a civil servant is allowed to act without orders but they had to wait til shots were fired cause that's how bureaucracies work. The action figures wait for orders from above unless shots are already firing. Think critically and take preventive action? What, government agents?

At the end of yet another Post article about whether our senile President will remain in office for another week or so, comes this quote from Adam “I’ve seen the Russiagate evidence with my own eyes” Schiff:

“I feel when we get to the fall, [voters are] going to be so exhausted with all the Trump drama and trauma,” Schiff said. “They are not going to want four more years of that soul-crushing division in the White House. … We should not lose sight of the fact that he could really drag their whole party.”

Trump is on day three of what by all accounts has been a positive and unifying convention.

Matt, you should look into some affordable lavalier mics for events like this to get better audio when there’s a lot of background noise. Rode has some solid stuff.

Love that you’re doing these, but you could step up the production value considerably without a considerable amount of money.

I'm sure. It's a tough, non-controlled room for anyone. I've worked stuff like that with high-end pro gear for big TV networks, and there's some stuff you just can't avoid or fix.

I'm just saying that very affordable gear exists to allow way better, more convenient, and a more mobile production for doing those kind of things on the cheap. It doesn't have to be just the stuff normally used for podcasting.

I watch all of this stuff with Taibbi and Kirn, and I don't want to sound negative. But wouldn't it be nice to occasionally see them in the same physical space (when they're in the same physical space), or to be roving and get off-the-cuff interviews with notable figures, or have a space set up to do panels with interesting guests?

Biden is not in charge. The deep state, who Mayorkas works for, and takes orders from, is behind this in some very significant way. We don’t know any of the details but the feeble smokescreen being thrown up by the SS director; and the developing obstructions from Mayorkas speak volumes. Both of these hacks clearly fear their masters; hence their beclowning themselves for all to see.
