I am something of a historian of American Left Radicalism. ( For example I’ve written on Elizabeth Gurley Flynn).I really appreciated Waters comments on Minnesotas political history.I saw Gus Hall speak. He recommended vacations in North Korea. He was of Finnish extraction. Minnesota Finns and Finns who settled in Brooklyn were bedrocks of the CPUSA.The Farmer Labor Party was a big deal. The Nonpartisan League dominated North Dakota. Milwaukee had a series of Socialist mayors.I am so tired of the Midwest is full of salt of the earth types who are somehow conservative when they aren’t. The comparison of Vance who grew up in poverty to the middle class Walz is so stupid, it’s mind boggling.Love or hate him, Vance overcame a lot more than Mr. Walz. The coastal elite types who think these two are from the same demographic , well they show you what they know!Walz is supposed to be some kind of real deal as opposed to Vance!Spare me.
There is little similarity between Vance and Walz. Vance was picked for his multi-faceted self. A kid that was able to escape poverty and getting a law degree, working in Silicon Valley, and writing a best selling book. His brief stint in the senate got him praise from the head of the Teamsters. He's married to a talented Indian American who clerked at the Supreme Court and has three bi racial kids. He's very sharp. Very smart and quick. He is not regular or ordinary. Walz is a social studies teacher aka political science geek who became a politician.
Of course, I know all too well why that would have never happened.
Good discussion, guys, and I especially liked the references to Fat Elvis. I had a friend who was especially fascinated with Fat Elvis.
BTW, did you know Elvis and Evel Kinevel both got their outfits from the same tailor? That sounds like a movie that needs to be made, i.e. they both show up at the same time, but their outfits are not ready, so they hang out for a while. Two American icons who both self destructed in 1977, just hanging out and waiting for their outfits.
Yes, the size of Walz's name is a lot smaller than Vance's name under Trump's. And yes, Walz was born and raised in Nebraska and went to Chadron State College there. He moved to Minnesota in 1996. His father was a school teacher, so not sure about "growing up on a farm."
Gov. Walz comes across as kind of guy who's glory days were 40 years ago as a 17 year old kid on his small town high school football team. "Coach Walz" carries more negative than positive connotations for men. The fatal shot was his hasty retirement from his National Guard unit, months before deployment to Iraq. Master Sergeant is essentially a "Dad" role. He effectively abandoned his kids when they needed him most.

Joy is a cover up for K’s laughter.
Waltz’s politics of joy = he will talk about how K does things with joy
That was my immediate impression.
Happy Birthday to Walter from a fellow Leo. Thanks for the laughs and deconstruction, guys!
I missed your live last night- but just finished listening today. Sorry but the ‘have a Joyous week’ sounds exactly like a Handsmaid greeting. 😂
If the Democrats wanted a grandfatherly figure on the ticket, they could have picked Bernie Sanders...

Politics of Joy? Yeah, of Joy Reid and Joy Behar...

"Matt, ya gotta understand how cults work. . . "
Hahahahahaha!
Abortion (right up to the moment of delivery) is clearly the subject on which Kamala is most passionate.
Not sure why she felt compelled to bring up voting rights & gay rights. . .
The "underdogs" comment makes me wonder about what accurate internal polling is really telling the Democrats.
She was polling within 3 points of Trump almost immediately after her coup, after years of very little evident enthusiasm for her.
Kamala's dropping her "G's" again. . .
No, Matt. The "weird" thing was a sign of their hive mind.
Democrats are morphing into the Borg, and it's frightening to watch.
Walter, good point regarding farmers vs poor white folks.
Namaste, Swami Walter!
Well done!
