I don’t view it as racist at all. No one whether you are wealthy or not should be forced to have a credit card or forced to use it. Personal choice. I also don’t think Voter ID is racist. Everyone should want to prove that they are that registered voter and only an ID does that, it says nothing about your socio economic status. And a Voter ID is free to everyone.

Sorry! In my defense, my reaction is testimony to how careful one must be with the topic of voter ID. I did take Phil’s comment literally because there are so many people who vehemently believe it is racist to “ make people prove who they are” and that people of lower socio economic status feel targeted by having to do so. The Voter ID debate has gotten me more personal insults than any other topic. And if you try to explain that allowing certain people an exemption from that requirement actually is bigoted, … duck! Thanks Phil, I was actually afraid to post my response so I’m glad my opinion is shared.
No apology needed Mrs McFarland! I just learned something new on this thread today: "Poe's Law" (I looked it up) and states that comment (online especially) that might be intended as sarcastic often get misinterpreted due to the "tone" missing... from now on I'll add the *(sarcasm) in parentheses) to avoid misinterpretation going forward.
That said - I firmly believe that anyone thinking voter IDs are racist are just insulting people of color because it outright implies they're too ignorant to obtain an ID - when there are so many IDs, permits, licenses etc required in our society already that ARENT considered racist... it's just ridiculous.
I recently tweeted that America is racist because we invented slavery. As proof, I observed that Ben Franklin, our 1st & greatest President, owned a slave AND he was an inventor.
Thanks! I learned the hard way about sarcasm and irony. Since by definition, most of the people reading a comment have no idea who I am or what I believe, they have no way to determine my tone and intent, so it's not their fault that my statement was taken the wrong way, it's mine.
I tend to put a little wink ;) emoji in the hope that people will get that, but even then....
A 2017 study by the Federal Reserve found that Black Americans are less likely than white Americans to have a credit card, with only 54% of Black Americans reporting having a credit card compared to 70% of white Americans. Additionally, the study found that Black Americans who do have credit cards tend to have lower credit limits and higher interest rates than white Americans.
Wrong! The voter ID is a solution to a non-existent problem. They even set up a commission to show how BAD the voter problem was and it eventually disbanded in failure. Any you know things are bad when a committee can´t find what it is desperate to prove! So, why the big push for voter ID. Racism is reason number one and reason number 2 is young people who move around and go to college and just can´t be bothered with any more bureaucrasy. Guess what both these groups have in common....
Voter ID is required to establish election integrity and avoid the rigged elections we've grown to despise. The lowering of standards to include "underrepresented people" is a facade to gin up votes that otherwise would not occur. Studies in the past have pointed out that lax standards lead to fraud. Part of this problem lies with dirty voter rolls. No accountability for the immense number of votes arriving during the wee hours of the morning. Fraud undermines the faith in elections and the Democrats have cornered the market in the various forms of deceit.
Wrong! The Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity.called into action by Trump and chaired by Pence with the explicit goal of finding voting fraud disbanded after only 2 meetings because they were UNABLE TO FIND any evidence of serious fraud! That you could be so wrong while sounding so authoritative is a real hoot!!!
What does having a Voter ID have to do with election fraud? Nothing. It’s a simple cost free administrative requirement for voting. Everyone should want to present identification before filling out a ballot. Most of my childhood was in Europe,so presenting various forms of documentation, identification was SOP. Now I’m not lining up to get a chip installed in my arm, but I’m more than happy to verify who I am.
It is very easy to verify who you are WITHOUT a voter ID. It is just a bureaucratic bother that one has to undergo in order to vote - which, of course, means less people will vote. And which people will be the most effected? Why, of course, the lower classes (which for many is a GOOD RESULT) Wake up, dude.
Seriously, if having to endure the bureaucratic “bother” of getting a Voter ID is enough to decline your right to vote, the don’t. And to make that assumption of the lower classes is bigoted.
Without an ID? Are you for real? The most important thing to have is EXACTLY an ID if you want to successfully fool anyone. A fake voter ID would be perfect!!!!
Inability to “find” evidence does not mean: a) evidence does not or did not exist. b) unlawful acts were not committed. c) the theory presented is demonstrably false.
After all, there is no found evidence that anthropogenic climate change has negatively impacted the human species with regard to life span or quality of life - in fact the Industrial Revolution which has supposedly caused AGW has increased lifespans and living standards all across the planet. Yet people still propose solutions that go against that evidence.
Also no evidence can be found that the covid vaccine keeps you from getting covid yet people on the left believed that as much as the right believed in voter fraud.
The perfect response crafted by a conspiracy theorist nut. Keep on searching for evidence because even if you can't find it I guarantee it's still there.
You just can't find it---not because it doesn't exist, but because you can't find it. Perhaps the evidence is in Sasquatch's fanny pack, or squirreled away in a golden lock box inside the Loch Ness Monster's secret underwater lair. If it's not there, it's surely somewhere---you just can't find it.
Imagine you drive your kids insane with your Easter egg hunt.
There is very little evidence that publius_x has a brain, but we'll give him credit for one because it's getting late and I don't have the energy for a thorough search. But it's there...if you care to find it.
In other words if evidence is inded found then you would be right and if it isn´t found you are right anyway!.So there is no real reason to look for evidence and we should take your word for it based on what again?
No, you idiot. The point is your "no evidence found" is a red herring. A straw man used in argumentation, when it benefits your argument, but not really winning any argument.
You cannot honestly believe that the circumstantial evidence (bellwether counties flipping for the first time in years, large one-sided vote dumps in the middle of the night, changes to vote collection rules, etc.) doesn't point to absolutely NO chicanery.
Trump is right that if the Republicans want to win under the new rules, they have to play fast and loose with vote harvesting and do what the Dems already do.
"No evidence is a red herring!? Really. We are talking about a Trump sponsored committee that was overseen by Pence and the WHOLE IDEA was to find EVIDENCE or the SUPPOSED voter frauds that would necessitate voter IDs! They found NONE and disbanded, as I have already pointed out. Your misuse of the "red herring" rhetorical device and coupling it with the "straw man" variation show you to be an ignorant person trying to sound smart. You obviously are not. At that I will leave you to sputter and fret the rest of the time ON YOUR OWN! Bye bye........

Pretty sure that was Phil was employing that old sarcasm.
Sure was! (guess I need to add it In parentheses)...

Then people started with AKSHULLY....
I'm literally dead.

Communication is a hard. It really is!
You have nothing to defend against :)
Thanks again.
If I was not able to be cynical and sarcastic about this endless shit show, I’d implode from anger and frustration!!
Yes, Poe's Law, which states that even most extreme irony and sarcasm will be taken literally by some, is always in effect online.

It is easier to FAKE who you are without an ID.

There isn't evidence online that feldspar is a registered Democrat. But that doesn't mean he isn't.
Have not voted in years.

I am smarter than you. The lack of evidence does not mean the lack of criminality. Ask OJ. Just cause the glove don't fit didn't mean he didn't do it.
BTW - here´s a fun article to read! https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2017/04/why-republicans-cant-find-the-big-voter-fraud-conspiracy-214972/
Speaking of "gin," go easy on the conspiracy sauce there, sailor.
