"After 2021, what happened in Loudoun was pitched as a racist revolt."

Wow, so unusual for the media to use that narrative.

Why does the MSM and the left knee jerk into “racism “ when things don’t go their way?

Perhaps if they developed policies which were helpful to the regular hard working Americans and not their elites , they might do better at the ballot box.

But these questions assume the left and MSM are honorable, objective and fair folks.

Which is a silly and false assumption.

How does Zoomin Toobin still have a job? Loudon is home to Xi Van Fleet and Sean Smith, the dad who police arrested for protesting his daughter's sexual assault by a trans student in a school bathroom. The fact that Loudon still votes majority Dem is stunning.

Your earlier writing on Loudoun was some of the most necessary reporting in years: one of the strongest confirmations of how broken and partisan, and just plain offensive, much of mainstream media has become, and ignored — willed out of existence even — by those who don't want to hear it (or are implicated by it).

Expand full comment

The MSM is dominated by Woke Gen Zers who desperately want to impose their Woke stupid ideas on the readers by bias in reporting. Real normal people are rising up against this queering of the public space.

Expand full comment

Actually, I think the MSM is populated by shameless careerists who want to maintain access to our sleazy political class & their nice paycheck so they do what they're told.

Rachel Maddow makes a huge sum of money for reading a teleprompter. Corporate America isn't paying that amount of money to "truth tellers,' they pay it for good propagandists who are adept at using their invented on air personality to sell political snake oil to the rubes.

Whatever your feelings about Chomsky may be, and mine aren't very good either, his book, Manufacturing Consent, was spot on.

Journalism, as Matt has pointed out, used to be a working class endeavor but is now the end result of a high priced college degree & is primarily the purview of our betters. Folk like that are the real core of the Democratic Party these days not socialist leftists.

If socialism was the end goal the Dems wouldn't have harpooned the great white Sanders whale twice in exchange for Neo-liberal global corporatists like Clinton & Biden.

The disgruntled black folk & trans folk & gay folk, etc., are, in my opinion, nothing more than useful idiots to be discarded at a later date.

The Israel/Palestine conflict has made that painfully obvious. TPTB loved "decolonization" when it could be applied to demonizing white Republicans but when it was aimed at Israel they discarded that shit like it was just that, a handful of shit.

Like many public intellectual scientists, Chomsky got to his position by his tremendous intellect and contributions to linguistics. I don't agree with him politically, but his science side is very good.

I also read recently, and haven't confirmed, that Howard Hunt, while in the CIA in the early sixties, conducted a far more elaborate plan to interfere with the Goldwater campaign offices. They actually had staff planted in the office that sent copies of Goldwater's speeches to LBJ before they were given. In several instances the LBJ campaign sent out positions in advance of Goldwater giving his speech.

Allegedly, when the impeachment hearings started, Sam Irvin refused to allow that story into evidence as it would have dwarfed the Watergate story.

Page 6D of today's Springfield, Illinois, newspaper, headline: "No ruling yet on Trump's eligibility." Maureen Groppe, USA Today.

"Given the justices' apparent consensus during oral arguments, it's taking longer than many people anticipated for a decision," said Notre Dame Law School Prof. blahblahblah.

But here's the money quote from the article. Colorado Secretary of State Griswold (sort of funny) "said her office has received few questions from voters about the issue. And she said voters will still be able to express their views on Trump no matter what the Supreme Court decides."

"'In reality, whether Trump is on the ballot or not,' she said, 'the American people will have all the power to save democracy and make their voices heard in the November election.'"

What a scary democracy-saving hag. A secretary of state is really just a glorified file clerk, state-wide. But don't worry, apparently whatever the Supremes rule, Secretary Democracy Savioress will have a work-around.

Loudoun Co was rural before 2000. In 20 years, Loudoun became a suburb of DC. (Clarke Co, for now, has retained some of its rural charm and farms, those that haven't been converted into wineries or breweries.)

But ride down US 29 and you'll see pro-Trump signs (some with Pence's name ripped off). That's rural. And those Virginians are completely ignored by the "Rich Men North of Richmond."

WV (Jefferson Co) is an exurb and has been growing rapidly. And the woke has rolled into this rural county. Fairness WV persuaded Charles Town (a town of 6K+) to ban conversion therapy. Jefferson Co has 4+ solar "farms" planned. The first eyesore was installed to meet the energy needs of growing Loudoun Co. Loudoun's NIMBY is IMBY and your backyard, too.

I know its important to cover all this election stuff, but really why should I care about articles like this? The political system of western liberal democracy is in serious decay. It is dysfunctional and completely corrupt. I see my moral obligation as not participating in and thereby perpetuating a corrupt system.

I think we all know that only a committed imperialist has any chance of taking power in the USA. All this is theater, fake, propaganda to get us to think the political system has any relationship to "democracy". There are many many issues of great importance, Gaza for example, which deserve far more of my attention than the details of a totally corrupt political process the outcome of which is in little doubt. The imperial establishment will install who it wants and that person will follow their orders to the letter. The important news is taking place outside the US and outside the West BRICS, SCO, ASEAN, EAEU is where the cutting edge of human advancement is and there is much positive about it. But hay, the is the USA and we don't give a damn about other civilizations in fact we hate them.

We left Loudoun County in 2003 after living there eight years. It became rich when Maryland passed an amendment to the tax code authorizing counties to add a 40% surcharge to state taxes. A short drive across the Beltway's bridge brought people and businesses to Loudoun County, which was a sleepy rural county up to then. Dulles Airport had been built there in the late sixties. considered the middle of nowhere. The county government was shaken up in the mid-90s by a good-government coalition of Democrats and Republicans. The parents' revolution was merely a continuation of that. Most people were pragmatic.

9/11 shook things up. I knew the entire cabin crew of the highjacked airliner; my wife was retired and our disabled daughter worked part-time in a vet clinic. Both volunteered at the local Red Cross, which was inundated with donations of money and computer equipment. The blue-haired elderly ladies who staffed the office were drowning. My daughter named herself Head of IT and put together a network and an Excel program to track donations.

Our neighbors were all races and colors. Nobody was particularly political. It is helpful to recognize that Loudoun abuts West Virginia; the libertarian leaning of our neighboring state didn't stop at the border. Our dentist was black, his partner was Chinese. Our pharmacist was Vietnamese, our daughter's physician was Japanese. Ane that's the background.
