OK, liberalism requires high social trust, meaning belief in institutions and I suppose most importantly a willingness to accede power to them - to abide by the rulings of those institutions.
In this regard we are on a slippery slope. People on all sides of the argument are bemoaning the breakdown of institutions.
The level of debate is super rude. There seems to be no goodwill. I guess that’s being part of a clan: Hatfields and McCoy’s. I am going to read the two articles you sent me.
Generally, I’m a Trump guy and I enjoyed him ridiculing the hypocrisies of the elite. Matt made that point, trump rallies are basically him being a tattletale, exposing the elite. OK that might be tribal but on the more simple level it’s people being told really for the first time: “ yeah these people are screwing you and here’s how they’re doing it and here’s examples of how stupid they are“. That shit is delicious. And I think trump’s clan members have legitimate concerns and complaints that the elites dismiss out of hand as being stupid or bigoted or the pathetic ramblings of uneducated Neanderthals, our embarrassing distant cousins.
I found Trump to be a necessary high colonic for that group.
OK I think I got it: feudalism manorial life lead to cousin fucking and cloistered thinking, clannish loyalty. Independent peasants such as the Freesian‘s we’re open to new ideas married outsiders and were responsible for dreaming up capitalism. Capitalism democracy and liberalism spread the wealth - that is the American experiment.
I like that, certainly a different perspective, I’m not 100% sure what to make of it, but it is certainly food for thought
I read that very interesting, once again I’m not that sure what to make of it
