things ai cant do-get up from a hot lunch, when you arrive unexpectedly, to spirit you off to the bedroom and then happily eat its lunch cold. lay a fire, then drive through a snow storm to get you and undress you in front of that fire. kiss you so that that kiss erases everyone else in that crowded hallway. start making love to you then think of something funny that reduces you to uncontrolled laughter so that you have to start all over again. nibble your neck, making it so sensitive that even the slightest move toward it makes you giggle uncontrollably and draw away. it cant impregnate you with children, thus giving you children and grandchildren to laugh and share your life with. what the fuck is wrong with people that they would fall prey to this? i am 73 and thank god that i have some real cherished experiences to look back on, what will these people have that is even worth remembering? should have defunded npr much sooner, who knew they were an existential threat

I'm pretty sure the billionaire class is responsible for the way AI has been misdeveloped, not public radio.

AI relationships are Narcissus 2.0.

It follows your prompts and guides you to fall in love with yourself. Little wonder that some people find it alluring.

The only problem with AI is that it is artificial. In everything it attempts. The AI Assistant who answers the phone has no understanding of why you are calling unless it’s on the list.

Looking to a non human to provide emotional support advice is stupid. It has no amygdala or hippocampus.

Great article! My son and his generation do seem to be safer and nicer in a lot of ways compared to any generation before….maybe all this machine stuff will incentivize humans to be better (: think coffee vs energy drinks could be another dichotomy 🙃

This is a particularly bizarro mischaracterization of Ezra Klein’s article by Matt Taibbi. Klein does seem like an insufferable know-it-all, but give him the benefit of properly describing his article. The actual article is a rather humdrum cautionary piece about the dangers and benefits of AI. The irony is that Taibbi, who whines so much about the culture wars, is a primary culprit of stoking those wars. Why?
