Narrated Version | Should we teach more knowledge and less process? Why has knowledge become a bad word? Racket catches up with K-12 expert Natalie Wexler, author of "The Knowledge Gap"
Dude. I remember learning to read when I was a little fucker in 1957. I quickly got bored with Dick & Jane books. Luckily there were plenty of books in the house, including Hardy Boys, a bunch of classics, dirty books and, probably the most influential on my head, the entire World Book Encyclopedia series, which I read cover to cover. I also read the entire Old Testament Bible, which had the same effect on me as it had on Samuel Clemens, making me want to go to heaven and wring god’s skinny neck … before I relaxed and stopped believing in anything.
It really bothers me to hear the word "Equities".. Every American has the same chance to learn. The problem today is discipline in schools today. Of course, everyone will make excuses. BUT back in the day almost everyone was poor, yet they managed to learn to make a living. Everyone stops to hear what a kid has to say. Kids used to be seen, not heard. They managed to learn because they listened. I hated school, but in the 8th grade we had a teacher that would read to us (IF we got our work done) She read the Iliad & the Odyssey. We couldn't wait to get to her class. She was great.
What's getting really annoying is how we had a society that was working great for most and we slowly moved everyone in to enjoy the benefits of what our ancestors built. Once the fringe gained more and more power in the only areas they were/are qualified to excel in, that is a government run education system and government itself, we began to twist and 'fundamentally transform' our society for the pleasure of a few while we ignore and punish the people who created the society with which the few complain about and try to ruin and conform to their own pleasure. In the end, there'll be no standards, quality, or excellence. Look at Harvard if you wonder what I mean
I love the audio versions, whether I've read the print or not.
Oh man, K-12 education. If you're a parent, you're in for it. I don't hear much in this report for parents. My husband and I come from mostly-educated families and kept our children on their toes by being present and informed. I would have said they largely taught themselves to read, and scientists may disagree.

...memories - also loved spending time at our local library and still have our World Book set with the yearly updates among all the other books...
Thanks for explaining why you're so angry. You couldn't comprehend anything you read, obviously
