This is a MAGA fantasy. Let’s be honest with readers and not throw red meat, Matt. The US / Europe relationship benefited the US handsomely— with Europe a major consumer of our culture, services and weapons and the dollar as king. Europe’s per capita GDP is roughly half of the US and our GDP crushes that of Europe. The difference is they tax their wealthy and have a robust safety net. While Trump tees up for more obscene tax cuts for the wealthy you two can only think to bellyache about how Europe stole your lunch money.

With the ex wives of US billionaires seemingly using their money to get back at their former husbands, I was tempted to say Europe is the ex-wife of the US.

We tried to make it last, but they grew apart, and the longer they grew apart the greater their need for revenge over all the times we stopped them from starting world wars 3, 4, 5 etc

Do you think it's possible to wean Israel off the American teat? I mean we have made their lives very comfortable. We back up their lies and murderous rampages on innocent civilians. Our main stream media is happy to cover it up or downplay it. I wonder how uncomfortable theywould be if we put a number limit on how many moms and babies they

could murder . No, they would not allow that. They pretty much run us. I grew up thinking

Europe was super cool and Israel was a bastion of freedom and justice. So now I'm learning

more about the European grift. What's your thoughts about stopping our unholy alliance with Israel? Anything? Also I'm not trolling , just furious that this subject gets so overlooked and in

all its dimensions is so important.

Wa, wa- NATO countries can’t pay an increase of their 2% contribution to US but when challenged NATO/EU countries with US opting out of NATOwill now put their countries on a war footing- borrowing and destroying their traditional focus on security for their citizens via fiscal sensibility. All act in lockstep looks like WEF and WHO are the players behind the scenes with the bank cartels destroying the EU without a shot fired and creating debt slaves for years to come.

By the way Matt “we” the citizens did not approve of the spending - executive privilege lead to these forever wars as life at home goes to hell.

Let's not forget, the US wanted Europe to rely on it so it could keep the cost of weapons systems down by selling dumbed down versions of them to our "allies", so it was them in fact who were the "suckers". Eventually even this wasn't enough to keep arms prices at a reasonable level.

We not only missed the opportunity to wean Europe off of the American tit, the end of the Cold War presented a great opportunity to help the struggling Russians to create a more democratic and prosperous society that could have been much more friendly to the west.

Much like the other Iron Curtain countries of the old Soviet Union have become somewhat westernized and open so the massive defense budget wouldn’t have been necessary.

FUNNY EUROPE DID NOT PUT TARIFFS ON MILITARY ITEMS.

The US spent $850 Bn in defense and had $318 Bn in arms sales globally. 2/3 of that went to NATO. Most of the aircraft, F35s and F16s are made in California. California gets a lion's share of the weapons export spending. Texas is next, they make F35s and artillery Shells. Ohio is third making M1 tanks for overseas consumption. Spending so much on NATO af=d getting about 1/3 of it back in weapons sales. Bad planning.

Tariffs will be very bad. Trump will need Biden's diaper changers when he sees what it will do to the economy. LOOK AT The Velocity of Money. It is the lowest in 60 years.(1)

(1) https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/M2V

People have no money that is why there are no transactions which is the velocity of money. The rich have it all and invest it. Even though the M2 stock is the highest it has ever been. (2)

(2) https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/M2REAL

THE RICH HAVE ALL THE MONEY.

China creates incentives for people to buy Chinese goods. Trump must put that money on the deficit. Americans get a kick in the butt again. It takes 5 yrs to build a semiconductor plant and probably 3 yrs to build a phone plant or car plant. There will be no market. People will be in Washington with pitch forks.

"In the first quarter of 2024, almost two-thirds percent of the total wealth in the United States was owned by the top 10 percent of earners. In comparison, the lowest 50 percent of earners only owned 2.5 percent of the total wealth."

https://www.statista.com/statistics/203961/wealth-distribution-for-the-us/

The Gini coefficient for household income distribution in the United States was 0.47 in 2023, indicating a level of income inequality. This figure has increased from 0.43 in 1990, showing a trend of rising income inequality over the past three decades. These figures disagree with the World bank but income inequality is interesting to look at. Then closer to 1 the more unstable the country. I included several sites below that are interesting to look at.

This is the fatal flaw in Trump's tariff strategy. It will never work, because most of the countries targeted are socialist or semi-socialist, and will revolt if the protections are lifted in their respective countries. Consider what would happen in France if the agricultural protections were lifted, for example. So, all it will do is hurt the US economy without accomplishing anything.

I'll keep pointing this out. Post war America defense and State officials wanted to keep Europe dependent because they knew that when Europe rearmed and were independent of us, they may well not be our friends. This fear was spot on. Europe is now on track to become a hostile power with authoritarian political systems. They make fun of us. They laughed at Trump (Not any more). They all look down their noses at us. Let them pay.

Would someone please tell Matt about MMT. Unfortunately the EU countries gave up economic sovereignty by giving up their individual currency. The USA did not - "Anything we can actually accomplish, we can afford." Keynes. Greenspan to Paul Ryan: "There is nothing stopping the government from writing a check and sending it to someone as long as there is something to spend the money on." For example, the reason we can't have single payer health care is a political decision not an economic decision. There is not shortage of money. Your tax dollars are just destroyed and a notation is made on a balance sheet reducing a number we call the national debt. New money is issued which changes the number on what can be thought of as just a score board. It does not matter if the score is an infinite number as long as there is something to buy with the money.
