It's not race, it's economic status. And buying alcohol and flying are not rights guaranteed by the Constitution that you no doubt claim to believe in (but actually do not).

Gun ownership is, however. Reconcile that one with your politics.

They also require people to PAY for a background check to ensure that you are a US citizen, you are of age and that you don't have a felony record.

I had to wait 5 days for my last background check to clear because of the backlog. That was two months after I went through a background check for a another purchase.

You also have to pay taxes on firearms and ammunition when you exercise your Constitutional right to bear arms.

Studies have shown that the combination of ID, background checks and taxation disproportionately affect the poor and people of color.

I could have bought another gun with all the money I spent on background checks and taxes.

Man, you in CA? I'm sorry.

It's great that the new ATF 4473 gives you a "non-binary" gender option to check while it simultaneously informs you at great length that marijuana use is still a federal crime, regardless of how the state in which you reside has voted upon this matter, and precludes the exercise of your constitutional rights.

No but Colorado is trying to emulate California in every way possible. I seriously considered selecting the non-binary option just for shits and giggles. But I had to wait for 5 weeks for Daniel Defense to fill my order. If they didn't clear it because I decided to be a smart ass, what would I do with all the green tip ammo at home?

"Colorado is trying to emulate California in every way possible."

...hopefully not trying to attain a seacoast.

I'm afraid AZ is going the same way; it's infested with Californians who can no longer afford CA. It's not, in the words of the late, great Mitch Hedberg, "the cutest infestation ever."

I take solace in knowing that our inflated housing market will help pay for tiny houses for the homeless. I love how they get to claim revenue as a percentage of home value using the output from their own estimates. Has to be one of the biggest scams in history.

"According to our estimates, your home is now worth more. Give us more money."

I just want real estate companies to stop calling me 3x+ a day trying to buy my house.

I paid cash in 2012. Apparently this was a mistake. I was trying to figure out why my credit score dipped and apparently it's because I have no mortgage.

I get this as well on occasion. When they are cold calling just to have something to sell, that would seem to indicate that there is a market imbalance. Also, good for you. I would take a lower credit score for that.

I didn't intend to sound smug (not that I think you so implied) -- I live in a rather unfashionable neighborhood in a rather unfashionable city. I just bought what I could afford to pay for out of pocket.

I credit my high-school friend Stoopid Jonny for this piece of financial advice (while he was living in a conversion van): "Man, if you actually, like, OWN a HOUSE, there is nothing They can DO to you!" With the minor exception of having to pay property taxes, he was right.

I didn't take it that way at all. If anything, I think it is brilliant. It would require tremendous fortitude to pay cash for a home. I am genuinely happy for people who are able to prosper regardless of the circumstances. And that most certainly includes you.

They say the seacoast is coming to Colorado, with or without Coloradan ambition. Thank God it's Mile High Country. (forgive the double entendre)

Here's a rich, fulsome comment from one of our suburban rambos here at TK.

Scott begins with an extended cavil about how the guv'ment is driving him to penury by slapping Stalinist-like tariffs on his bedroom arsenal. Guns AND ammo! Five-day wait for his background check!

That IS an unnecessarily long wait to find out whether or not you're a felon, or perhaps really just a Macedonian gypsy on the lam from Interpol, I agree. But one hopes our suburban rambo here made do with his slingshot and bowie knife to secure dinner while on safari in his backyard.

But after our hero has calmed himself from the specter of ATF goons snickering at his second amendment rights, he is overcome with sentimentality for the hoi polloi down at the gun club, who are, according to "studies," (them things again) most afflicted by these onerous, fascist bureaucratic incursions into our range time.

Ya, Scott, but you arm up these people on the cheap, next thing you know they'll be wantin' to vote! And I really dig the summary, fashioned in true militia man style: no background checks or taxes means more money for more guns! Mazel tov!

What's up with this racist and nationalist shit? I'm pretty sure the Roma/Romani people generally find "gypsy" offensive. Not sure what people from the Republic of North Macedonia did to you, but I guess it must have been something?

No, actually the North Macedonians did nothing to me. However, my great-grandparents found a critical mass of them to be sufficently boorish and irritating that they fled Kumanovo just prior to the outbreak of WW1.

But then my great-grandparents, though I never knew them, were also thought by some to be sufficently boorish and irritating. They eventually settled in Ft. Wayne, Indiana....my hometown, and also the unofficial hub of Macedonian culture in the U.S. And get this: In high school I did a summer internship at the Macedonian Tribune, which is still a going concern these days. Link below. Check it out.

Copyediting and writing the occasional profile of some Macedonian high-burgher who was just elected to head up the Friar's Club in Moline, Illinois, or some shit like that. I was baked for a substantial chunk of the that summer. But that's a tale for another day. Where do the days go?

In the "Fort" the Macedonian mafia, or 'donians, were big in the restaurants/food services.

"Gypsy mafia" was a favorite amongst us ferel young'ins. All in good fun. Check out the links and learn about the Offs (surname suffix), that we also called each other.

Check it out!

Well. Now that I've shared some tidbits from my life, tell me a bit about grish. And is that your given name or are you one of those American millenial Ivans who like to cosplay russian operatives in all the substack comment sections? Like you're a high-level propagandist, on assignment, all activities carefully scrutinized the Kremlin nomenclatura? Five will get you ten that you're also a Jordan Peterson fanboy. Am I right grish? Am I right? Come oonnnn...

If it's classist and not racist, then why do people such as yourself constantly drone on about how racist it is? Do you not value precise language? Or is it maybe because you're more interested in pillorying anyone that disagrees with you than you are in having a reasonable discussion in good faith? There's literally thousands of websites for people of your ilk, who seem to only want to "dunk" on each other for a short-lived endorphin spike. Can you leave this one for reasonable people, please?
