How can that possibly be legal? Wasn't it bad enough that Zelenskyy was openly campaigning in the usa?

Polls seem to show all this rebounding on the democrats. What a sick bunch

'Politico is focusing primarily on the Republicans’ reaction to the news. But is that the real story here?'

Of course it's not. They have to focus on the Republicans' reactions so they don't have to address the real substance. Their loyal readers won't even notice.

LMAO. I guess Americans didn't want those jobs so Harris had to find immigrants to do them. Some trumped-up Brit comes to my door telling me how to vote, and I'll remind them who won those wars!

Today at about 1:00 our time, you could do an election split screen. Harris was with Liz Cheney doing a "townhall" somewhere, where they were seated in front of a bunch of middle age/old people --- denouncing Trump's ten-year assault on the "decorum" of democracy.

I was channel surfing and found Trump speaking in (Asheville?) NC. When I landed, some guy was speaking and his voice was breaking, asking Trump to not let those people be forgotten. The next guy told his story; his world had been washed away and physically replaced by someone else's world that had been washed away. He asked Trump if he could say a prayer for him. I think Trump was "got," as the saying goes. Traumatized people being acknowledged.

Trump is connecting. Whether he wins --- who knows. The power to cheat is strong with the other side.

It's been learned that illegal activity works and once the courts catch up the job is already done. Then the courts will toss it on merit without consequences because it's best that society doesn't breakdown due to a protracted court battle.

It can't be "interference" if The Party invites them - then it's merely cooperation for the good of the State.

Tuned in late - Have to say that Matt and Walter bring out the best in all of us when discussing literature. Politics? Not so much, at least these days. Either volunteer, or come to grips with the fact that election security is not a real priority for many Americans.

Walter and Matt, as much as I love and admire both, are feeding each other fear biscuits the same way FOX and MSNBC bubble-heads do - amping up the anxiety about events which have yet to unfold.

That the powers that be will try to do whatever they can to influence the election is a given.

That the powers that be understand that these efforts may fail is also a given.

Therefore, the powers that be - are much more concerned about ENDING the Trump presidency post-November.

The election is effectively over. If Harris pulls it out, that's icing on the crap cake for the powers that be. The hardcore efforts to end democracy in the US will kick in after a Trump victory this November - and for that effort all options are on the table.

My own view is that November 5th will be much closer to a yawn than a nightmare. The media is already resigned to a Dem loss and has been ever since Biden melted down. Political insiders have known since 2020 - that the entire edifice of the Biden administration was a house of cards. Big stakes poker is underway right now. The only real question is whether Trump can head off/resist his enemies within government before the insiders and their allies in Congress remove the threat.

My guess is that they'll do their level best to turn every Trump initiative to shit. Mr. Smith goes to Washington - this ain't. Mountains of public money are at stake and virtually every power player in DC and state administrations can be bought, or blackmailed.

Expect more of the same, only worse, no matter who wins on November 5.

I'm certain both will be better and better friends for the experience. Matt is coming late to the realization that the problems with the press go back to Obama - and the third and fourth terms of Dick Cheney's presidency. Biden's was the fifth and Liquid Courage's may be the sixth. The real battles and knife-fighting begin after the polls close.

Be sure to cover Elon Musk's 1,000,000 a day lottery when talking about illegal election interference. He might as well just pay voters directly.

Not seeing it. This is the text of the relevant provision of the Federal criminal code:

18 U.S. Code § 597: "Whoever makes or offers to make an expenditure to any person, either to vote or withhold his vote, or to vote for or against any candidate; and Whoever solicits, accepts, or receives any such expenditure in consideration of his vote or the withholding of his vote-Shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both; and if the violation was willful, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than two years, or both."

Musk is giving $1 million each day to someone who signs his online petition, which reads: "The First and Second Amendments guarantee freedom of speech and the right to bear arms. By signing below, I am pledging my support for the First and Second Amendments." To be eligible for the $1 million, petition signers must be a registered voter and live in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania or Wisconsin.

I do not see anything in the terms and conditions that looks like a promise of payment for voting or withholding a vote. IANAL, and there may be pertinent case law that extends the covered behavior to *registering* to vote, and perhaps you could argue that the chance to win $1M is a monetary inducement to register to vote if you are not already registered. But there's nothing in the plain language of the law that screams "illegal" to me.
