This is an awesome comment. 'Don't know if the ABC whistle blower deal is true, but that night I thought it was so interesting the "moderators" had a quote from the Mayor of Springfield, Ohio at the ready to shoot into Trump, figuratively speaking, of course. Or that they had the "FBI crime statistics" ready. And the no late-term abortion "fact" at the ready.

Oh, yeah. That IS the story.

I noticed that, too. Apparently, I am the only person in my friend set of D’s, R’s and I’s that thought this was odd.

Don't know what age group you belong to, but maybe you don't know about Candy Crowley giving Hilary the questions in advance. But in this case, it was so obvious that this was all about the moderators uplifting Kamala and disparaging Trump. So. Obvious. But what they did was worse than Crowley. I'm thinking the Harris campaign gave them the questions and fact-checks to take down Trump. It was not even close to fair.

Trump did the uplifting all by himself. All it took was a little needling about his rally's crowd sizes--which was *insanely obvious bait*--and he went completely off the rails.

The man's severe narcissism and lack of impulse control is so obvious it boggles the mind. It's scary to think about what would happen if someone that easy to manipulate is put in front of actual smart autocrats, like Putin or Orban, with the power of the presidency at his fingertips.

If you think that’s scary, consider a brain dead bimbo fronting for the deep state war-mongering machine. I’ll take door number one, Bob.

I have questions. If they gave her the questions in advance (which i'm not doubting), how come she still couldn't answer them? She didn't answer the very first one, nor the one on immigration.

Because it did not matter what she said. There would be no follow up. She would get to say her deal.

Meanwhile, back at Ranch FUTrump, questions about Jan. 6. Really? And our his/him host announcing that the Mayor of Springfield, Ohio said blah, blah, blah. They were ready to quote the Mayor of Springfield, Ohio. Why?

I only watched the debate because of Racket News; I was going to sit it out. But we learned how corrupt the legacy media is. More than I imagined.

I already know how corrupt they are. Harris is and always was a moron.

I knew that Harris was besties with the head of ABC news. Another commenter the other day alerted me to the fact that Donna Brazile is employed at ABC news now.

Thanks. It was Donna? That fed it to Candy? And the beat goes on.

Donna fed a question to Hillary in '16. When she was at (I think) CNN. And got caught.

Candy was in somewhere some where. Was it the Romney debate? Was Candy the original Pres debate fair press fact-checker? Challenged Romney about an answer he gave?

Was Obama and Romney. You have it right.

Don’t understand why Trump agreed to it? He had stated how he feels about ABC. They out trumped him. I choose to believe the “ magic earring” was used.

The rumor about 'Haitian immigrants eating dogs' originated on September 5, and had been propagated online for almost a week by the time of the debate on the 10th, including being retweeted by Vance on September 9th. It's not at all outrageous to think ABC fact-checkers would ask the Mayor of Springfield about it before the debate.

Trump had already spewed the 'killing babies after their born' bit multiple times before the debate and has been lying about the crime statistics for months now, so it's not like the moderators wouldn't have seen it coming, either.

And all three plus years of Biden-Harris’s failed policies are out in the open…and the results are obvious. The moderators should have pressed her to defend her abysmal record…but what plausible defense could she launch?

Why wouldn't the moderators be prepared for the bullshit Trump's been endlessly babbling about for the last few weeks, few months, few years---as long as he's been alive? How could any sentient person NOT be prepared for the flatulent fog of Trump's oratory? He regurgitates the same crazed nonsense over and over and over...A child 8-years old could have easily moderated the thing.

And yet he's infinitely less dangerous to our republic

Minsky's avatar

Um, no.

The dude already tried to throw out the result of an election and, after failing to do so via the courts, incited a riot at the Capitol and cooked up a scheme involving fake electors (with no votes authorizing them) to try and overturn it through extralegal means. Then he lied about it, and didn't even attend the inauguration of the adminsitration that succeeded him, like every president has since the Civil War.

Nothing Harris has done or promises to do remotely endangers the republic to the same degree those actions do.

It's hard to imagine a greater threat to the republic than inviting 10,000,000 more migrants to cross the border when we're already $34,000,000,000,000 in debt. These people couldn't care less about our republic. Trump had every reason to doubt the results in 2020 given that the opposition spent 3 years framing him with Russiagate, plus two impeachments.

Expand full comment
Minsky's avatar

He has every right to doubt them--he doesn't have a right to try to illegally overturn it and incite mobs into riots at the capitol as part of the effort, especially after he's had his day in court and the courts have unanimously said "Sorry, but given the facts you've presented...it's still clear you lost".

And given that illegal immigration rose under him until the pandemic drove unemployment up to 20%, you're not exactly bolstering your case for him here...

We were talking about "threats to the republic." Can you explain why Biden/Harris facilitated the entry into our country of 10,000,000 people, many of unknown origin? Maybe because they are only pretending to work for America. Please wake up.

Minsky's avatar

In what universe is the attempt to illegally throw out a free and fair election, and the man who attempted to do so, *not* a "threat to the republic"? Particularly when said individual is the presidential nominee of one of the major parties and will not commit to accepting the outcome of the next election?

William Taylor's avatar

"Free and Fair." Did you first hear that from Joy Reid or Anderson Cooper?

Trump tried, failed, and walked away. It was over in a few weeks. The Republic was in no danger. On the other hand, we have a party that is pushing to end the American experiment by changing the Constitution, opening our borders, and leaving the American people behind in favor of the cultural wrecking ball that is globalism.

Yes, it would be easy to predict Trump's claims and to prepare rebuttals in advance, but the moderators were clearly biased, and they even used falsehoods in their rebuttals.

For example, Tim Walz signed laws (145.409 and SF 2995) that allow abortions without restrictions, therefore at any stage of pregnancy for any reason. He also repealed the requirement that if an abortion of a potentially viable fetus results in a live birth, the medical personnel must "take all reasonable measures ... to preserve the life and health of the live born person". Before Walz signed that law, a baby born in that scenario was fully recognized as a human person under the law; now the baby can simply be left to die.

I don’t know why media and others are so ready to dismiss these claims about animals and birds being eaten. I don’t believe this is happening frequently, as a new norm, but it’s certainly plausible that it’s happened on occasion. It’s basically another form of foraging, which is something people do whether they should or not.

But the real issue is how completely unfair it is to bring in a new population and effectively discarding the existing people. That is what we should be talking about.

Yeah I saw pictures on some far-right facebook group of aliens and UFOs snatching up residents of Davenport, Iowa and replacing them with skin-suit cyborgs. Trump was among them. So that's verified too.
