yo I just wanted to say thanks for last week's show, and how meaningful it was to hear both Matt and Walter talk about the isolation and alienation they've felt in the last few years. My circle of friends and acquaintances has gotten dramatically smaller because of this shift in perspective, this New Binary, and it's been tough-going; it's even hard to be out in the places I used to frequent, because of what I'm expected to say or agree with (even dating has become very difficult). Hearing you both say you've also struggled personally meant a whole lot. I don't feel nearly as lonely as I did last week.
We haven't lost anybody as long as we hold them close in our hearts and prayers. Others are entitled to their beliefs, even if they are currently unable to accept ours. I know what you're saying, but we're all doing our best in a world custom crafted to bring out the worst in everyone. Our friends and family are as much victims of this division as we are.
Be ready to greet those we love and respect with smiles and hugs, coz we really do need one another. I just let them rant, if they must, and do my best to remain polite and non-confrontational.
Be sure - these people are being very clear - they are not emotionally ready to listen, to we're doing them a profound injury to expect more from them than they can currently offer.
Forgive and forget those we love. As for the Terry Morans of the world - there's a special place.
I have sent our boys--and everyone--more sincere, supportive observations since guessing I'd been escalating my passive-aggressive comments on media--in the name of keen insights (oof). Better for my soul, too.
You guys should organize a book club/nerd meetup in NYC every once in a while. I’d give you all my ill-gotten gains. I studied English in the late 2010s, so I had precious few profs who lectured as beautifully as you two.
Agreed. You can see all the shit Matt's getting on X for not providing the whining platform for the "I care more than you do" ME performance artists. Fuck em.
Book discussions are far more useful and productive than generating a billionty comments from folks who wouldn't give up a fingernail worth of the stuff we stole from the natives and fuck-off asap back to where we came from. Expect to learn nothing new from the ME moaning, but "group hugs."
I have to say that Walter's description of Winston Smith's genuine love of the "all-knowing and all-powerful" big brother instantly reminded me of Walter's own relationship with Trump and his administration.
It really clicked once I heard him describe the attack on Iran as something the United States did not take part in, seemingly painting Trump in an ultimately innocent and blameless light. As if he is an innocent bystander that had simply been watching at worst, or at best, a strong leader who is letting Israel do what it needs to do without getting in the way.
It's the same way Winston would look at the party who got them into another war. Blind trust and faith in surface level statements when Trump makes them even when they contradict the last statement out of his mouth, total confidence in his eminent decision making skills, and a conviction that what he is doing he is doing because he has the best interests of the nation at heart.
Very fitting end for the 1984 saga. A real life demonstration of the book for the audience in real time. Looking forward to the Thursday show where, if it is discussed, Walter will explain to the audience how any war with Iran should absolutely NOT be blamed on Trump.
Whatever rationalization, I know the predictable conclusion. I imagine it will consist of pleading with the audience to understand that Trump somehow isn't in control or has been "outmaneuvered" by the "deep state" that he appointed himself. That this all goes back to Obama and Biden and everybody shares the blame equally. That Trump has no personal responsibility or agency and shouldn't be particularly blamed if we end up in direct war with Iran, that it was all an inevitable trend that unfortunately ended up in Trump's lap and he was simply unable to do anything else.
You Trump haters let your hate for Trump obscure your view of everything.
I'm no Trump cultist, & I am furious with him for dragging us into yet another regime change war on behalf of Israel, but to equate Walter's attitude toward Trump with Winston's love for Big Brother is just asinine.
No, it isn’t. Walter has repeatedly signaled faith in Trump and constantly takes Trump at his word. Like when he said we were not involved in attacking Iran. Why does he take these things for granted to be true if not for a deep trust of Trump? We all know Walter supported Trump for President, loves to brag about his “insider” connections to the Trump admin, he thinks he is on the team.
As the situation escalates I will be watching his reactions and commentary and we can continue to debate whether or not it represents a skeptical critical thinker or a devoted party member.
Also I don’t hate Trump, no more than other U.S. presidents really, and can support a small number of his administrations acts. The fact that I have harsh criticisms of his failures, lies, or hypocrisy and call out his propagandists in media doesn’t mean I hate him. I don’t have emotional attachment to politicians like that.
In fact I personally hate AOC much more as a person and political actor, but she is less relevant than Trump. She isn’t the one launching a war with Iran, continuing nuclear escalation with Russia, and promising tax cuts to the rich while wanting to cut Medicaid.
Do you really think that everybody who opposes Trump and this admin has to “hate” it or him? Come on.
No, because I am strongly opposed to many things Trump's doing, and I don't hate him.
Do you think any Dems will stand against war with Iran? I know there are a handful of Republican Congress Critters who have spoken out against it. I'm not even sure it matters anymore, though. It's like they all ignore their constituents, in favor of their donors. Congress keeps voting to fund the wars, and the president makes noises about ending them -- but never makes any move to cut off funding -- and the wars just keep on rolling. If we cut off funding to Ukraine, they'd be more willing to negotiate. If we cut off funding to Israel -- ah, but that will never happen. Israel owns our government.
With Trump's embrace of the pervasive surveillance of Palantir, and his decision to take us to war with Iran, we might as well change our name to "Oceania." We're circling the drain.
Far left progressives like AOC and Ro Khanna will oppose, I doubt anybody in the Senate will other than Sanders (while he blames it all on Netanyahu exclusively) so in the end I don't think congressional pushback will occur. Not in a meaningful way.
If we attack Iran officially it will be done via executive order without approval from Congress I agree.
I do blame Trump personally for this. He and his team are fully in control and working with Israel happily. It feels this was inevitable but in reality Israel was waiting for the right set of context for the perfect opportunity and they found that with Trump in his second term. It is possible Democrats would be worse, if Harris was in office would we already be bombing Iran? Hard to say in my opinion but I doubt it would be dramatically better. At best, a holding pattern until somebody like Trump came in.
In any case I feel the U.S. government is almost entirely unresponsive to the will of the population, by design, and that it would take riots and assassinations to actually prevent an all out war with Iran if that is what our "leadership" chooses.
And I don't expect an invasion force if we go to war. We will simply bomb everything, but then Iran may take out all the oil platforms in the region and the world economy tanks displacing millions and throwing the world into chaos.
I fear that may say more about you than Walter. Good rant, however.
Might be better to try to identify a period of peace in the region before one starts the when did this war start and who started it road. The rulers of the ME waged war against their own people for centuries, slavery - a thing; harems - a thing; eunuchs and castration - a thing, galley slaves - a thing. Four wives, no gays, buying and selling people of all ages, while worshiping "the book" - that's the tradition - with the Christians no better. Good luck finding that peace and equal rights thing you figure is missing from today"s ME!
Should be interesting to see how the insane clown journalist makes the attack on Iran two days before peace talks a lefty problem. Will Walter claim antisemitism is the real problem? Did anyone’s head explode when in the middle of the protests Trump claimed that hotels and farmers maybe kinda needed those pesky immigrants?
Walter on Thursday will be complaining about antisemitism, Trump being "outmaneuvered" by the Deep State, and telling everybody how Trump is personally blameless even if it is his administration specifically that is getting us into a war with Iran.
He is predictable and if he says anything that actually indicates that Walter believes Trump has personal agency and actually is responsible for these events I will come back and apologize and say I was wrong.
America has been one big lie for my entire lifetime. That's why, I believe, we're in this mess. America has been a facade, a front, hiding all the truths behind every closed door. The start of the internet age kicked-off the fracturing of the facade, and it took a couple of decades to actually see through the cracks. That's not surprising if you consider the complexity of the lies, how long we've all been looking the other way, and the size of the country, but here we are.
Remember the movie Liar Liar? If I could snap my fingers and stop every American from lying, this country would cease to function. I have no doubt that it would descend into an abyss of chaos, suffering, hatred, and eventual mass slaughter. Lies run this country and everyone knows it, so it's down to two sides: those who benefit from the lies, and those harmed by the lies. That's the stuff revolution is made of.
I play poker so I kind of benefit by lying, and I’m harmed to buy it. I look around, almost everybody I know has been harmed. Oh well, we all shared in the suffering, and the joy, and the ups and the downs. Even if it was all a lie, there was some fun. I really liked Matt
Yeah, I did okay living the lies, but it wasn't easy for me. I changed jobs and moved around a lot. I could only be the liar for so long, before my stupid brutal truthfulness wrecked it. The statement I uttered too many times to count was, "If I didn't have a conscience, I'd be a gazillionaire!" Instead, I'm a poor old recluse looking forward to death. I'm a walking example of why Winston Smith came to love Big Brother. I wish I could've done what he did... sans his stay at the Ministry of Love, that is.
EDIT: I've never been diagnosed, but my inability to lie (at least in any remotely believable way), along with a few other symptoms, have led me to believe that I have autistic spectrum disorder. So, I'm not whining... well, I mean I'm not just whining.
How badly do you want to know? Because it’s super complicated. And a couple sentences won’t capture the essence of the relationship between immigration, offshoring, inflation, interest rates, the effects of tariffs on supply chains. All of that is smothered in a politics and a media that has a vested interest in making sure that Johnny lunch pail can’t connect any of it.
But honest to god, it blows my mind that no one can connect those dots. And in my opinion we just went through this in 2022. Supply chains got choked, immigration was stifled by Trump part one and Covid crushed immigration. Unemployment fell through the floor and inflation was at 9%. Now, we seem to be trying to replicate those conditions intentionally.
Offshoring is bad? If we hadn’t done that for the last two decades we would almost certainly had to recruit immigrants. Immigrants steal your job? No. Sorry. Your boss stiffed you and used immigrants as the fall guy. And people were glad to punch down because telling your boss that he’s a greedy prick requires a collective effort. Because if you stand alone you are going to get crucified.
There’s really nothing worse for citizens or politicians than runaway inflation. But we seem to be hell bent on causing it.
Well there are immigrants & there are illegal aliens, aka future Democrat constituents and illegal voters. The latter make it hard for the former to get in(who are the ones we want).
There is no inflation thanks to Trump’s overall policies (energy, etc.) Tariffs look like they are largely be negotiated away as a tool to even out bilateral trade relations that have been stuck in post WWII mode for 80 years.
How many people entered the country illegally vs legally? Trump is already trying to piss backwards on immigrants doing agricultural work. Because 40% of that work is done by undocumented immigrants. I would assume that it’s the most important yet menial work. That would suggest, that in the reddest states, employers were not part of the problem, they were the entire fuckin problem. And now they want a carve out for their special brand of exploitation. Even Biden turned off immigration like a water faucet when it was politically convenient. It’s the illegal/undocumented part that makes them most appealing to predators that hire them and scum like you that pretend not to know any better. Maybe you’re just very stupid. But I bet you’re merely an accessory. Salads are going to get really expensive really soon.
Trump’s tariffs are only going to exacerbate the problem, just like his big beautiful blowjob that adds to the deficit. Sucking Netanyahu off is going to create a bunch of retarded military spending in the Middle East that caused a good chunk of the debt in the first place.
There are no good guys. Just evil guys that dupe stupid guys into cheering red or blue. Good news. You’re probably not evil
At this point it’s not really too difficult to predict ignoring actual topics of interest in favor of a retarded conspiracy about mangione. Or Minnesota gunman. The insane clown journalist enjoys mocking MSM. I enjoy mocking whatever this show has devolved into.
I am curious to see what Matt has been working on in MN. There are so many possibilities: Ilhan Omar, MN AG Keith Ellison, Feeding Our Future, federal investigations of daycare and autism care scams, Tim Walz, recent trafficking busts, child transgender medicine, and now, Boelter. I'm intrigued.
Are we seriously going to try develop a psychological profile of this dude based on that dog’s breakfast of clips and snippets from this guy’s life? There’s nothing here that points toward any kind of pattern, mindset, motivation … it’s just a jumble of random facts and detritus from this guy’s life.
But concede you guys are right about one thing. This story is fucking weird.
I am thankful for all the insights that Matt & Walter have given me. Looking forward to much more as I have always felt like (been) a mole on the UWS of Manhattan. So so many events and so so little time and it is flying by. So Iran wants a deal now that they are about to be wiped off the face of the Earth and the UK, EU etc is amenable towards Israel because Zelensky has admitted that Iran is one of his problems too.
Ha! Same here. But what I failed to articulate — we are bonded to our phones, our machines. We are literally, out of touch with our fellow humans. Remember during Covid when they masked us all, even toddlers? Yeah, a baby doesn’t need to see her caregiver smile.
WTF is going on in the fat guy's house? Why does the screen door just have two pieces remaining? Why is somebody in the window removing the window and the frame just falls apart and he tosses it outside? Why is that guy grinning with reporters outside after a double murder? Like he's just a contractor going about his work? Why is the fat guy just aimlessly pretending to sweep the front steps?
The fact the suspect lived with roommates doesn't strike me as odd -- the couple reports I read that he just rented a room there and stayed there a couple nights a week, that checks out if he was often there on business, although I don't know the distances involved to know whether this sounds like a legit pied-et-terre.
Seriously, go back and look at that partial front door. Is this a set for an Ibsen play?
Everyone seems to now communicate in a way that I used to say was an issue with women - they read between the lines. If you don't know what that means, here's an example: you come home from work on a Friday just totally beat. You stop on the way home and pick up some munchies, planning on cozying up with your other on the sofa to watch a movie. But your other's comment when they find out the plan is, "So, you don't want to be seen in public with me?!?"
There are so many comments in here about things that Walter said, however they're NOT what Walter said. They're someone reading between the lines and arriving at some distant interpretation that fits their beliefs.
It's like old line, "There's 3 sides to every story. There's his side, there's her side, and then there's the truth."
Walter speaks in riddles and reading between the lines is quite literally the only way to attempt to understand him in a large portion of circumstances.
Walter is more of a storyteller, where Matt is a reporter. I sometimes wonder if I would tune in and watch either one of them alone, and I'm sure I would NOT tune in if there were 2 like Walter or 2 like Matt.
I already get enough analysis about Israel/Iran from multiple other sources -- Due Dissidence, The Duran, Glenn Diesen, Judge Nap. It's nice to hear you guys talk about other things. Don't get me wrong, I'm deeply concerned about the Iran situation (as well as Ukraine), but it's a needed break to hear other issues discussed.
yo I just wanted to say thanks for last week's show, and how meaningful it was to hear both Matt and Walter talk about the isolation and alienation they've felt in the last few years.
I too feel this way and have lost very close family and friends.

Thanks for last week. The last half of the show was really beautiful snd personal. Thanks for sharing.
You guys should organize a book club/nerd meetup in NYC every once in a while. I’d give you all my ill-gotten gains. I studied English in the late 2010s, so I had precious few profs who lectured as beautifully as you two.

Fucking off back to where we came from is a major theme in Catch-22, btw. Worth noting! Firesign Theatre: https://youtu.be/2I2PjLna4C0?si=PZ8IBTgxD8juVVS7
Love Firesign Theater!
Thanks for the link.

That is absurd.
You Trump haters let your hate for Trump obscure your view of everything.

Probably the most accurate prediction yet
Should be interesting to see how the insane clown journalist makes the attack on Iran two days before peace talks a lefty problem. Will Walter claim antisemitism is the real problem? I am confident I will not be doing so.
And are you also able to predict which hat Matt will be wearing, and what kind of coffee cup he'll be holding?
How about predicting the state of Walter's hair, and what kind of vape he'll be using?
You sound ridiculous.
Matt wears a variety of hats but Walter has only one reaction when it comes to trump, running defense.
"Wah wah wah!"
It’s true though, find me an example of Walter doing something other than defending Trump when any topic regarding him comes up.
Seriously, one or two examples. Can you? I can’t.
maybe they kinda do? What do you think?
Maybe we should stop being angry at politicians for telling people what they wanna hear?
Or, start issuing a consequence for being lied to.
America has been one big lie for my entire lifetime. That's why, I believe, we're in this mess. America has been a facade, a front, hiding all the truths behind every closed door. There’s really nothing worse for citizens or politicians than runaway inflation. But we seem to be hell bent on causing it.
Inflation shot up because of all the money printing. It more or less tracked M2 money supply:
https://www.stlouisfed.org/on-the-economy/2023/may/the-rise-and-fall-of-m2
Go figure, the MMT crowd was full of sh*t.

Hahaha, that last line gave me a good chuckle, thanks
Whatever floats your boat, dude!
Thank god I have your permission.

Wow, just wow, what an accurate handle you seem to have on everything.
I wish.
Soccer balls stretching to the moon ....... how the heck did that guy go from that to wanting to assassinate people?
We live in a universe of compulsive + narcissism + tactileless (may not be a word) existence. What can go wrong.
Tactileless “ without tact” Makes sense to me. Of course, lots makes sense to me that other people find nonsensical
Ha!
That guy cracked me up. If someone makes a movie about this, Philip Seymour Hoffman could play him if he had not died on us.
Agreed. What is up with the screen door? And the dude in the left background? It’s like some Amos and Andy skit
That's what I was wondering!
Tucker did an interview with Jeffrey Sachs that has lots of background on US history of involvement both Ukraine and Iran

Reading “between the lines” of Walter Word Salad (TM) is complete contradiction (CC TM)
I get your point, but I still think people do it. It works the same as most news reporting today - bend the story around a desired outcome.
Your analogy of women’s thought processes is spot on. They often defy logic.
Can confirm -- and I am one.
Room 222, Mr. Dixon, Walt Whitman High School, LA California. Somewhat tolerably woke (if that's possible) for its time.
That's it!
I remember that show!
Love the fact that the school was named after Whitman.
I got that right away! 1970s high school.
At this point it would not surprise me if Trump took a shit on Walter’s head, and Walter congratulated him for it. So freaking clueless
The left has not played the Gun Control card since the before the assassination attempts on Donald Trump, that I remember…
