yo I just wanted to say thanks for last week's show, and how meaningful it was to hear both Matt and Walter talk about the isolation and alienation they've felt in the last few years. My circle of friends and acquaintances has gotten dramatically smaller because of this shift in perspective, this New Binary, and it's been tough-going; it's even hard to be out in the places I used to frequent, because of what I'm expected to say or agree with (even dating has become very difficult). Hearing you both say you've also struggled personally meant a whole lot. I don't feel nearly as lonely as I did last week.
I have sent our boys--and everyone--more sincere, supportive observations since guessing I'd been escalating my passive-aggressive comments on media--in the name of keen insights (oof). Better for my soul, too.
You guys should organize a book club/nerd meetup in NYC every once in a while. I’d give you all my ill-gotten gains. I studied English in the late 2010s, so I had precious few profs who lectured as beautifully as you two.
Really looking forward to Thursday's show, though Walter should probably do a basic test before opening his mouth about Israel, and that is: What would you say about it if Zelensky had just done the same thing?
His "this seems to be a 'decapitation strike' aimed at attacking their nuclear program" OH OK. So that's what we call when a country whose military we fund completely with American tax dollars, defend completely with our tax dollars, decides to assassinate both military and civilian targets, in their residential homes at 3am, killing hundreds of civilians in those apartments to prevent a nuke they don't have-but now certainly will get? This on the eve of Trump's next round of negotiations, either to trick the Iranians or to cuck Trump.
Oh and the attacking country, they are already HAVE nukes, but secretly 'off the record' so they don't have to be part of any of the rules being applied to Iran. You do realize the official policy of the US is that Israel doesn't REALLY have the couple hundred nukes they possess? Because if we acknowledged it, they would be automatically violating the treaties every other nuclear armed country is a part of... So they lie about their own nuclear program, but get to do wars of aggression on the rest of the world to decide how THEY are allowed to arm.
Gabbard just testified a couple of months ago that Iran isn't building nukes. Israel has been saying they will get them 'next month' for 30freaking years. https://x.com/ggreenwald/status/1934636415523987670
I have to say that Walter's description of Winston Smith's genuine love of the "all-knowing and all-powerful" big brother instantly reminded me of Walter's own relationship with Trump and his administration.
It really clicked once I heard him describe the attack on Iran as something the United States did not take part in, seemingly painting Trump in an ultimately innocent and blameless light. As if he is an innocent bystander that had simply been watching at worst, or at best, a strong leader who is letting Israel do what it needs to do without getting in the way.
It's the same way Winston would look at the party who got them into another war. Blind trust and faith in surface level statements when Trump makes them even when they contradict the last statement out of his mouth, total confidence in his eminent decision making skills, and a conviction that what he is doing he is doing because he has the best interests of the nation at heart.
Very fitting end for the 1984 saga. A real life demonstration of the book for the audience in real time. Looking forward to the Thursday show where, if it is discussed, Walter will explain to the audience how any war with Iran should absolutely NOT be blamed on Trump.
Whatever rationalization, I know the predictable conclusion. I imagine it will consist of pleading with the audience to understand that Trump somehow isn't in control or has been "outmaneuvered" by the "deep state" that he appointed himself. That this all goes back to Obama and Biden and everybody shares the blame equally. That Trump has no personal responsibility or agency and shouldn't be particularly blamed if we end up in direct war with Iran, that it was all an inevitable trend that unfortunately ended up in Trump's lap and he was simply unable to do anything else.
Should be interesting to see how the insane clown journalist makes the attack on Iran two days before peace talks a lefty problem. Will Walter claim antisemitism is the real problem? Did anyone’s head explode when in the middle of the protests Trump claimed that hotels and farmers maybe kinda needed those pesky immigrants?
Walter on Thursday will be complaining about antisemitism, Trump being "outmaneuvered" by the Deep State, and telling everybody how Trump is personally blameless even if it is his administration specifically that is getting us into a war with Iran.
He is predictable and if he says anything that actually indicates that Walter believes Trump has personal agency and actually is responsible for these events I will come back and apologize and say I was wrong.
How badly do you want to know? Because it’s super complicated. And a couple sentences won’t capture the essence of the relationship between immigration, offshoring, inflation, interest rates, the effects of tariffs on supply chains. All of that is smothered in a politics and a media that has a vested interest in making sure that Johnny lunch pail can’t connect any of it.
But honest to god, it blows my mind that no one can connect those dots. And in my opinion we just went through this in 2022. Supply chains got choked, immigration was stifled by Trump part one and Covid crushed immigration. Unemployment fell through the floor and inflation was at 9%. Now, we seem to be trying to replicate those conditions intentionally.
Offshoring is bad? If we hadn’t done that for the last two decades we would almost certainly had to recruit immigrants. Immigrants steal your job? No. Sorry. Your boss stiffed you and used immigrants as the fall guy. And people were glad to punch down because telling your boss that he’s a greedy prick requires a collective effort. Because if you stand alone you are going to get crucified.
There’s really nothing worse for citizens or politicians than runaway inflation. But we seem to be hell bent on causing it.
Well there are immigrants & there are illegal aliens, aka future Democrat constituents and illegal voters. The latter make it hard for the former to get in(who are the ones we want).
There is no inflation thanks to Trump’s overall policies (energy, etc.) Tariffs look like they are largely be negotiated away as a tool to even out bilateral trade relations that have been stuck in post WWII mode for 80 years.
America has been one big lie for my entire lifetime. That's why, I believe, we're in this mess. America has been a facade, a front, hiding all the truths behind every closed door. The start of the internet age kicked-off the fracturing of the facade, and it took a couple of decades to actually see through the cracks. That's not surprising if you consider the complexity of the lies, how long we've all been looking the other way, and the size of the country, but here we are.
Remember the movie Liar Liar? If I could snap my fingers and stop every American from lying, this country would cease to function. I have no doubt that it would descend into an abyss of chaos, suffering, hatred, and eventual mass slaughter. Lies run this country and everyone knows it, so it's down to two sides: those who benefit from the lies, and those harmed by the lies. That's the stuff revolution is made of.
I play poker so I kind of benefit by lying, and I’m harmed to buy it. I look around, almost everybody I know has been harmed. Oh well, we all shared in the suffering, and the joy, and the ups and the downs. Even if it was all a lie, there was some fun. I really liked Matt
Yeah, I did okay living the lies, but it wasn't easy for me. I changed jobs and moved around a lot. I could only be the liar for so long, before my stupid brutal truthfulness wrecked it. The statement I uttered too many times to count was, "If I didn't have a conscience, I'd be a gazillionaire!" Instead, I'm a poor old recluse looking forward to death. I'm a walking example of why Winston Smith came to love Big Brother. I wish I could've done what he did... sans his stay at the Ministry of Love, that is.
EDIT: I've never been diagnosed, but my inability to lie (at least in any remotely believable way), along with a few other symptoms, have led me to believe that I have autistic spectrum disorder. So, I'm not whining... well, I mean I'm not just whining.
I am thankful for all the insights that Matt & Walter have given me. Looking forward to much more as I have always felt like (been) a mole on the UWS of Manhattan. So so many events and so so little time and it is flying by. So Iran wants a deal now that they are about to be wiped off the face of the Earth and the UK, EU etc is amenable towards Israel because Zelensky has admitted that Iran is one of his problems too.
Walter’s musing (on any number of things) is sometimes amusing. On today’s show his musing about the alleged assassin in Minnesota were worthless. Worthless.
Matt’s cynical humour was (once upon a time) attractive. His cynical tone and treatment of this story was sickening. They are both good examples of what living in Goodle USA will do to your brain over time. More critically; your soul.
Wise Walter, please give us your wisdom of narrative control and conspiracy analysis to answer - Does Israel have the motive and means to stage a false flag attack on U.S. personnel and assets in the Middle East in order to blame Iran for the attack, drawing the U.S. into the war directly?
Is this something that you think about when you spend time wondering about such things?
Matt, I love you, but "heated up significantly" seems like a dispatch from some distant planet. This is a Total War. Isreal is directly hunting the Ayatollah, they have total air superiority, and they will keep at it until every politician and military officer in Iran is dead, their entire nuclear infrastructure is destroyed, and anything larger than a large firecracker is gone from Iran.
Most interesting is that nobody in the Arab World is upset about this. they are making statements Strongly Condemming Zionist Agression while high-fiving in Riyadh and helping the IDF shoot down Iranian missiles. Hezbollah has public said they are not picking up the phone and can you blame them? Oamn is really torqued because the peace talks and all that diplomatic hotel revenue has gone away. That's the only real adverse consequence of this in the Middle East.
The only regrets I have heard from any quarter is great sadness for the last remaining Iranian F-14s and F-4's getting destroyed. That is truly a tragic but unavoidable loss. Such beautiful bad-ass airplanes. :={
I bet you're going to hear a lot of great sadness out of Israelis crying that they are having their cities hit with ballistic missiles and that they are blameless perfect victims.
I heard some journalists are also upset that Israel targeted the official Iranian news station (civilian target) but I know the Free Speech crowd is okay when their side kills the other side's journalists.
I utterly do not care about any sort of relative morality or even politics. I am talking about facts, actions, and intentions. The fact is that Israel has launched a Total, not Limited, was on the Islamic government of Iran. Another fact is there has not even been a peep from any nearby country or even terrorist factions about helping out Iran or striking Israel. Another fact is Jordan, Turkey, Saudi have been helping defend Israel from missile attacks. The actions are that they have achieved total air superiority and have killed all of the senior military and political leadership with one major exception (checks watch) as of right now. Another action is the US positioning a lot of airplanes within range of Iran as we speak, including B-52's and that likely means we deliver the Final bunker-buster blows to the last few nuke sights.
Israel intends to keep destroying every military asset in Iran down to the last pebble and slingshot until Isreal determines Iran can no longer threaten Israel. Hopefully that involves revolution and regime change. Or they can do it the hard way.
Personally, gosh I weep for those beautiful F-4's. Won't somebody think of the Phantoms?
I am just astonished to hear people talking about "escalation". There is no escalation to escalate, other than nuclear, and Iran will absolutely not ever be able to even spell the word Uranium for several generations now. There is no higher level of violence, nobody else is getting involved except the US for 6hours or whatever is the round-trip time from Crete or Missouri to Tehran, and this war is all but over after four days.
Really wish Elon or even Putin would evacuate a few of those Phantoms and Tomcats tho.
Are we seriously going to try develop a psychological profile of this dude based on that dog’s breakfast of clips and snippets from this guy’s life? There’s nothing here that points toward any kind of pattern, mindset, motivation … it’s just a jumble of random facts and detritus from this guy’s life.
But concede you guys are right about one thing. This story is fucking weird.
Re: Walter’s summation of the US escalation in the Middle East. Israel cannot will be wiped out unless the US helps. US weapons cannot help against Iran’s modern tech. The US escalation option is NUKES. Trump’s perfidy is also a war crime, so he is impeachable at the point.

Thanks for last week. The last half of the show was really beautiful snd personal. Thanks for sharing.

maybe they kinda do? What do you think?
Maybe we should stop being angry at politicians for telling people what they wanna hear?
Or, start issuing a consequence for being lied to.

Inflation shot up because of all the money printing. It more or less tracked M2 money supply:

Go figure, the MMT crowd was full of sh*t.
