I hope the next four years give you more and more opportunities to uncover the truth and present it fairly, regardless of whose ox gets gored. I'm a good bit farther to the right than you are, Matt, but I am genuinely grateful for your professional willingness to clearly delineate fact from opinion.

I have always been open about my own “Libertarian leanings” with my friends ( the ones who didn’t betray/disown me as result ), and they will probably never realize the kindred sense that I truly feel when I read Matt’s work and revel in every ATW episode.

Matt and Walter are the best public reflection of our society and I am very thankful for their bravery and commitment in defense of Civil Liberties.

Truly priceless.

I agree, this time the truth of the 2020 election (assuming it’s available) needs to be exposed by Trump even if he worries it may be harmful to the country in some way. It is far more important that it never be allowed to happen again.

What states are those excess votes in? It doesn’t make sense to goose results nationwide. MI was about 150 K short (two party but we know third party got significant votes) GA is up 250K. IOW, the difference is worth investigating but now dispositive.

There were literally tons of paper-write-in ballots that states had to count in the middle of the night, last night. Some states still have not tabulated all of the mail-in ballots. Each state has a different way of doing it, according to their state laws. States’ Rights, and all. Some states counted mail-in ballots as they came in over the last couple weeks. Other states put mail-in ballots under armed guards and were counted only last night.

Everyone knows now that the polling was doctored and based off of vibes and wishful thinking instead of honest, in-depth socio-political analysis.

Also, and this point cannot be understated, I’ve been saying for 4 years at least- that when you start demonizing people for their political opinions, firing them, jumping them for wearing MAGA hats in public. Daughters and sons disowning their families (my case), being banned from social media, being censored, etc.

This is the fallout.

When people in a free society feel that it’s not free anymore, when they are censored and persecuted, they will speak in the only place it’s safe to at that point, and that place is the ballot box.

Any moron that paid attention through all of this and knows anything at all about human nature could have seen this coming like we did. Unfortunately for these stupid, fragile, brainwashed fuckwads, that’s not the case and I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER.

REAP IT MOTHERFUCKERS.

Sadly in other times and places these forces often imploded the whole culture.

We're still in the U.S.A. coasting on a political and economic architecture that lets these stresses ventilate. All that is so underappreciated and so overlooked -- especially by those in national media/politics who abuse it. (But then, per Twain, Mencken, Will Rogers, etc. etc. -- it's probly always been like this). Now it's our turn to see it first hand.

Atonement isn't in their make-up. They are delusional. They are "fighting" for "freedom" in the United States of America, freedom central for the world. Imagine them in Communist China. While of course, censoring your freedom of speech, preventing admission to college or ability to get a job based on immutable characteristics, forcing zoning in your neighborhood, taking your "unrealized wealth" and giving it to someone more deserving. That kind of "freedom." These are human, heat seeking missiles for grievance. They will double-down. This thing needs to be starved. Alternative media is overtaking them.

This was a really hard left turn that the American public stopped. This time. And we will probably need to again.

As another commenter noted the most remarkable aspect of the 2024 election is that despite there being no COVID there was no gigantic surge (18% more for Trump, 20% more for Biden) in "votes" as in 2020 during COVID, turnout went back to the usual level. I guess both sides (and the Ds in particular) were "persuaded" to do less obvious ballot box stuffing.

If they both got good at it then the total votes from this election should have gone up not down when compared to 2020.

Expand full comment
Blissex's avatar

In 2020 the biggest surges were in already R or D areas, and they were pointless because most states allocate electoral college delegation as "winner takes all", so increasing the margin of victory has no effect (for example in 2020 there was a massive D surge in California that would have gone D regardless).

What matters is stuffing the ballot boxes in the swing/contested areas so perhaps the "vote adjusters" just focused on those locations.

A few things:

1. If you're gonna cheat, then cheat were it is easiest to do so without consequences.

2. Artificially inflating the popular vote still serves a purpose even if it doesn't have any effect on the outcome of the election.

3. It makes sense to test out operations in a safe place.

Dean's avatar

No, the next few years will not be easy.

Trump, with a mandate, will have to start to deliver on a restoration of small town/middle/rural/working class America. Deportations will not be enough. The majority of Congressional Republicans, not to mention Democrats, are still "establishmentarians" that favor globalization, finance-centric corporatism and a consumption based economy. It will be interesting to see who becomes Senate Majority Leader, for instance.

As Matt has pointed out, the divide in the country is boiling down to a simple, classic clash between the classes. Very tenuous times still ahead.

By the way, does anyone have the travel itinerary for Bruce Springsteen & his Flee Street Band?

I hear that Boeing offers some amazing planes that would be perfect for a flying tour bus.

From what I understand, Bono, DeNiro & Tom Hanks have nailed the female back-up singer slots & Cher will take over the Clarence Clemons vacancy. Bruce is in a running battle with Rob Reiner for the leader slot. Reiner, who reportedly does a killer impression of Bruce as a fat old Jewish guy, is working hard so don't be surprised if there is a Biden style coup & it becomes Rob Reiner & His Flee Street Band.

He's no longer "The Boss" (a knickname he always disliked, but that's another story).

He's the Dem's errand boy. And it's pathetic.

His early lyrics and songs were genius, in my view. He understood the rage and pain of people kicked in the gut and in the face. So sad to see him now wearing Orwell's proverbial boot stomping on a face forever.

I don't disagree. Bruce is a fine songwriter & if I ever want advice on songwriting I'll seek him out.

But his songwriting success doesn't mean I should give a shit about his political advice.

I feel the same way about Kid Rock.

And then when Brucie delivers some cringe laden threat to leave the country over a presidential election the only possible response a sane person could come up with is "Don't let the door hit ya where the Good Lord split ya Brucie boy! Here's your hat, here's your coat, what's your hurry."

The amount of narcissism floating around, pandemic-like, inside Brucie's blood stream must be Godzilla sized.

I remember asking my dad about who he voted for. I got an education in the 2 things you never ask a man. 1. How much does he makes & 2. Who did he vote for.

Now it's like a virtue signal as empty as the posted photos of vaccine cards & band aids.

I watched Mark Ruff...Ruff...Ruffalo give a pre-election anti-Trump speech where everything the guy said had been debunked numerous times.

It should be obvious that entertainment talent doesn't equate with intellectual rigor.
