I'm old enough to remember when we all were told that preventing "Global Warming" (the PC term in the early days) would not cost the economy in any meaningful way... The first, but not the last, lie that the Climate Loons would propagate.
We were told endlessly that it would boost the economy, that the energy transition was necessary to "remain competitive", and that it would lead to cheaper electricity.
Every single statement a lie. To give benefit of a doubt, most are not smart enough to understand what they are saying, so maybe "lie" is a strong word when moron will do.
At least Hochul seems to represent a bare glimmering of common sense of the left.
Your claims are false. Renewable energy does boost the economy (through less expensive power sources plus jobs from project development, construction and maintenance), the energy transition is necessary to remain competitive (remaining reliant on expensive fossil fuels for power would hinder the U.S. economy) and it does result in cheaper electricity (without renewables the cost of electricity in the U.S. would be higher than it currently is).
Electricity prices have risen in the U.S. due to a few factors that have nothing to do with renewable energy such as 1) grid modernization with utilities spending billions to upgrade aging infrastructure and enhance grid resilience against severe weather — those costs are passed on to consumers, 2) surging electricity demand from data centers, manufacturing and EV adoption and 3) higher natural gas prices as natural gas is still used to augment the power generated from renewables.
Helo Pilot is a leftwing nutcase. Also a troll. you can expect him to reply. Normally I counsel ignoring him - including any replies he gives you. But your take down was spot on and well worth the risk that he further shits his pants in response.
No, not “every jurisdiction on earth that installed renewables has ever more expensive power” — Spain, for example, greatly increased its use of renewables over the past several years which has reduced household electricity bills significantly compared to prior years.
“Grid cost explosion” is not “due to having to connect all these renewables” — the large grid costs are due to the massive investments to replace aging grid infrastructure (some of which dates back to the 1960s) and the need to harden systems against extreme weather so millions of Americans are not left without power after each major storm.
Yes, “we still need the useful on demand kind” of power which is why more battery storage systems are being built to store the excess electricity produced by renewables. Developing “weeks worth” of battery storage will take time but advancements in battery technology are occurring and it will happen.
Your comments are further evidence of the closed-mindedness that conservatives are famous for. Conservatives limit themselves to the status quo and think that it will remain that way forever. For centuries people burned candles and oil for illumination until the advent of incandescent lights. For centuries people thought it was impossible to fly. For centuries it was impossible to communicate around the world but now we have satellites, cell towers and the internet.
Ha! Spain?!? Did you not hear about the grid failure in Spain? - it occurred precisely because they were stupid enough to decommission gas turbines in favor of renewables - the incredibly sad fact which you amateurs never seem to understand is that the grid is only possible because of dispatchable (i.e., there when you need it) gas turbines that have the inertia needed to dampen voltage and phase excursions on the grid. Without them the grid inevitably fails.
Your claim is false. The grid failure in Spain in April of 2025 was due to a voltage control problem. When the voltage rose it caused some transformers to disconnect power plants from the grid, which then made the voltage go even higher, causing more disconnections, and the cycle kept repeating until there was no power left for the grid.
Inverter based resources such as wind and solar (especially when paired with batteries) can regulate voltage very quickly, if they are allowed to do so. However, the Spanish grid only allowed conventional fossil fuel generators to control voltage, which contributed to this voltage chain reaction. Investigators in Spain concluded that allowing renewables and batteries to regulate voltage would have prevented the blackout.
Germany is not “flailing.” One of the main reasons energy prices have risen so much in Germany in recent years is because of the war in Ukraine. Germany has been phasing out its use of natural gas from Russia as a way to show disapproval of Russia’s aggression. As the supply of natural gas has declined, natural gas prices have risen. Germany’s decision to start relying on fossil fuels from Russia decades ago is the problem, not Germany’s decision to invest in renewables.
Spain’s consumer electricity prices have gone down due to renewables and that is a fact. It is not due to “back door subsidies” as you claim.
As for “subsidies” — the fossil fuel industry has received far more government subsidies than the renewables sector.
Your previous comment did not say what you think are “climate lies” which is why I asked. See my previous comment which asked you to be specific about what you claim are “climate lies.”
Renewable energy mandates create economic activity in the same way that a hurricane does. After all, lots of construction workers have to clean up the debris snd rebuild after a hurricane. Still, there’s a net loss in economic terms.
Your comparison is flawed. 1) Renewable energy is now less expensive than fossil fuels. 2) Renewable energy creates three times as many jobs for every dollar invested compared to the fossil fuel industry. 3) Switching to clean energy reduces pollution-related illnesses. The health and economic damage from air pollution is roughly $8 trillion per year worldwide. Cutting this pollution provides huge economic benefits.
If we want yo keep the lights and AC on we have no alternative. Wind and solar are not available on demand. In Texas most of our off peak is actually provided by renewables. But peak demand and night requires fossil fuels.
The February 2021 Texas grid failure was due to the improper insulation of power plants and natural gas supply lines. The extreme cold (as low as -2°) froze pipes which caused coal and natural gas plants to shut down. That grid failure had nothing to do with renewable energy.
coal fired plants had been shut down and replaced by renewables.
True, gas lines froze… upstream. Coal took a long time to get online. Those plants don’t turn on with a switch. Had they been kept running it would have mitigated the harm.
The Texas coal fired plants that were shut down were retired for economic reasons — not because the coal plants were polluting and the renewables were clean.
Your claim of “Had they been kept running it would have mitigated the harm” is false. The 2021 Texas grid crisis was due to a widespread, simultaneous failure across all power sources, rather than a simple lack of capacity, with about 30 GW of thermal (gas, coal and nuclear) generation failing around the same time.
Wind turbines did freeze but it was failures in the thermal power sector (natural gas, coal and nuclear) that had a much greater impact on the grid collapse. Natural gas plants in particular lost 5 times more power capacity than wind.
Alexandra is pointing out the power of a shadowy organization, obviously given great power by NYS, known is ORES (Office of Renewable Energy Siting), whose employees are mostly unknown, whose contact numbers change frequently, thus preventing scrutiny and making contact with this organization impossible.
ORES is able to override the desires of state and local governments to site and approve solar "farms" with no local input and despite objections by both local governments and local citizens.
Currently, one of the last remaining grasslands in the northeast is slated to become a large solar installation, despite that area being designated by DEC (Department of Environmental Conservation) as a protected habitat. There are DEC warning signs posted around the area warning people that it is a protected habitat, but it is slated to fall to a large solar installation by ORES very soon.
Another area in western NY is clearing over 100,000 trees to make way for yet another large solar installation. They are springing up all over, much to the surprise and dismay of both politicians and their citizens.
If you go to NYISO.com (the New York Independent System Operator), they have a dashboard that tracks real time energy load. They also have historic results. That demand is broken down by how much and what proportion of energy is coming from different sources. Solar is particularly dismal as a contributor to the grid.
These folks live in an economic fantasyland were costs don’t matter, whether it’s new buildings not having natural gas(wait til electric rate keep going up), the importance is to virtue signal, business failures, job losses don’t matter because somehow they think tax revenue falls from the sky. As people and businesses are pushed out and the tax revenue takes a huge hit, then they act surprised and raise taxes!
The only way they can sell this is through the cultic religion called "climate change". It diverges from Christianity in two respects. Instead of saving your eternal soul, it implausibly claims you're saving the planet. And it's false.
Why do north americans cite europe as an example only when its convenient?
Europe most definitely led the way in the push to renewables and as a result they lead the way in backing away. Every day the evidence mounts that the politicians in charge are finally starting to see the reality that we have been seeing for a decade.
Germany is in full blown crisis, the jurisdiction more advanced on this path than any.
The only success of renewables is de-industrializing society, something you and the looneys failed to mention as a possible side effect.
Same is true of "gender affirming care", ie chopping up mentally ill kids. West european countries led this parade and are seeing the failure of it, the utter bankruptcy of the "science" behind it. So why do north american progressives refuse to learn from those with the experience?
Here in canada we have only the Alberta provincial govt acting on the actual science, everyone else keeps mumbling the equivalent of "renewables are cheapest to install" gaslighting horseshit.
It all needs flushing before it bankrupts and destroys society.

Everything you said is wrong.
Every jurisdiction on earth that installed “cheap renewables” has ever more expensive power. Every last one, no exception.
Grid cost explosion is due to having to connect all these useless renewables.
On top of updates.
Costs were rising well before this datacenter boom.
And it doesn’t matter how many grids worth of renewables you install we still need the useful on demand kind.
We will never be able to afford storage to make renewables work, weeks worth
German leads and is leading in backing away.
Those are facts.
Thank you for taking the time to debunk that nonsense
It’s endless
All you have to be able to do is “read” and it quickly becomes clear that the renewables advocates are utterly clueless.
But like everything else the woke idiots that are their audience will just nod and drool

Funny that Spain can make it work but a far more technical country like Germany is flailing?
Some countries have back door subsidies to make the cost appear less.
But the cost is the cost.
Without subsidies renewables die instantly.
That’s why you are so anti Trump, he’s exposed it all.
Germany is not “flailing.” One of the main reasons energy prices have risen so much in Germany in recent years is because of the war in Ukraine. Pfftt!
Yeah, we all saw how great "renewable energy" sources work during that cold snap in Texas a few years back.
The February 2021 Texas grid failure was due to the improper insulation of power plants and natural gas supply lines. The extreme cold (as low as -2°) froze pipes which caused coal and natural gas plants to shut down. That grid failure had nothing to do with renewable energy.

Uh huh.
Wind turbines did freeze but it was failures in the thermal power sector (natural gas, coal and nuclear) that had a much greater impact on the grid collapse. Natural gas plants in particular lost 5 times more power capacity than wind.

Uh...not even CLOSE.
I’m old enough to remember when they threatened us with the fear of an impending ice age when I was a child in the 1970s.
Yup. Another story I read in Ranger Rick in 5th grade… we ran out of oil in 1997.
I remember that!
Then it morphed into "Global Warming."
Then, after a few really severe winters, they switched to "Climate Change," which I always render as "Climate Armageddon." That covers everything.
Al Gore just announced we are again supposed to anticipate the coming of an ICE AGE…
