I'm old enough to remember when we all were told that preventing "Global Warming" (the PC term in the early days) would not cost the economy in any meaningful way... The first, but not the last, lie that the Climate Loons would propagate.
We were told endlessly that it would boost the economy, that the energy transition was necessary to "remain competitive", and that it would lead to cheaper electricity.
Every single statement a lie. To give benefit of a doubt, most are not smart enough to understand what they are saying, so maybe "lie" is a strong word when moron will do.
At least Hochul seems to represent a bare glimmering of common sense of the left.
Your claims are false. Renewable energy does boost the economy (through less expensive power sources plus jobs from project development, construction and maintenance), the energy transition is necessary to remain competitive (remaining reliant on expensive fossil fuels for power would hinder the U.S. economy) and it does result in cheaper electricity (without renewables the cost of electricity in the U.S. would be higher than it currently is).
Electricity prices have risen in the U.S. due to a few factors that have nothing to do with renewable energy such as 1) grid modernization with utilities spending billions to upgrade aging infrastructure and enhance grid resilience against severe weather — those costs are passed on to consumers, 2) surging electricity demand from data centers, manufacturing and EV adoption and 3) higher natural gas prices as natural gas is still used to augment the power generated from renewables.
These folks live in an economic fantasyland were costs don’t matter, whether it’s new buildings not having natural gas(wait til electric rate keep going up), the importance is to virtue signal, business failures, job losses don’t matter because somehow they think tax revenue falls from the sky. As people and businesses are pushed out and the tax revenue takes a huge hit, then they act surprised and raise taxes!
Hochul is simply facing reality, she was on board with all of this but physics smacked her in the face (at least she is capable of learning) coddling the climate/insane gets you nowhere, you only have to look at germany that led this parade and is in deep trouble, entirely predicted by the non climate/insane.
The German chancellor and now the energy minister have admitted in public that the decision to close nuclear and push into renewables (exactly what the new york bill proposed) was and is an unfolding economic disaster. It doesn't work, it cannot work, a pointless explosion of cost and no benefit.
These protestors are the German Greens, people that must be ignored and get civilization back on the rails.
The only way they can sell this is through the cultic religion called "climate change". It diverges from Christianity in two respects. Instead of saving your eternal soul, it implausibly claims you're saving the planet. And it's false.
Feels like the juice has really fallen out of climate activism. Amazing what happens when luxury beliefs bump up against actual tradeoffs.
Because I'm a nerd and love cross-tabs visualizing how people actually cluster on stuff like that, I built an app to visualize how different communities stack up on a variety of hot takes and dimensions to see the fault lines. Dedicated page for the Racket fam here: https://votto.app/racket
Check it out if you like interesting cross-tabs and opinion comparisons between different audiences/groups. Meant to be more like a living vibe check than a traditional survey, so don't expect question statements to read like typical, dry polling mush. Particularly interested to see Racket reader splits against other communities with strong data like The Free Press, Slow Boring, etc.
Is any further evidence needed to highlight the progressive loss of perspective. Bankrupt the working class and destroy the local economies to pursue a goal that will have exactly ZERO EFFECT on climate change, but you'll feel good about saving the Earth. Idiots each and every one.
Let's see now, the phrase "Absent change" is of possible interest. Actually it's key to understanding the study's irrelevance, though other costs, like the ignored health care needs and mortality resulting from a polluted environment, are nontrivial.
The projection of the cost of fuel is interesting. Has the author looked at the Middle East recently?
Or savings from moving to electric cars, heat pumps, induction stoves, etc.? I'm guessing not.
As for global warming, clearly a large fraction of readership here are quite certain it's a hoax even though it's a well-studied field and where there is a consensus of its reality and threat (side note: Exxon scientists realized this back in the 1970s and the corporate response was to double down on denial messaging). Insurance companies are already starting to worry to the point it's likely home insurance in much of the country will soon be affordable - now there's a cost!
Then we have the cost of Trump's crippling of solar and wind power generation. Did the study look into what's happening in those sectors; the cost of electricity from them is already cheaper than petroleum? The rest of the world is moving to alternative energy sources and the US will be left as a geriatric, overpriced, backwater economically and technologically.
Please interview Alexandra Fasulo. She is documenting and pushing back against all of the green mandates destroying pristine nature in upstate New York. Here is one of many examples: https://houseofgreen.substack.com/p/new-yorks-renewable-energy-office

I think the term you are looking for is "useful idiot." There are lots of them!
Of course, the question is "useful to whom"?
Those who manage the edifice of climate emergency.
Tens of Trillions at stake, of course they can afford to pay these people to protest

Congratulations
Everything you said is wrong.
Every jurisdiction on earth that installed “cheap renewables” has ever more expensive power. Every last one, no exception.
Grid cost explosion is due to having to connect all these useless renewables.
On top of updates.
Costs were rising well before this datacenter boom.
And it doesn’t matter how many grids worth of renewables you install we still need the useful on demand kind.
We will never be able to afford storage to make renewables work, weeks worth
German leads and is leading in backing away.
Those are facts.

Eugyppius has done many posts on the german greens, as they accelerate the country off the cliff the greens and the woke supporters cheer
Heheh. No "queens." Now that's a multipurpose chant if I ever heard one!
There is no Leftist Loon more loonier than a Leftist Climate Loon...
As always, can't resist watching the train wreck of our political landscape.

Dipshits
An all too rare display of sanity on the part of an otherwise delusional Kathy Hochul.
This is why nothing gets built in the United States, while China moves at "Breakneck" speed.
"Climate denying" might be in vogue ... The climate cancellation brigade might be forced to succumb to the adults in the room.
