I'm guessing that a lot of common men/women were and still are getting the power and water restored in Texas as we thinkers ruminate about whether Marcuse's philosophy that they are just too stupid and unread to be included in a conversation about how best to be ruled is correct.. or shall we allow these ignorant rubes a say and go again…

Ahh..let us scratch our chins in the warm glow of our laptops and contemplate this... Hey WTF my power just went out!...Ma!, the power
And there have been a couple of minor cooling phases since the big melt. If the eventual consequences were not so dire, the way the media and the masses flock to fabricated threats would be rather funny. Instead, as their attention is focused on the official threat, via government edict, the real threats slip past the masses; until one day they ask, "Gee, when did this happen?".
I guess this is where we part ways. I gather you subscribe to the thought the earth is 4 billion, give or take a day or two, years old. Personally I have trouble with that particular portion of "settled science".
Consider earth's magnetic field. Life could not, as far as we can tell, exist without it yet it is in a decaying state. Given the rate of decay we have witnessed in the last century or so, it is difficult to believe the earth is millions, much less billions of years old.
I will concede I am not the person to site specific facts and figures related to this topic, but NASA, and other sources do acknowledge this is a real event; just as it is on the other planets in the solar system. There are qualified scientist who reject the billions of years theory, but they are shunned by the collective due to their unwillingness to go along to get along.
I realize a large section of the collective called modern science is in unison when it comes to the age of the earth, but then again, not too long ago it was "settled science' to bleed the sick into good health. George Washington could tell a tale or two on that subject.
We agree that evolution, astronomical as well as that for Earth, are little more than theories. You cite scientific consensus, considering the absence of any evidence, I think when related to evolution it is a bit of a misnomer; theoretic consensus would seem more accurate.
Personally I believe God created the Universe, and that is an act of faith. I am of the opinion to believe the Big Bang, which I believe falls under what you called scientific consensus, requires at least as much faith as God the Creator does. After all, to think that energy and matter don't exist one minute (of course they say time didn't exist until the BB too) but the next minute the non-existing energy, matter and time exploded and created the ordered Universe we live in today; all that with no evidence to prove it. That's actually an amazing, amusing theory.
And the Theory of Evolution for Earth is equally amusing. One of the cornerstones for Darwin's theory is the fact that races are anything but equal. I think it would be safe to call Darwin the inspiration for organizations such as the KKK; because the Theory of Evolution was considered "settled science" by the mid 1800's. I wonder if the people who are demanding books be banned have considered Darwin's writings.
Many of the same people who are selling the religion formally known as Global Warming are also equally committed to the Theory of Evolution. Unfortunately they are able to convince an indifferent audience, so they have become "settled science".
Texas relies on wind-generated power more than any other state in the U.S., and that was a major source of grid instability. In other words, they went too far appeasing the climate change believers, and that's what caused this mess.
That’s what Abbott and his fellow politicians are saying, but there is reporting that the electric council decided not to spend money on winterizing any of its power generators, wind, gas, or coal. The gas generators froze first. The wind generators do come with winterizing packages, but Texas didn’t buy them.
Wow, never would've guessed Texas was far and away the most progressive state in our country in actually implementing wind power instead of just talking about it endlessly
Lol.. my post wasn’t really about Tx specifically (circumstances there just fit at the moment)but anywhere that needs “common” people to do things that many others that fancy themselves to be intellectually superior can’t or won’t do. Telling people like that they don’t have the same rights to free speech or a contrary political opinion because they’re too dumb and well, you’re just better at making those decisions for them.. well, as T Sowell said “It doesn’t matter how smart you are, if you don’t stop and think”
Listen, I know it's arrogant to tell them they can't speak freely or do what they want politically, but I think my initial post covered that. I'm not going to pretend they aren't stupid to make someone feel better, though. They're fucking dumb. Dumb in the city - the arrogance of those is a sight to behold, so convinced they have the right answers - and dumb in the country.
I also think religion is stupid but I don't spend a lot of time telling people that. People get to have their own illusions. It is a similar situation - the organized nature of it has certain benefits for society, but the whole fairytale metaphysics aspect of it is bunk.

When did the climate start changing? Prior to that, was it static?

That goes against AFM guidelines.

Thanks SH. Interesting article, especially with a debate about Marcuse going on in the background!
Hmmm - I read somewhere that wind is a minor source of power in Texas ...

"actually implementing wind power instead of just talking about it endlessly"
There's some kind of joke to be made here. "Wind" power? Get it?
Too bad they didn't winterize them ...
