He is actually back to what he was like before his stroke in 2022. A Dem, for sure, but not a progressive. He understands and can communicate with the "working class" and is a great retail politician. He is the "man" the Dems walked away from and just spent $20 million trying to figure out how to attract.
I am a recovering Republican that lives in a small town about 10 miles away from the small town where he served as mayor for years. Everyone in Western Pennsylvania knew about him and liked and admired him. My husband and I agreed, after Fetterman's visit to Mar-a-Lago, that he could "own" his Senate seat if he kept following his instincts instead of the Dems.
If the Democrats try to get rid of him they are bigger fools than I imagine.
I worked for an NPO in Pittsburgh that had a site out that way, and I became familiar with him as mayor. I respected and admired him also. Glad to hear he's recovered, and here's a message to everyone out there:
People recover from strokes. Very few of us need a dribble-cup after one, and Fettermen probably did the very best thing he could've done to recover - he stayed the course, stayed busy, and exercised his brain.
Strokes seem to often cause a dismissal of pretentions. For whatever reason, having a stroke often causes one to disregard (to put it as a familiar phrase), "what the neighbors think". This happened to me, and two others close to me, as well as many testimonials I've read since my event.
See my comment above to Susan G. At best, Fetterman is a wolf in sheep's clothing. Better than the run of the mill douche bag Democrat. But that is a low bar.
I don’t think he’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing. I think I have disagreements with him, but that’s ok. As times gone on I’ve started to like him personally as well.
You and Ollo Gorog (commenting below) ought to Google the WTAE Channel 4 clip of him with a shotgun chasing a Black jogger down the street in his hometown. Or Google Fetterman shambling around at the site of the Frick Park bridge collapse. Hoodie up, cut off sweat pants and ratty running shoes, EarPods in listening to god knows what while fire and police officials were gathered trying to figure out what to do. Fetterman was lost; looked like he was coming off a night of serious drinking. Fetterman today only seems good by comparison to the usual crowd of Democrats. Stripped to his essence, he is a quite traditional and leftward Dem.
He certainly does not present the diplomatic (read, attractive bullshitter) image that we've become accustomed to. Walter Kirn once said something like, "If I saw him wandering around my truck at night, I'd call the cops". I get that, but I believe image has taken the stage over substance. I also believe it's too soon to judge anyone at this chaotic political "moment". Maybe, like the rest of us, he's learning who the bad guys actually are.
EDIT: I almost posted the "Are we the Baddies?" link again, lol! I love that clip!
Please note I live in Western PA. I am very familiar with the black jogger incident; it was a bad look but sure has not harmed his political rise. Fetterman was Lieutenant Governor when the bridge collapse occurred. He clearly was sent there to show his (and Governor Wolf's) concern, nothing more. My point was to provide a perspective on Fetterman from a voter from his state (who would not vote for him) but can see his appeal and strengths.
"He clearly was sent there to show his (and Governor Wolf's) concern, nothing more."
Highly unlikely. Tom Wolf was distracted by all things Covid and Trans (Richard "Rachel" Levine, the creepiest dude to ever serve the citizens of the Commonwealth). I do not think PA Govs have much use for or to do with their Lt. Govs. Fetterman has always danced to his own tune. Had Fetterman been sent by Wolf he not have been ignored by Peduto and the rest of the Dem office holders at the bridge. Fetterman spent his Lt gov-ship hanging around Rankin and Braddock.
Fetterman does NOT understand the"working class". Any doubt , check his allegiances on the US Steel merger with Nippon. Despite the local Edgar Thompson Works and Mon Valley Works rank and file overwhelming support for the Nippon deal, Fetterman blindly followed the lead of the International USW union leadership who were bought and paid for by Cleveland Cliffs. Locals met with Fettermann in DC. To no avail.
As I said, Fetterman is a down the line Dem, only looking "reasonable" because Dems have slid into Antifa-land by their cowardice and TDS.
Add his name to the list. Tulsi, Musk, RFKjr are the headline names, but I wonder how many other Fettermans are out there and have had enough of the Dems. It's a damaged brand with poor leadership, messaging and an ugly face. The Dems are the automotive version of a 95k bloated Jeep Cherokee, a car trading on its name because it has nothing redeeming that once made it great. It's asking way too much and delivering too little. Oh, and it's rotting on the lot because no one wants it.
"...but I wonder how many other Fettermans are out there and have had enough of the Dems."
Good question. If Fetterman's on the Kremlin payroll, other Dems are almost certain to consider feeding at Putin's trough. Putin's spraying around the propaganda monies like VC bonuses after a public offering.
I'm from Fetterman's hometown of York PA, and was ashamed to say it when he broke on the scene. Seeing him at his pre-election debate I thought he was too brain-damaged to ever win. But now I take it all back. Since he's been in office and got healthy he has come to make more sense on every issue than the rest of the Democratic Party put together, and is willing to buck them. He ought to follow Tulsi and RFK and join the Party of Right, where he would be welcome to help make a difference.
"The fact that Fetterman will most certainly be primaried out of the party as a consequence also says a lot about the Democrats."
You obviously do not know Pennsylvania. t is a deep purple state and folks will switch parties in the Primary he runs in if there is any serious challenge by statist Dems.
Why are we talking about John Fetterman? Are you being paid to push his name forward as the next Democratic candidate for President? He’s a product of the Harvard Kennedy School and all that scary grooming that goes on years before the powers that be put forward their boy? Did you read Matt’s article?
John Fetterman is about as lucid and cogent as Joe Biden and THAT is very on-brand for Democrats. He's being primaried because of his revolting, war-mongering, child-murdering stance on Israel and because he hasn't met with his actual constituents in ages.
The GOP is just as guilty, as they say one thing and then slow walk everything into perpetuity. Always promising- NEVER DELIVERING.
Power is the end game to the Uniparty, once they’ve had a taste, they want to hold on to it at all costs.
I’ve come to the realization that nothing will get better, and things will continue to unravel, here, and across the globe.
I’m confident in my Lord Jesus, and all of this has been prophesied long ago. Globalism WILL take hold, but how long it takes to get there is the question.
We're culpable too. We played a part with our negligence. We're greedy, and we gave a wink and a nod to the Uniparty for a long time while it never delivered. So, we got sloth and greed by the masses. Those have to be two big pet peeves of The Lord!
"Globalism WILL take hold"... really? Are you sure? I see Globalism as a very fragile system, albiet one that feeds humanity, among many other things, but a fragile system just the same. I also trust in Our Lord, and I trust that He will try to guide us back to a more homegrown way of living, before global trade starts WW3. Will we listen?
How can globalism "feed(s) humanity," when globalist nut jobs are hassling farmers from India to The Netherlands?
Globalists want to cull the excess carbon, through stupid government policies that hurt farmers, destroy both the working class & the middle class, push mass vaccinations & fertility-killing chemicals in our food, and stoke the politics of resentment & envy.
As is usually the case, I completely agree with you, BW. That is how they feed humanity. They feed us by destroying the ways that we have been fed, to replace them with their way. Instead of a bunch of farmers all around the world making a living and providing for their families, we have Cargill, Dole, Tyson, Nestle, General Mills, etc, and the rich globalists get richer. Meanwhile, we become totally dependent on Big Food and Big Shipping just to feed ourselves and our families. And yes, with food that may very well be poisoning us!
I can say with certainty, that a small group, smaller then 9/11, could completely stop international shipping in a flash, and probably not lose or take a single life. How many people would starve to death if it happens? Who knows.
Too many Dems and Republicans believe their brand imbues moral superiority. Religious cranks of the right crippled rational discourse over abortion access and America ended up with Roe versus Wade. Dems did the same and we ended up with Trump.
I spent much of my life in unions. Trump requires intense scrutiny because all politicians do. I'm completely convinced that Trump wants nothing more than to be loved and admired for protecting America and improving the quality of life of all Americans, including legal immigrants, for generations to come.
Trump wants that place on Mount Rushmore, and a peace prize or two, if possible. Early days yet. But if Trump 1.0 is any indication, far better days on the horizon.
As Matt observes, Dems currently can't or won't change, but fewer and fewer Americans are going to look at Dems with anything but contempt, fear, and confusion. Coz the Dems have gone nuts.
Update - Just in- 59-39 of Americans support Trump Sending in the National Guard. Surprise!
The constant battle for Democrats to override and ignore that the population outright disagrees with their agenda after the most accurate poll possible, last November kicked them to the curb. It tells us how authoritarian they really are. That electoral poll included everyone legally allowed to participate in the vote. It was confirmed across all demographics. Both right and the old school left had agreed that President Trump's vision was the most responsible, addressed actual problems with thoughtful solutions and coherency and he actually intended to deliver. Donald Trump vowed to represent the people. The Democrats were outraged and incensed (still are) at the very notion that anyone would revert back to democracy as it was defined by generations before them. This was going to lead to the very destruction of their version and reinterpretation of that word. It was going to destroy their version of "Democratcy" a version that uses propaganda, censorship and shaming to create a consensus around what it means to be free in their new vision. A vision where they decide who we are even allowed to vote for and what is best for the entire world. In their minds we are destroying Democratcy. In reality we are. In reality we must. It's the only way to preserve democracy, sovereignty and sanity.
These sorts of polls--quickies taken after or even before an event has concluded--are meaningless. And any poll from RealFuzzypolitcs.com ought to be heavily discounted.
A perfect example of why nobody can believe anything. For any set of "experts" making a claim, a set of counter "experts" can be found to claim the opposite. Nobody making a living has the time to do the research and find the truth, because where is it? Who has it? Anybody with a brain has to disregard the experts and try to come to their own conclusion, right or wrong.
They are speaking to people who at this moment aren't legally allowed to vote or even live here. They are speaking to people who haven't experienced their bullshit ,authoritarian world view. They aren't speaking to the generations of citizens who have been cast aside for their agenda. They aren't trying to preserve a democracy. They're trying to stack the deck. They're trying to thwart democracy.
They see the distinction just fine. They just refuse to publicly admit it. They may be dumb, but more than that, they’re stone-cold liars. Don’t anoint Fetterman for stating the obvious. Instead, ostracize those who continue to lie about it in the face of all evidence to the contrary.
Actually, Rahm did, and I'm thinking more and more, that as loathsome as he is, he has a great pathway. He could do to the Democrat Party what Trump did to the Republican party, twice.
If he were to visit LA and give a fiery speech that the Dems have lost their way, or something softer, he'd own the common sense Dems, the billionaires, which I believe have greater numbers than the Progs.
As long as he can restrain himself from calling out any “fucking retards.”
He’s definitely testing the waters. Good fucking luck. Not only did he keep Obamacare from being good, he went on to ruin a great city. But there he was on Maher’s show recently, showing his face for the first time in forever.
He’s more of the same Clinton/Bush/Obama/Biden ruling elite band of assholes.
He wants to be the face of a machine we are in the process of decommissioning because it was poisoning the population. The next election must be watched very carefully as bad mistakes try to work their way back into relevancy and power.
Maybe he is "more of the same". I'm still watching, but there is an observable difference - your lineup (even go back to Reagan) generally speaking, those pols didn't publicly despise each other. This seems different.
He’ll never do it. He knows the democrats have been taken over by the lunatics. He can, as others can, see what they are doing to Fetterman and how they hail AOC and Mayor Pete as the next presidential. Idiocy.
Not really. They purged the moderate wing over a decade ago. Until they realize that without them, they'll never have a majority, they'll always be a vocal but largely irrelevant (in a political sense) minority, despite their cultural prominence.
That photo will become as immortal as the one of Trump pumping his fist. It will live for 100 years. Did you see Babylon Bee's take on it? "Illegals help Republican party with campaign video."!!!
I have now encountered commenters who don't even know that there was a first Mexican/American war.
Funny thing, I've met a shitload of people over the years who were descended from the hispanics who stayed in the newly american territories after the purchase. They are all pretty American and don't really identify with Mexico at all. It is the newbies who are pushing this shit.
I had a boyfriend back in the eighties, He was part Native and part Spanish/Mexican and his family had been in New Mexico for centuries. He was a Navy vet as well. He brought me to his parent's house for thanksgiving one year. It was amazing- all the usual trimming like turkey, pumpkin pie and those green beans with onions along side homemade tortillas, refried beans and some traditional NM/hispanic dishes.
I still think it was one of the best thanksgivings I ever got to visit.
Spain took over NM in 1598. So they had it 250 years. We've only had it 177. My mom was Hispano from NM and married my dad (Irish) during WWII. She'd gone to San Diego from NM to work in defense industry.
A really good book by Willa Cather--Death Comes for the Archbishop--puts this in a perspective people today don't know. After the Treaty of Guadalupe ceded the SW to US the Pope decided he needed to send a new Bishop (Frenchman, Jean-Baptiste Lamy) to shape up the (former) Mexican clergy. Death Comes for the Archbishop is episodic and focuses on the Natives, the Mexicans and the newly arriving Americans taking over in the SW. I think you would like this book.
And, while listening to Stephen A Smith, he somehow forgot that the republicans voted for the civil rights act while southern democrats filibustered it. Rewriting history.
“We come and go, but the land is always here. And the people who love it and understand it are the people who own it — for a little while.” Cather, “0 Pioneers!”
After an illegal invasion and an offer they couldn’t refuse. Mexico was up to its eyeballs in debt, and got invaded again, by France a little over 10 years later, to collect on debt (ostensibly).
It’s why Porfirio Diaz (who fought in the war against the Intervention) worked so hard to industrialize and modernize the country in the late 1800s.
Exactly. Progressives on the bleeding edge of political fashion want more and more illegal immigrants to cross the border, even thought the country is hopelessly racist. Of course.
Trump and R Congress need only ramp up further the proposed 5% tax on outbound remittances (in BBB) to about 15%. That will cut down illegal immigration quite a bit. Unions (and HS educated Americans) should love it, as the reduced labor force will increase wages first on all those despicable jobs, then increase wages will filter up from there. Gated communities can pay more for their landscaping or (gasp!) mow their own yards.
Matt, that's a great idea. And I continue (seriously) to be astonished that unions don't raise more hell about the endless deluge of cheap labor. This has astonished me for many decades.
Barbara Jordan spoke passionately about this towards the end of her life. She talked about the loss of jobs to people in this country who needed them most and said that it was the government’s job to make life easier for citizens, not harder. How I miss the Democrats of my youth.
You are so right. She was a good and powerful woman and died too soon. But thankfully, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and in my home state of Texas, we have many statues as well as buildings, streets, parks and schools named for her.
Is there a connection between these ‘protests’ and the ‘5% tax on outbound remittances’ leaked out from BBB? Mexico president Claudia Pardo started raising hell about this on May 16th. I would too if 3.5% of my entire countries GDP ($65B in 2024!) was reliant on remittances. That is money spent in local Mexico economy and each purchase subject to Mexico’s 16% VAT tax.
Guatemala remittances make up 19% of its GDP. Venezuela remittances 6% GDP. Honduras, Nicaragua & El Salvador, 25% of GDP. Much of Latin America’s government revenues would be greatly impacted by USA taking an origin bite out of remittances.
Here’s wiki entry for list of countries the world over and share of GDP comprised of remittances:
It does seem counter-intuitive, unless the unions and/or their leadership somehow benefit. This from 2014, from a black Commissioner on Obama's U.S. Commission on Civil Rights:
"“Granting legal status to millions of people who are in the United States illegally will continue to depress the wages and employment opportunities of African-American men and teenagers,” Kirsanow writes. “It will also depress the wages and employment opportunities of African-Americans going forward. The civil rights commissioner goes on to blast the commander-in-chief for igniting the recent flood of illegal immigration by granting legal status to those living in the U.S. illegally. “When you incentivize bad behavior, you get more of it,” Kirsanow tells Obama."
Just got the new Renaud Camus/ENEMY OF THE DISASTER book. Camus coined the term "great replacement". It explains the L.A. ICE riots, the illegals riots in France and England, the economic looting, take down of the American Republic and the ascent of the surveillance state. Recent N.S. Lyons/THE UPHEAVAL interviews on Youtube can bring the average citizen up to speed. Just sayin'.
We all, that I experienced, mowed our families yards as kids or a neighbors kid did. I read wages have already increased.8%, not sure which sector but a positive sign
Well, I don't know about here, but I do know in most of Europe... those people do return to those countries they wave flags for during holiday. The most amazing thing is they go on holiday while in many cases not even having jobs.
The enraging part is that immigrants enter a country and claim they are fleeing deadly persecution in their home countries but happily return to those countries for vacation each year.
People waving the Mexican flag are indicating a retaking of land that used to be part of Mexico. They aren't wanting to go back to the country now known as Mexico.
After the “tiki torch” episode I was assigned to cover a counter-protest in Boston, as the hated alt-right neo-Nazis had a March planned there. I went and found basically the entire city swamped with anti-Trump demonstrators, but the actual contingent of supposedly pro-Confederate haters was about nine people (they all fit in a pagoda in Boston Common). I’m sure there are Confederate flag wavers and Klansmen out there, but despite repeated assignments to cover their marches, I never seem to find many.
I’ve witnessed far worse racism in the NYC area versus the Deep South, yet Northern libs never stop preaching it’s the opposite.
I’ve managed construction job sites in Atlanta where half the subcontracting firms are African American owned and half the workers AA and people get along. Whereas good luck finding an AA non- union firm in the NYC area and the racism is intense on the job sites.
Studies of segregation show very Democratic NYC, Newark, and their immediate suburbs are amongst the most segregated areas in the country.
95% of NYC's neighborhoods are either less than 10% white or less than 10% black.
While in college, I worked a summer for Con Ed, where I was the field guy for their auditing department. The vast majority of their employees were unwilling to venture into most neighborhoods. They live in a bubble. Whereas, I loved venturing into all of the neighborhoods.
Here in SW Ohio the mayor/city council of a mostly black inner suburb of Cincinnati recently criticized the police of Vivek Ramaswamy’s neighboring hometown of Evendale b/c they were too nice to a small band of Neo-Nazi idiots-they surrounded the Nazis on an overpass connecting the towns and provided them an escort out of an apparently escalating situation. I found it quite ironic that black politicians were criticizing police for defusing a potentially explosive situation peacefully.
Due respect, Matt, it’s not about the marches. My snark was directed towards the hypocritical idiots who spew venom at someone carrying a Mexican flag, in any march, for any issue. As absurd as bitching about having to listen to Spanish when calling a health care provider; why can’t ’them people’ larn English, like the rest of us.
As to your issue with finding few Confederate flag wavers, maybe talk to Chris Hedges about finding them. Here in the south, we have a public display by the crazies every year or two.
Dollars to doughnuts, those complaining about Mexican flags are probably Israel apologist/defenders and empire simps as well.
Matt mentioned alt-right neo-Nazis and pro-Confederate haters, which is much different from those flying a Confederate flag just to show support for states rights, which describes the ones I've talked to. I grew up and still live in the deep south, lived through the whiplash brought on after the end of Jim Crow, and pale-skinned racists are hard to find, even among the rebel flag waivers. How in the heck did you jump from Confederate flags to Mexican flags to Israel?
Those ‘states rights’ propagandists have you snowed. Pale-skinned racists are hard to find? In the Deep South? Hell, I live in NC and I can give you multiple counties where the longing for Jim Crow still resides, and not as a rare commodity.
As to flags. Mexican flag display = actual expression of culture/heritage.
Confederate flag display = your states rights/heritage facade masking racial discomfort (ignorance), or, N-word using racist haters (stupidity).
Israeli flag display = racist genocide apologists
The connection of Confederate and Israeli flags is in the similar racist intent for dominance via the power dynamic; Israel has it, those glorifying the lost cause are on an endless quest to return to the apartheid days.
Los Angeles is not in Africa, and I did not suggest you "go back" to anywhere as I have no idea where you are or where you have ever been. Maybe you are already in L.A.? Hope you are in the nice, riotous section.
I don't think you are really between parties; you just grew up being a Democrat and can't fully admit they left you a long time ago. :) Trump is right but his personality (which also is part of his appeal) is the biggest thing you object to. There just isn't a real fighter to stop this but him. Maybe DeSantis or Vance, but they don't have the appeal to get it done. I didn't even vote for him in the first primary, I liked Rand Paul or even Rubio who I thought articulated freedom so well; I thought Trump was an asshole, but I've been forever grateful for him since. He's no dummy and he's no elitist. So thank you SO much for addressing this absurd "oppressor/oppressed" bullshit Glenn Greenwald refuses to address. I've been talking about this since I left being an adjunct professor. They have thrown out universalism, the baby with the bathwater, and any common basic humanness we all have in common. They are encouraging this violence and excusing it and they are doing it for Marxist power. You are much more eloquent than I am, and of course, perceived as more objective, so as usual, I am forever grateful for your willingness to be a critical thinker. Thanks, Matt.
It’s absolutely possible to be between parties. They are both batshit crazy and damaging the country…just in different ways. I may agree with one party or the other on a particular issue, but I generally think both sides get it mostly wrong.
What you pointed out is past tense for republicans. Trump has upended the uniparty applecart and the wailing and screeching from the old guard is nearly causing me hearing loss. He still has some cleansing of the ranks, but he's already accomplished giving us an actual choice between 2 very different visions. This is why we've seen never-Trump repubs stumping for the Marxist dems.
It’s astonishing to watch people with actual intellect still fail utterly to comprehend the plain facts about that party, facts that are constantly hitting them in the face.
It is a sign of how bad things are that Donald Trump(!) is the leader I am pinning my hopes on for a return to a common sense based country. He is getting us there with two steps forward and one step back. The whole deck is stacked against him, but he plays on. God I wish he could smooth over some of those rough edges, but he’s still our best and maybe last hope for success.
Marxist power?? Can you provide a scorecard? Can’t tell the players without a scorecard. Who is playing the role of Lenin, Newsom? Who’s Trotsky, Cory Booker? With special guest star George Clooney as Grigory Zinoviev?
It's neo-Marxist, Marcusian. As Taibbi alludes to, the proletariat rejected the revolution, so the "workers," now "consumers," had to be duped by the cultural insurrection, of which the news media and universities are the dupes and architects, respectively.
To me Trump doesn't fit anywhere. I think his policies, economic and social, do not fit either traditional Democrats or Republicans. He is, in fact, a common sense person. And what Democrats fear more than anything is that they will lose power as Trump becomes successful. They are willing to sell out the entire country for that reason. They are dangerous people. Some Never Trumper Republicans share this insanity as well, but they are small in numbers. Trump's renegotiating tariffs (they get to have them and we don't)? is brilliant. Those alone will address this debt and it was unsustainable for our children. I do not understand the libertarian types who think it's ok for them to have tariffs but not us. True free trade would be fine, but it was far from that. We can't carry the whole world on our shoulders forever. His social stances are also common sense as is this immigration fiasco. But I predict Trump will be wildly successful and that is something Democrats can't have. They are insane. They want to redistribute wealth and change the US in ways that are not only unrecognizable but unsustainable. America also holds the world together in many ways and if she fails, everything most likely does. Democrats are not very smart. They never were smart in their ideology but they used to be good politicians because they promised people shit that sounded good that they knew they couldn't deliver. They were good talkers; now they can't even do that.
The problem is that none of the protesters violent actions are in the Dems neighborhoods. Should the super governor of California or Illinois have cars burning in front of their houses or a cement block drop through their windows they might be against the peaceful protest. But the elites never get in the dirt with their constituents, they are big brother.
That’s the point. They made 1/2 the country batshit crazy by encouraging them to be victims, oppressed, or in the “wrong body”. Why? A simple vote procurement tactic. Just watch their decisions and how they live vs their rhetoric.
BURN IT DOWN! because I don’t live there.
MARRIAGE IS PATRIARCHY yet all of them are married with children.
ABORTION MUST BE A RIGHT but again all of them have children.
DEFUND THE POLICE because I have private security.
Skin in the game is the solution to almost every problem. If we started importing foreign journalists and professors to do the same jobs at half the pay, something tells me our enlightened progressive clerisy would have different opinions.
Also, migrant shelters should be placed next to the homes of every MSM talking head. You gotta bring the problem so close to their faces that they can no longer wave it away.
That’s exactly the issue. They said don’t worry about losing that yucky manufacturing, you’ll have all these great jobs coding, web design, all sorts of white collar jobs that ai does for free
And once AI becomes sentient, those coders are gone too
Oh don’t I know it. I had a pretty decent career in the IT support/MSP industry. I left after 16 years to go back to the construction industry because I’m not a naive 25 yr old and I can read the writing on the wall.
Exactly. There is a video on reels from I.am.link who shows Newsoms wife out shopping today with a thousand+ dollar handbag and surrounded by security guards. It's pure gold. This guy breaks down CA and I'm it's so funny. That's no different than Gavin having a fancy ass dinner @ the French Laundry during COVID w 20 of his "friends". I basically hate them all.
For me, all of their food and drink left a very soapy aftertaste. And the naming of their menu items was irritating..."Tide Clams", "Ivory Fettuccine", "Whisk Egg Whites", "Gain Brûlée", "All Sampler", "Sun Salad", "Purex Water", "Zest Guacamole", etc. I complained to the waiter about it all, but he immediately raised a white flag and scampered away while saying "Vive la Dove!" To be fair, even though it was clear that the waiter's white flag had quite a long history of deployment, it was exceptionally clean.
Darn it...I should have asked him what detergent he used on that flag!
Saw a clip that showed a woman get out of her blocked car and plead with protesters, “I need to get to work.” A white 20-something guy with a man bun smirked and sarcastically said, “Oh, she has to get to work”…that one incident encapsulates the entire leftist/anti-ICE/pro-Hamas protests on so many levels.
100% it does. The expression on the woman's (the worker) face says it all. I have seen that clip. More footage to be used against the DEM's come election time.
That's why I hated the gleeful comments about how, "Ah, they're just enjoying watching cars burn." More than a few of those cars might actually be owned by working people who depend on them, but never mind, the crazed theybies got their pyro fix (pyromania as well as crossdressing is associated with mass murderers and serial killers, BTW...)
This Megyn Kelly reaction to the NYT Hamptons piece on illegal workers is (the article itself) beyond parody. We’ve reached beyond Orwell and beyond parody.
No, their illegals are compliantly cutting their yards, tending their gardens, cleaning their homes and caring for their children for cash, at minimum wages or below.
I've heard some of the lunatics say the destruction is necessary, but for some reason they never start by burning down their own homes or businesses. I can at least respect in a way the true believers who set themselves alight as at least not being hypocrites.
I understand December 7 1941 was clear and beautiful over on the big Island. Some minor volcanic activity but otherwise a great day for a picnic. Did I miss anything?
I've been enjoying the looting videos immensely. Nothing strikes a blow against unfair immigration policies like stripping an Adidas store bare in under 8 minutes.
Although my irony-meter almost threw a rod when I saw a group of black folk, one guy was even in a wheelchair, stripping bare, what I think was, a neighborhood grocery store that was owned by some poor Hispanic fellow who was standing inside looking befuddled & lost.
Nothing really strikes a blow against unfair immigration policies like driving some poor Hispanic man into bankruptcy & poverty.
I also enjoyed watching all the Hispanic folk waving a Mexican flag to show their love of the country they're only willing to return to when in shackles & under duress.
I'd posit that the overwhelming majority of (D) pols are just paid actors. NOBODY really believes that a man can become a woman, that allowing junkies to shoot up whenever/wherever is "compassion", that "black lives matter" when statistics (and everyone's own lying eyes) show that their policies are most detrimental to exactly the groups they claim to support. Finally, that they are against voter ID - they know they need to rig the electoral process in order to keep winning.
So the question becomes, "who's paying them"? Looks like the Walton family, George Soros and Neville Singer.
Huge world wide battle between globalists and nationalists. People are attached to their homes , communities, cultures and nations. We don’t buy into the one world vision
I have to say the word 'community' hurts my eyes and ears. I have had enough of it already. It has become a homeless word, just like a decade’s use of 'dialog' has become homeless as it never was meant to mend friction. Community was meant as a divisive term; mine, yours, theirs but only in a minority sense.
Oh. My. God. You are SO insensitive and rude with your patriarchal, colonialist, misogynistic, and racist words! The people about whom you speak are called "Enclosure Challenged". 😂
"Hobo" has a specific meaning, though. A tramp works and wanders, a hobo dreams and wanders, a bum drinks and wanders. That's the taxonomy I always heard.
Works for me. Let's adopt it. If Mitch McConnell was here, he could tell me how to get it adopted through Robert's Rules of Order in parliamentary procedure without worrying about a full vote.
My brother and I went as bums for Halloween for years in the 70s. An old work shirt of dad's, rub some charcoal briquet on your face for a grizzled look, muss up your hair, good to go.
I guess my insensitivity started young. I was also Mr. T one year in college and a Viet Cong another year. You can imagine the costumes and, ahem, make-up. And there are pictures, so I'll never hold public office.
My grandmother dressed as a bum for Halloween in the early 60’s and came to my mother’s house trick or treating…my mother didn’t recognize her and freaked out when she tried to get in the house! 🤣
Having difficulty finding lengthy coverage on LA. So far legacy and news nation appear to agree the escalation is due to a law enforcement response. As a parent this strikes me as an adolescent argument: the tantrum is due to parents setting a boundary. Jeesh.
It really is fascinating what happens to brains when the conclusion comes first and the reasoning needs to be supplied as an afterthought. The MSM and the Dems (but I repeat myself) know they need to be on the side of the rioters and against Trump, so they have to make up stupid excuses and blab things that make no sense. The cops caused the riot! It would all be over by now if we'd just let them burn a few cop cars!
The media has learned nothing from their post-Biden humiliation, they are committed to being Narrative Enforcement Agents, regardless of truth, facts or reality, until the last light gets turned off at the last newspaper.
Yes. The argument used to be something like: "It's wrong to blame the woman for how she dresses when she gets raped." This contains the obvious insight that the agency of the rapist is what is at issue in a heinous criminal act. But Karen Bass trots out this exact same debunked "bro logic" - it's not the rioters' fault. They can't help themselves. When they see people wearing a certain kind of police uniform, they just lose control. So.. don't let them see people in police uniforms if you don't want riots. And don't let men see pretty women if you don't want them to get raped.
This kind of argument is obviously so utterly retarded, and yet I genuinely can't tell, are these people actually retarded, or just in on some bizarre mass coordinated lie.. Either way, it has a flavor of unreality to it that shocks me to my bones.. It's a betrayal of the moral fabric that makes someone human, I think.
Your first paragraph is perfect. MSM news anchors are not retarded (well, maybe a few are). They are very handsomely remunerated to support the Narrative. 100% captured. There are numerous compilations of dozens of them parroting the exact same terminology. Ratings no longer matter.
Fox News has had extensive, first-hand coverage of the LA riots. I couldn't bear to watch or read legacy news, which has proven to be thoroughly dishonest throughout the past decade, offering little more than one hoax after another.
This is really hard for me. Both of my sons have bought the MSM narrative about Trump hook, line, and sinker. It's not how we raised them, we always had discipline, consequences, as well as forgiveness (with consequences). Neither of them are particularly "woke" either, except that they protect their gay friends. They had few opinions about Trump 1.0 as well, they were in HS then and we spoke about politics but by then, I was an independent who wasn't pro-Trump, but also didn't have TDS. Fast forward to now, and they both think he's a fascist dictator coming to get everyone. One is worried about academia and the whole Harvard thing, the other is raving mad about LA but on the rioter's side. I have no idea how this happened. I even made them read The Coddling of the American mind back in 2016. Should the one in LA get involved, then so be it. He will have to pay whatever consequences are given by the nature of being so stupid. But I will have empathy because I love him and I wonder what podcasts and media my sons are consuming that has turned them this way...from whatever in November (they both agreed Harris was too low IQ to vote for and so they left the president blank) to fear and loathing of Trump and everyone associated with him a few months later.
I’m sorry, it if it makes you feel any better both of mine voted for Harris. They think Trump is mean and my daughter who’s a doctor (so you would think has some brains) didn’t like the flag that had him look like Rambo. I tried to explain Trump didn’t create that flag, but she and her friends disagreed. They also felt that the assassination attempt was staged. She didn’t even know that someone was killed and others wounded. Both my kids are well educated but you’re right tuning into God knows who to get their political news. My husband and i just keep quiet and have decided we are going to do our best to spend every dime we have before we die.
Oh, I totally agree. Thanks for sharing, it does make me feel better that others in our generation are wondering what is happening to their young adult kids. I'm not at the spend every dime place yet, we still all get along, but I worry for their mental state. They were so strong and focused until recently. Why choose to be so unhappy and angry?
Sad. In my case it’s my father who has bought the MSM narratives. I can’t talk about anything political with him - he’s convinced that Trump is the evil dictator. He’s 84. I’m 63. Thankfully my daughters (24 and 21) have not bought into the MSM narratives! It’s frustrating and 💔 when you see the people you love most so blinded.
It’s just like I use to tell them. Don’t drive after midnight. It’s. Nothing but potential trouble. I would say the same thing, don’t go down to where they are protesting. It’s only trouble.
I don't know.. I spent the day reading how Donald Trump refused to permit the National Guard on January 6th and now is unleashing them on innocent law abiding people who just wish to have a better life in the country they love while waiving the flag of their origins......
On a serious note. I don't know. It's California, I'd rather just use our military to wall it off and let them eat each other.
My big issue with the entire world for about the last decade is simple. People for some reason believe their politicians are better than the other persons politicians. Politicians are politicians because Snake Oil is tough business. I don't care who they are, or what they say... the end result is the same.. more for them and the people who made them, and nothing for those that went to the ballot box.
I respect your opinion but disagree with your premise. Sure all politicians are cut from the same cloth no question. However this past election was a clear choice for me. It came down to government supported censorship versus free speech combined with the obvious and dangerous consequences of open borders.
We likely agree, we just disagree that it can be fixed. As someone who worked in IT for Government, I can say without any doubt... we can't. It's broken so badly, nothing can fix it short of a giant asteroid or pole reversal end of world scenario. The issue is... Humans.. Enough of them.. will live, and in about 5,000 years, everything will be once again, just like today.
Um, I am pretty sure that the "pole reversal...scenario" is literally exactly what has been happening with the transfemale nonsense, so maybe it's not as hopeless as you say?
The most amazing and ignored aspect of this National Guard story, imo, is this:
Given what transpired in 2020, can you imagine today what the reaction would have been had Trump acquiesced and surrounded Congress with the fucking military?
CA should be paradise on earth, and ironically all of its positives make it easier for the leftists to bring it closer to ruin. Awesome food, craft beer, natural beauty, and perfect weather seem to numb people into compliance or indifference.
I am not the first to notice the collapse of honesty over the past 40 years, but it has reached ludicrous and perhaps dangerous levels. Biden isn't senile. Trump colluded with Russia. Hunter's laptop isn't real. Protests are peaceful. Obamacare will lower premiums. The border is secure.
These aren't lies told by a few; they are mainstream lies with almost every member of the media now. What do the people trying to manipulate us expect to happen when no one knows what to believe? When people truly make up their own narrative about everything?
Last week, I had somehow gotten on the email list of an Antifa - like young jackass, so I read his dumbbell newsletter. In it he referred to "the Confederate and Nazi regalia" worn by the J6 rioters.
I asked him for proof of this, inasmuch as I had never heard of it. In his reply, young Hitler told me that he has no time for "sealioning," a term I had never heard before, and that if ever again I called him a liar, which I hadn't, I would be banned.
I found this threat uproarious, and told the nasty little bastard that my life would not be impoverished by my not getting his crap in my inbox, so he should go ahead and ban me.
Have you ever heard that term, "sealioning," before? I googled it, and thought that the concept is perfect for people who don't believe that truth is anything more than what they say it is.
"Sealioning is a form of online trolling where someone repeatedly asks insincere or bad-faith questions under the guise of polite debate. The term originated from a 2014 webcomic called Wondermark, in which a sea lion persistently demands justification for a person's opinion. Sealioning often involves relentless requests for evidence, even when the answers have already been provided. The goal is to exhaust the target’s patience and make them appear unreasonable when they refuse to engage further. It can also be "Just Asking Questions," where misleading or false statements are framed as innocent inquiries. This tactic is commonly used in online discussions to derail conversations and frustrate opponents while maintaining a façade of civility."
I can’t even. I think back when I was young and righteous in my beliefs and remember how warm that feeling was. So I try not to hate the people out on the streets, I was young once too, but I’m having a harder and harder time. There’s a part of me now who would probably feel some little ray of joy seeing a cop club a protester over the head while the protester is inches from his face screaming at him and calling him all sorts of unmentionable things. It just seems like what justice demands in this moment. I have a lot of respect for the restraint the cops are showing tbh. It really looks like to me like the California political machine wants to dictate to the federal government what the immigration policy of the country is going to be with their leverage being the rabid mob. I suppose it’s easier for Gavin Newsome to allow the mob to do his dirty work rather than he get arrested for interfering with the federal law enforcement enforcing federal law. That seems to be why he’s melting down over the national guard being called up by Trump. Gavin would rather the police be overwhelmed and unable to stop the mob from preventing the federal officers from doing their job. And then they get the outcome they want, which is for the federal government to not enforce federal law. When people with eyes point it out they will just lie with a straight face and the news will lie with a straight face and downplay what’s happening and they will get the democrat flying monkey brigade to scream down anyone who disagrees. Funny thing is I watched this happen in 2020 and it was at that moment I decided I couldn’t vote democrat again. Watching that naive idiot, Kyle Rittenhouse, running around with a fire extinguisher, a first aid bag, and an AR15 thinking he was gonna save Kenosha hurt my soul, I cannot lie. I did not like the post apocalyptic like anarchy I was seeing then, and I don’t like it now. Unlike the democrats I actually respect democracy, which I know means I’m not going to always get everything I want. That’s not how democracy works when different groups are vying for control on various issues. But the Party who claims to love democracy really only likes it when they get what they want all the time, and if they don’t, they love mob rule, fear and intimidation (while still claiming their love of democracy).
"It really looks like to me like the California political machine wants to dictate to the federal government what the immigration policy of the country is going to be with their leverage being the rabid mob." Escalate this to a citation in a Taibbi article! You encapsulated the entire thing in one sentence, that's not easy to do.
Having lived on the West Coast (CA, OR, WA, AK), it always seemed uncanny how laws and practices from CA quickly spread to those other states. (I live in TX now, a much saner place.)
Easy solution. Offer a swap program. For every illegal with no criminal record or gang & terrorist affiliations we allow a very concerned, love filled liberal to take his/her place on the Deportation Slingshot. The illegal will be granted full citizenship while the liberal American will be stripped of his citizenship, driven to the border & given a swift kick in the seat of his pants as a parting gift.
And at this point any claim to democracy (especially in a state with several 'unsuccessful' recall elections) or support of the 'worker' (when US workers are being subverted right and left by unfettered immigration and unscrupulous abetters- I'm looking at you, the bitch who wouldn't hire me for a line cook because I wasn't an immigrant she could manipulate...) is not even part of the dem party's purview. It is all window dressing and the sooner people realize that the better.
Newsom has almost guaranteed that he’ll never be President. So, at least there’s that. If he runs, I can’t wait for the commercials where he talks about how the federal government is traumatizing communities, accompanied by video of rioters throwing rocks, screaming at police, and destroying cars. Maybe they can also work in the video of him smiling and bobbing back and forth with what seems to be barely contained glee in front of swaths of burned out houses while talking about developers. I don’t care how good his hair is. I don’t think it’s going to get him elected next time.
The really frightening thing is that people that in the recent past I would have considered normal liberals, including politicians, pundits and journalists now believe that the essence of "Democracy" is angry relentless protest and street theater rather than electing officials to argue debate and pass laws. One time in our entire history did street protest achieve a legitimate result and that was the MLK run Civil Rights Movement. Even if these "protests" were not violent they are not an example of Democracy in action. Democracy in action is putting together a movement to pressure Congress or legislatures to pass laws we favor. The First amendment isn't designed to protect clowns (though they are protected). Its designed to protect speech and expression that is opposed to the government. Its as if the Democratic party has come to believe that it's only purpose is to support illegal street theater rather than legislate or provide a legitimate alternative. This is more dangerous to our Republic than anything else. And of course its worse because they defend violent protest and denounce legitimate enforcement of actual laws that they don't like.
I agree about the hard left. But what happened to actually liberals? I don't think Hubert Humphrey would think the best way to effect change is violent protest.
Yes, I think Doug is right about the hard left. Not sure about what we might call "center left." And actual liberals in the old fashioned sense are vanishingly rare, similar to liberal Republicans that are now extinct.
The outstanding liberal "in the old fashioned sense" during my lifetime was George McGovern. You may be too young to remember McGovern's slogan for his doomed presidential campaign in 1972, but I am not:
"Come home, America."
It sounds suspiciously like "America First," doesn't it?
As someone with a sister in law from Peru, please add Maoism -Shining Path.
There’s a reason the Biden administration dropped the terrorist designations from FARC Colombia and other South American and middle eastern leftist kidnapping gang cartels.
I find it hard to believe that anarchists can succeed in dragging center/left Democrats to support revolution, though anything is possible. A more likely scenario is that most Democrats tack towards the center, eventually. But the energy and big money are on the far left. The party could easily become split in two. The only question is how the Republicans will blow a generational opportunity the Democrats are handing them. Truth be told, the policies of mainstream Republicans today are very similar to those of mainstream Democrats in the 1990’s.
Its not that normal Democrats (there are no centrists) support revolution itself. It's that they havencome to believe that protest and resistance even to the point of lawlessness is the way to effect change in a free Democratic Republic. Its the exact opposite of what our constitution is supposed to be.
I reserve the right to protest against my government when they violate the constitution or are unjust. We don’t have to wait until the next election. And especially now, we need to put the pressure on this lawless administration. I’ve never protested in my life until now. But I feel like it’s my civic duty to stand up to tyranny. If masked thugs dragging people off the street and sending them to a super max in El Salvador with no trial isn’t tyranny, I don’t know what is.
I won't even bother to correct your absurd twisting of reality. It's not worth it. I will simply say yeah you have the right. But it's not an effective way to bring about the change you claim to want. In fact supporting disruptive protest is a very unpopular thing that is likely to cause the Democrats to lose more elections and bring more of what you say you don't want. The hard revolutionaries don't care. They want things to get worse so the whole shebang can be brought down and replaced by a Marxist tyranny. But I assume you don't want that. So think a bit more about who you are allying with.
Protest doesn’t work? What about the civil rights movement. I’m not allied with Marxist or antifa or any of that nonsense. I’m a libertarian. And until Trump 2.0 I was a big fan of Taibbi
In my original comment I noted that the MLK led civil rights movement was a one off in our history. The only time. And it was unique inmany ways not the least of which it was entirely non violent and entirely non destructive. ANd it had a specific liberal purpose. The repeal of specific discriminatory laws and the enforcement of civil rights laws by the governments of these states. Here we have violent radicals attempting to prevent federal officials from carrying out American immigration law. You think this is going to stop it? It's going to make it even MORE popular than it already is. You appear to be too blind to see it. Protest to your hearts content. It's your right as an American. But don't fool yourself that you are doing any good. It's all theater and bs. Which is what Matt is saying which I suppose why you don't like him anymore.
The issue isn’t “carrying out immigration law”. Biden and Obama I believe had higher deportation numbers than Trump. It’s the cruelty, thuggish tactics, targeting foreign students who are here legally, and invoking alien enemies act. That is what I have a problem with. Why not seal the border, require citizenship verification for employment, aggressively deport criminals, and call it a day? I don’t understand masked thugs shoving people into unmarked cars, and it’s upsetting to me that so many people seem to be comfortable with that
I’m not talking about enforcing existing immigration law. Abrego Garcia, ozturk, Khalil were all detained or deported illegally. Using alien enemies act to deport people is illegal (conservative judges have even ruled against trump on this). And I’m not just talking about immigration - the president violated emoluments clause accepting the jet from Qatar. He corruptly sold access with his meme coin. He abused pardon power. He illegally invoked IEEPA to impose tariffs (again, judges he himself appointed ruled that), he signed countless unconstitutional EOs such as overturning birthright citizenship and targeting law firms. Jesus Christ if you don’t think any of that stuff is illegal, unconstitutional, or immoral I don’t know what universe you’re living in
I agree with you, although I wish you'd also bothered to protest against the 2020 "mandates" that had cops arresting people for surfing and hosting birthday parties.
Actually though, I'd agree with you about reserving the right to protest even if your cause was completely stupid. I'm sick of seeing this cycle play out where a whole bunch of protests and one riot happens, and the media aligned with the other political side from the protesters tells us we need to have cops arrest all the protesters, First Amendment what First Amendment.
I don't think you understand what the first amendment holds. The first amendment forbids the government from banning expression. The first amendment does not forbid the government to utilize reasonable time and place restrictions. This is why parades and marches need a permit to be legal. The permit cannot be denied based on the content of the speech. That is why the Nazis got a permit to March in Skokie Illinois. It is not legal to take to the streets and block traffic and otherwise obstruct the normal activities of people. That is not protected speech. It is certainly not protected speech and not legal to cause damage or to threaten or to menace. And it most CERTAINLY not protected speech to disrupt other speech and other activities. That is why people are arrested. Not because they are speaking. You can type whatever you want. The government cannot stop you. You can apply for a permit to hold a rally. The government cannot deny it based on the subject. You can say whatever you want. But you cannot simply start marching down the street and you DEFINITELY cannot block federal officers from doing their jobs.
What did Biden do? He didn’t do much of anything other than abuse pardon power with fauci and his own son, and a shameful debacle pulling out of Afghanistan and I opposed that. Obama assassinated anwar awlaki and I also opposed that. Bush did all kinds of illegal stuff like torture, warrantless surveillance and I opposed that as well. I haven’t been asleep I’ve been following politics and championing civil liberties my entire life
Reminds me of Argentina not long ago. If you have to work to pay your rent you are not there, those people are being paid. By whom? Well, who gains with those riots? My guess is DTrump, now he can use military force against his own people. Not good! The Dems, nothing smart coming from them
There are close to 200 NGOs that have tax dollars floated to them as grant money for 'good causes'. They are all tied directly to the socialist Left. They are the ones sponsoring the riots and paying the rioters. Same happened in 2020.
The Dem party does not care if its cities are razed to the ground and people are killed. They want to save their democracy = power. New One World Government on its way.
Several websites are showing pictures of the monograms those NGO's use.
There has been so much under the table money laundering by Democrat administrations, funding left leaning causes! Makes me sick to my stomach and mad as hell !!!
Jeff Bezos gains from the riots - stores shut down and there's more sales for Amazon. Not sure that Trump desires to use military force against his own people. I haven't seen any sign of it.
Ahhh thanks for your comment, I am from Uruguay and from here down S America we are all very sad with what is going on in USA, such a wonderful country!
Well, sorry if I am completely wrong and biased, but I lived those riots in my country, seen the same modus operandi in Argentina, Chile, Brasil. Ultra left and ultra right, same dog with different collar. I believe in liberal democracy, had to live all my teens listening to a bunch of corrupt and dumb generals till after 12 years we could restore our democracy. Big thanks to President Carter on that . Worked 25 years in politics here, have always admired USA, that is why it hurts.
I used to be a self righteous Republican hating liberal. I became a critical thinker and things changed. A fog and a blanket of insanity has befallen the liberals. TDS blinds their judgement. Common sense left first then the sanctity of the free press left their priorities. They are a shell of their former self and they are clueless to their true plight. Truly blinded.
I see TDS on display daily, with family and friends. I don’t try to discuss or rationalize. It’s fruitless and I know where it will lead. It’s sad really. I grew up in a blue color democratic home. Patriots. Father in WW2, brother in Vietnam. Went to church on Sunday. I remember coming home when Kennedy was shot. I could describe every detail of that moment walking in from school that was released early. I was 7. My mother crying, her friends crying. Those democrats, where did they go? I know where I went. Last democratic I voted for was Jimmy Carter. That did it for me. I haven’t been pleased with the Republican Party either, still am not. I don’t like Trumps bombastic character, but I love that he just doesn’t give a shit what people say about him. I love that he’s dedicated and I truly believe he’s a patriot. He was one of those democrats like my parents. But with a two party system, you have two choices. It stinks, I’m probably more libertarian (don’t know). At 69 I pray more than ever, that this beautiful country I love with my whole heart can become gentler and kinder for my children and grandchildren. Maybe, but it’s hard to see that. We are more divided than ever and that’s what can happen when you let in 20 million people blindly that will tax our systems and impact the poor the most.
Well said. I pray for the safety of Matt and other truth tellers often. They are my heroes. Last Democrat I voted for was Clinton. Unfortunately he has drank the TDS Koolaid as well.
I do not like Trump as a person but he is a hammer of common sense in an insane country full on nonsense.
Amazing that no Dem other than John Fetterman (!) can see this and make a clear distinction between protest and anarchy.
Says a lot about the Dems.
The fact that Fetterman will most certainly be primaried out of the party as a consequence also says a lot about the Democrats.
He is outside their Overton Window.
They are outside sanity's Overton Window.
I guess we'll probably take him. We have people more brain-dead than he is
He is actually back to what he was like before his stroke in 2022.
I note that he became more conservative as his brain function recovered.
Chasing a black joggers "is a bad look" but did not harm his political rise.
Hmmm, can you imagine anyone saying that about a Republican politician?
"He is the "man" the Dems walked away from and just spent $20 million trying to figure out how to attract."
Sooo true!!
Why would the Democrats be fools to get rid of Fetterman? He's a closet Republican.
Believe me, he is no Republican.
Believe me, he's also no Democrat
Count on it…
Add his name to the list.
Uhhhh I love my Jeep Grand Cherokee and will keep it till the day I die
Much better than the Explorer, Durango and the Trailblazer
What year? I bet it's an older one!
It’s 2021
Excellent comparison using the Jeep Cherokee...but should of also added it's incredible low resale value
Any actual evidence for that?
Who needs evidence? Just believe in the evils of anyone you disagree with and it serves like a lotion on dry skin. Brain dead tribalism is a virus.
They sit squarely in the Overdone window.
for a while I could not hear the overton window without humming wolverton mountain. in fact i am humming it now
"The fact that Fetterman will most certainly be primaried out of the party as a consequence also says a lot about the Democrats."
You obviously do not know Pennsylvania. t is a deep purple state and folks will switch parties in the Primary he runs in if there is any serious challenge by statist Dems.
"statist dems"
Why are we talking about John Fetterman? Are you being paid to push his name forward as the next Democratic candidate for President? He’s a product of the Harvard Kennedy School and all that scary grooming that goes on years before the powers that be put forward their boy? Did you read Matt’s article?
John Fetterman is about as lucid and cogent as Joe Biden and THAT is very on-brand for Democrats. He's being primaried because of his revolting, war-mongering, child-murdering stance on Israel and because he hasn't met with his actual constituents in ages.
He's a closet Republican.
Man, did COVID wreck your mind or was it Trump that had so infuriated you that you can't see clearly? Is sad in either scenario.
This guy’s like a not smart or funny feldspar. It’s sad.
Who knows.
Okay, I get what you meant.
(In Emily Litella's voice): "Never mind."
LOL! "Sax and violins"
"try" to guide us? Scouring the Bible for an example of that. I guess that verb doesn't fit the One who spoke us into existence.
Yeah, it wasn't a good choice of words. What I meant was, He will show us the way, but it's up to us whether we follow the path.
Thank you for standing publicly for truth. Your name will be called great in The Kingdom of Heaven.
Stand for God or fall for anything.
not if tribalism beats them to it. which it will
Too many Dems and Republicans believe their brand imbues moral superiority.
Surprise!
https://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2025/06/10/towery_americans_support_sending_national_guard_to_la_59-39_other_pollsters_have_similar_numbers.html
And any poll from RealFuzzypolitcs.com ought to be heavily discounted.
https://newrepublic.com/post/196374/americans-disapprove-trump-troops-la-protests-poll
That’s what people without a brain—or clue—do, honey. You sound like an indifferent layabout.
And you sound like a typical "coastal elite". Do ya think you can engage without condescension or ad hominems, "honey"??
The problem of finding the truth will be 100X once AI rolls out.
So "honey" tell what the breakdown for each poll was. How many dems? How many reps? How many independents?
How many likely voters vs registered? Legal residents vs illegal?
Your discourse doesnt rise to the occassion.
😂😂
Lunacy.
“Like” for your name.
heh..I'll drink to that
They are trying to kill Fetterman now!
Booker and Newsom (perhaps others) aren’t speaking to you and me. They are speaking to 2028 primary voters.
Well, good. That means another republican president will be elected
Yes, he is one of the operators of the machine
Now he wants to be a face
He wants to be the face of a machine we are in the process of decommissioning because it was poisoning the population. The next election must be watched very carefully as bad mistakes try to work their way back into relevancy and power.
Maybe he is "more of the same". I'm still watching, but there is an observable difference - your lineup (even go back to Reagan) generally speaking, those pols didn't publicly despise each other. This seems different.
How did Rahm improve Chicago while mayor?
Was he the one that sold the parking meters for 1/8 of their value, or was that Beetlejuice? Or the current Marxist running the show?
Believe it or not that goes all the way back to Daley the Second.
He didn't. He hid until the video came out.
He fought the machine from being what it is now.
I have zero respect for the man, but I'd love to read a book about his tenure as Mayor of Chicago.
Oh, Hell NO! That man must be nowhere near any seat of power.
He could, but, please, NO. Take a look at Chicago under his leadership…
He’ll never do it. He knows the democrats have been taken over by the lunatics. He can, as others can, see what they are doing to Fetterman and how they hail AOC and Mayor Pete as the next presidential. Idiocy.
Emanuel would be a good candidate (he has brains) but he cannot be a Trump.
He springs from the Lake County IL jewish establishment but had the braims and capability to go national. In another time..
.
they dont live in the same reality.
Bernie did too.
Shows you exactly who they are..
Fetterman is nothing but a right-wing Israel lobbyist, bought by AIPAC. A fascist.
Not really. They purged the moderate wing over a decade ago. Until they realize that without them, they'll never have a majority, they'll always be a vocal but largely irrelevant (in a political sense) minority, despite their cultural prominence.
Lots of people don’t understand distinctions when it comes to protest; dozens of them in this particular comments section.
https://www.nefariousrussians.com/p/way-mo-burning?utm_source=post-email-title&publication_id=3930&post_id=165717231&utm_campaign=email-post-title&isFreemail=true&r=eov1&triedRedirect=true&utm_medium=email
What it says to me is that you don’t have a clue what anarchy is.
That stroke must have been his mind-control chip short circuiting. He's the only one who can think clearly in the whole Congress.
The public scratches its collective head as protesting illegals wave the flags of countries they don’t want to return to.
That photo will become as immortal as the one of Trump pumping his fist. It will live for 100 years. Did you see Babylon Bee's take on it? "Illegals help Republican party with campaign video."!!!
Their other great headline was “Trump responds to mostly peaceful protests by sending in mostly peaceful military.”
(funny how autocorrect suggests “peaceful” after I write “mostly”, and then “protests” after I accept the “peaceful”)
Autocorrect scares me, but it is funny to watch.
Autocorrect is best imagined as a drunk elf installed on your phone. It’s trying to help, but keeps nodding off.
And who will not follow my instructions
the Intention is for You to follow the AI instructions.
Google autocorrect tells me that it's not "the Ukraine", it's just "Ukraine.
Lviv, actually "Lwow"was in Poland and Lithuania for centuries.
Another interesting note on auto correct: it will not capitalize “Trump”. Oops. It just did. It must be listening….
LMAO! Omg, just like the famous video "Kamala's for they/them I'm for you". As Forest Gump said "Stupid is as stupid does"
I wouldn’t be too sure about that.
They think SoCal is properly part of Mexico, having been "stolen" in the 1830s.
I'm totally down with letting them have it, provided they promise not to send back anyone from Hollywood.
I'm one.
<3
One of my favorite books.
Red or green Kathleen? :)
Oh I would! I need to check that out.
My boyfriend's family was from the Las Vegas, NM region. I met them all in CA after they had migrated for similar reasons back in the 40's
PS, there's a few good spaghetti westerns with Irish/Hispanic protagonists...:)
And, while listening to Stephen A Smith, he somehow forgot that the republicans voted for the civil rights act while southern democrats filibustered it. Rewriting history.
Just ask any boomer in Northern New Mexico, or don't, and they will volunteer their Spanish heritage and contempt for Mexico.
“We come and go, but the land is always here. And the people who love it and understand it are the people who own it — for a little while.” Cather, “0 Pioneers!”
My brother-in-law from New Mexico is from that historical background. They have contempt for the new arrivals, seeing them as ignorant and uncultured.
The newbies with college degrees
It was purchased, not stolen.
After an illegal invasion and an offer they couldn’t refuse. Mexico was up to its eyeballs in debt, and got invaded again, by France a little over 10 years later, to collect on debt (ostensibly).
It’s why Porfirio Diaz (who fought in the war against the Intervention) worked so hard to industrialize and modernize the country in the late 1800s.
very interesting!
1840s. It was basically stolen, but Mexico doesn’t have the power to take it back, which is all that matters.
Treaty of Guadalupe Hildago, 1848.
Basically, no.
Barbara Jordan was a singular person. I admired her so much and thought she never received enough attention for her intellect and abilities.
If only she could speak in an authentically black way like Jizzmin Crotchet.
You are so right. She was a good and powerful woman and died too soon. But thankfully, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and in my home state of Texas, we have many statues as well as buildings, streets, parks and schools named for her.
I’m a Republican voter and I too, miss the Democrats of my youth (80’s/90’s).
Hmmm. Strange. Try as I might, I’ve never missed a Democrat
That is money spent in local Mexico economy and each purchase subject to Mexico’s 16% VAT tax.
https://revistamigrante.com/mexico-rejects-proposed-u-s-remittance-tax-discriminatory-and-in-violation-of-international-treaty/
Guatemala remittances make up 19% of its GDP. Venezuela remittances 6% GDP. Honduras, Nicaragua & El Salvador, 25% of GDP. Much of Latin America’s government revenues would be greatly impacted by USA taking an origin bite out of remittances.
Here’s wiki entry for list of countries the world over and share of GDP comprised of remittances:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_remittances_received
It does seem counter-intuitive, unless the unions and/or their leadership somehow benefit. This from 2014, from a black Commissioner on Obama's U.S. Commission on Civil Rights:
"“Granting legal status to millions of people who are in the United States illegally will continue to depress the wages and employment opportunities of African-American men and teenagers,” Kirsanow writes. “It will also depress the wages and employment opportunities of African-Americans going forward. The civil rights commissioner goes on to blast the commander-in-chief for igniting the recent flood of illegal immigration by granting legal status to those living in the U.S. illegally. “When you incentivize bad behavior, you get more of it,” Kirsanow tells Obama."
https://www.judicialwatch.org/u-s-civil-rights-commissioner-blasts-obama-amnesty-plan-will-hurt-blacks/
And they KNOW which companies/plants are employing illegal immigrants.
BRILLIANT
OMG! Excellent comment!💯agree- the lunacy of it all…
Well, I don't know about here, but I do know in most of Europe... those people do return to those countries they wave flags for during holiday. The most amazing thing is they go on holiday while in many cases not even having jobs.
The enraging part is that immigrants enter a country and claim they are fleeing deadly persecution in their home countries but happily return to those countries for vacation each year.
Must be nice to take a holiday. The only holiday I get is every 5 years or so when I am between jobs and can't go anywhere because I am broke.
Well, someone did point out that they're not sending their best.
And burn the flag of the one country that offered them refuge. You can't make this stuff up.
Does ANYONE think these feeble minded, Larping idiots EVER think anything through?
Gavin bets big and loses! Just in Americans support Trump sending in Guard 59-39. Yes!!
https://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2025/06/10/towery_americans_support_sending_national_guard_to_la_59-39_other_pollsters_have_similar_numbers.html
People waving the Mexican flag are indicating a retaking of land that used to be part of Mexico. They aren't wanting to go back to the country now known as Mexico.
I can't think of a better example of insurrection.
Which if successful, means that they're returning to Mexico. 😂
Exactly! I came here to type similar sentiments and now I don't have to.
Kinda like the public scratching its collective head as racist idiots wave the flag of confederacy they do want to return to.
So true.
Must be reverse racism, because all those areas are blue aren't they?
Good grief. Much different?
So what's your point? The Mexican illegals are as contemptible as KKK members?
No. But excellent use of the obtuse in question format.
But that is, in fact, the point you made. It being unintentional just makes it funnier.
Can you kindly fuck off and move to Los Angeles?
Ah! The ‘go back to Africa’ reasoning spewed by a Rufo reader.
Bless your heart.
Los Angeles is not in Africa, and I did not suggest you "go back" to anywhere as I have no idea where you are or where you have ever been. Maybe you are already in L.A.? Hope you are in the nice, riotous section.
Rufo on, my intellectually challenged nimrod.
But keep going; I enjoy chuckling while reading your drivel.
Thanks for the permission to "keep going". I need and value your permission.
A-freaking-Men. Well said. It's all professional wrestling with real life consequences. So tired of it.
Forward.com
It’s astonishing to watch people with actual intellect still fail utterly to comprehend the plain facts about that party, facts that are constantly hitting them in the face.
A true mystery, I surmise…
Courageous comment, Katie. 42-45% of Americans will call you a Marxist/communist, while another 42-45% will call you a Nazi/fascist.
The other 10-15% will click “like.” BTW, those same 10-15% of Americans decide all our elections.
It's neo-Marxist, Marcusian. As Taibbi alludes to, the proletariat rejected the revolution, so the "workers," now "consumers," had to be duped by the cultural insurrection, of which the news media and universities are the dupes and architects, respectively.
Great point. I'd be more impressed if I saw striking workers with legitimate beef taking to the streets and tossing a few Molotovs.
I was more pointing out that calling one tribe Marxists is stupid and as unproductive as calling the other tribe Nazis.
Matt’s problem is he is confused about the meaning of accepting political reality.
Yours are, in order, thinking that:
1) Trump is right
2) DeSantis or Vance being a real fighter
3) Rubio articulating freedom well
4) Trump being no dummy nor elitist
5) Oppressor/oppressed is bullshit (especially rich considering Gaza)
6) Any of the political individuals you reference possessing basic humanness
7) Doing this for Marxist power
Carry on, Mr. Adjunkt
LOL. There you go again. Let someone else talk to you. Matt is not confused.
Hit that edit function, Bari. Wouldn’t want you to be accused of being a CCP spy.
ps. Aren't you from Canada? Why do people not from here always have their noses pressed against the window pane? Deal with your own craziness.
I’m from canada and yes I’m well aware of the catastrophic mess we have here, people like him voted for more of the worst govt in our history.
Imagine the retardedness of that.
Ha. Well you are most welcome to peer over. :)
Why do people not from here always….
I can hear American ex-pats all over the world laughing their asses off at that one. Gold, Jerry!
You're sharper than Karen, I'll give you that, LOL.
And you’re a post turtle. Backatcha.
High praise ...
Bari Weiss and Matthew Yglesias? Therapy alert!
Very funny. Typo.
Last name checks out.
Indeed.
And no substances needed for the buzz.
Trump is basically an old school law and order D like Richard Daley or Frank Rizzo, except he isn’t racist towards blacks.
We wouldn't have gotten into this mess if we'd had the foresight to elect Patrick Buchanan in 1992.
Sentences 1-4 are 100% how I feel. I *wish I was a Democrat, but they just keep doing stupid things.
Well said.
None of them actually believe any of it.
Luxury beliefs.
Precisely.
All/certain guns are only for mass murder but it's ok for the cops, and especially our protective details, to use them.
It's coming as AI replaces most knowledge economy workers. They just don't realize it's coming for the upper class this time.
That’s exactly the issue. They said don’t worry about losing that yucky manufacturing, you’ll have all these great jobs coding, web design, all sorts of white collar jobs that ai does for free
And once AI becomes sentient, those coders are gone too
Precisely. #learntocode remember that nonsense?
Oh don’t I know it. I had a pretty decent career in the IT support/MSP industry. I left after 16 years to go back to the construction industry because I’m not a naive 25 yr old and I can read the writing on the wall.
Regarding AI, highly recommend Destination: Void by Frank Herbert
Written my year of birth 1965
Let’s import foreign doctors and dentists first.
Hey, I live in LA, all my docs are foreign-born, and they're great.
My dentist is a Persian Jew who escaped the ayatollahs, and is good he did, as they don't use novocaine.
We used to. But now every ass with a pulse has been let in.
Yes, agreed 100%. However, I’m sure you’ll agree that prescription will never materialize.
In his defense, feebly, one of the best meals I ever had was in the French laundry.
Haha, oh no doubt
Saw a clip that showed a woman get out of her blocked car and plead with protesters, “I need to get to work.” A white 20-something guy with a man bun smirked and sarcastically said, “Oh, she has to get to work”…that one incident encapsulates the entire leftist/anti-ICE/pro-Hamas protests on so many levels.
100% it does. The expression on the woman's (the worker) face says it all. I have seen that clip. More footage to be used against the DEM's come election time.
They burn the poor parts of town.
That's why I hated the gleeful comments about how, "Ah, they're just enjoying watching cars burn." More than a few of those cars might actually be owned by working people who depend on them, but never mind, the crazed theybies got their pyro fix (pyromania as well as crossdressing is associated with mass murderers and serial killers, BTW...)
all the while telling everyone they’re doing it for the “people.”
Egalitarianism is the official ideology of our elite. It's how they let us know they're better than us!
Love it! Right up there with "conspicuous compassion". You're good!!
lol thanks!
They have Apple stores in poor parts of town?
Well, homeless people have iPhones.
Hot ones.
Nero knew best.
Because they are being paid by the dems in rich neighborhoods.
This Megyn Kelly reaction to the NYT Hamptons piece on illegal workers is (the article itself) beyond parody. We’ve reached beyond Orwell and beyond parody.
https://www.megynkelly.com/2025/02/25/wealthy-hamptons-residents-complain-about-trump-immigration-policies-ny-times/
Thanks for the article
I have zero problem with wealth or the wealthy
Idiotic hypocrites seem to exist in all classes and all economic strata
A tamer version of that did happen once. Jan 6.
We all saw the reaction to it.
No, their illegals are compliantly cutting their yards, tending their gardens, cleaning their homes and caring for their children for cash, at minimum wages or below.
This is by design. Michael Shellenberger from June 8 has an excellent takedown.
I've heard some of the lunatics say the destruction is necessary, but for some reason they never start by burning down their own homes or businesses. I can at least respect in a way the true believers who set themselves alight as at least not being hypocrites.
June 6, 1944 was mostly peaceful, except for a couple of beaches in France.
And December 7th, 1941 it was a mostly peaceful day except on the Island of Oahu in Hawaii…
I understand December 7 1941 was clear and beautiful over on the big Island. Some minor volcanic activity but otherwise a great day for a picnic. Did I miss anything?
Best comment in this entire thread.
Matt brings out the best in us! The comments are always entertaining.
Indeed.
The democrats always make sure the poor pay the highest price.
I see Bass has instituted a curfew. These riots have been in the wrong neighborhoods
I fear you are making points so obvious that most people wont appreciate them like I do.
I also enjoyed watching all the Hispanic folk waving a Mexican flag to show their love of the country they're only willing to return to when in shackles & under duress.
Indeed - today’s Dems are an unbelievable combination of evil and stupid. Doesn’t seem like a winning combo……😂😂🤷♂️🤷♂️
Also that guy in China, I’m having a brain cramp atm.
Naw, they’re just cowards and stupid. The GOP has evil and stupid locked up.
But the Dems aren’t the only cowards -
https://www.hamiltonnolan.com/p/youre-a-bunch-of-cowards?utm_source=post-email-title&publication_id=1536173&post_id=165623759&utm_campaign=email-post-title&isFreemail=true&r=eov1&triedRedirect=true&utm_medium=email
I think you have that backwards, but you need to add corruption to all
Huge world wide battle between globalists and nationalists.
Homeless? Don’t you mean unhoused? 🤣
Oh. My. God. You are SO insensitive and rude with your patriarchal, colonialist, misogynistic, and racist words! The people about whom you speak are called "Enclosure Challenged". 😂
I go with hobo
That's Jack Reacher's preferred term as well, way better than vagrant.
Remember “bums.’
It take a village to raise an idiot...
LOL!!!
“Community” always refers to fake communities. Real communities already have their own names for themselves.
"...yet I genuinely can't tell, are these people actually retarded, or just in on some bizarre mass coordinated lie."
Retarded people think way may clearly then them! Mass coordinated PROFITABLE lie
Fox News has had extensive, first-hand coverage of the LA riots. I couldn't bear to watch or read legacy news, which has proven to be thoroughly dishonest throughout the past decade, offering little more than one hoax after another.
You use rubber bullets and tear gas on your kids? Trample them with horses ?
If my kids were stupid enough to get in the middle of this shit I would have absolutely ZERO empathy for them.
"Why choose to be so unhappy and angry?"
Maybe because all the cool kids are doing it? I have a son in the same lifeboat as your kids.
The only guy I saw get “trampled” was the one trying to light the horses on fire.
Of course not, I can't afford to keep a horse. I can afford a water cannon though...
It’s just like I use to tell them. Don’t drive after midnight. It’s. Nothing but potential trouble. I would say the same thing, don’t go down to where they are protesting. It’s only trouble.
Only when they're being good.
Why yes, of course.
Pelosi turned down the guard presence on j6.
trump offered 10,000 troops.
Even grok, the AI on X (nee Twitter), says that it's fake news that Pelosi rejected the National Guard before J6.
It's actually true, of course, but grok is trained on enough left-wing sources to deny it.
I hate it when people cite AI as fact.
Make footnotes great again.
Just to be clear. Trump told Mattis he wanted 10,000 national guard ready for J6. It’s not a rumor it’s documented
I guess obvious sarcasm isn't so obvious?....
Sorry, can’t see your face nor hear you.
That was Pelosi, she admitted it herself.
Here we go....Trump requested the National Guard on J/6. Pelosi refused his request. That's the real story, not the one you spent the day reading.
Bowser turned down national guard. Ugh. Do you still believe the Charlottesville story?
I had to look that one up. Too funny:
"Sealioning is a form of online trolling where someone repeatedly asks insincere or bad-faith questions under the guise of polite debate. The term originated from a 2014 webcomic called Wondermark, in which a sea lion persistently demands justification for a person's opinion. Sealioning often involves relentless requests for evidence, even when the answers have already been provided. The goal is to exhaust the target’s patience and make them appear unreasonable when they refuse to engage further. It can also be "Just Asking Questions," where misleading or false statements are framed as innocent inquiries. This tactic is commonly used in online discussions to derail conversations and frustrate opponents while maintaining a façade of civility."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sealioning
I guess this is what our children are being taught in those elite universities
Reminds me of the old supposed Jewish tradition of answering a question with a question.
The word is mostly used by leftists.
Like the phrase "leopards eating people's faces", which is solely used to mock Republicans/rightists.
It seems as though they're developing a menagerie of political abuse.
And Newsome flat out lying that Trump didn’t call him first. Trump released his phone log but the media won’t cover that.
Well said.
MLK Jr. was repeatedly denounced as a squish and a sellout by the left, who wanted the same thing they always want: violence.
That was a Rubicon for me. Excommunicating “peaceful”MLK? There were no possible good reasons for that
The Left didn't change. It dropped the mask that it has always worn. These people are the ideological descendants of Rousseau, Marx, and the like.
I'm indeed old enough to remember McGovern. And yes, that was his slogan.
That’s right…
The Republican Party, in my opinion has already split in two
The uniparty vs America First. That's why Trump's agenda is stalled.
I don’t understand masked thugs shoving people into unmarked cars, and it’s upsetting to me that so many people seem to be comfortable with that
Its upsetting to me that so many people believe the lies the Democratic party and the mainstream news media is feeding them. But there you go.
"It’s the cruelty,"
Obama deported people with kindness.
/s
Enforcing longstanding immigration laws=lawless. You might have a contradiction in your reasoning.
Then you’ve been asleep for the last four years. BTW. Do you know who the president was, inquiring minds would like to know.
I haven’t been asleep I’ve been following politics and championing civil liberties my entire life
Remember when America was a first world country?
We didn’t have 3rd world 🔥 riots, with terrorists waving foreign flags like it’s an invasion - which it has been.
This is the future we want for our children?
Reminds me of Argentina not long ago. If you have to work to pay your rent you are not there, those people are being paid. By whom? Well, who gains with those riots? My guess is DTrump, now he can use military force against his own people. Not good! The Dems, nothing smart coming from them
Very sad!

Portions of their cities, the poor sections. It theirs
That’s what they want. The visual of guards and marines going into LA, so the left and media can clamor on about Nazi Germany and Trump is Hitler.
Jeff Bezos gains from the riots - stores shut down and there's more sales for Amazon. Not sure that Trump desires to use military force against his own people. I haven't seen any sign of it.
Marines and guardsmen are being deployed to protect federal buildings but that’s not the media narrative.
Ahhh thanks for your comment, I am from Uruguay and from here down S America we are all very sad with what is going on in USA, such a wonderful country!
Thank you.
Are you actually implying that Trump is fostering/behind these riots? Well, that certainly is a unique view of things…
Thanks. Democracy is a messy business. We will be fine
Someone quipped that the left thinks speech is violence and violence is speech.
Heads, we win. Tails, you lose.
The Left is "truth is subjective" and "better to be morally correct than factually correct".
In other words, no sincere principles at all.
The left makes decisions based on principals, not principles.
Omg that is SO true!
Right; not a quip but doctrine.
Don’t forget, “Silence is violence.”
“I don’t like Trumps bombastic character, but I love that he just doesn’t give a shit what people say about him. “
I think he is deliberately pulling their chain, so he does care about the reaction he gets.
