Never in recorded history has empire been less possible, and no the US could only be considered an empire by ignoring the meaning of the term.

The US is in a decades long decline, but it is hardly collapsing, nor is Western Civilization 'exhausted'. It can't be. It isn't a biologic entity. Inapt metaphor. Speak specifically and accurately.

What the US is and has done was establish hegemony, which is of course, not the same thing as empire.

Which is it? Empires torn down or empires collapsing as part of a natural process? Pick a position, and make the case for it.

There are no barbarians on the borders of the US, so no - you don't where you live. Barbarians sacked Rome at least 3 times with decades intervening. There is no modern corollary, and even if there were, no Rome, and no barbarians.

Are you positing a Mexican invasion? Canadian? Who precisely will tear it down?

With regard to the 'gerontocracy' - they won that fight in the 90s. No shots fired.

Neither does it happen if you want it to happen or not. There is no evidence of it happening. The decline of the US I refer to an can see evidence of is the conversion of the US from a liberal democracy to a plutocracy. It is midstream, but locked in.

Which is to say it is already governed as a plutocracy for the last decade, but the impact of that transition is still rippling through the system.

You are firing the right arrows, in my view, but have missed all available targets by 40 years.

And that is why it will succeed. Not all the without a clue and feckless are on the left.
