The history of the tech biz has always been a race for engineers to ratchet up processing capabilities while simultaneously reducing size. In essentially 50 years the internet has gone from computers the size of large rooms-when DAPRA created the thIng circa 1969 or so-to being literally hand held. Sure, nanotechnology/Michael Crichton stuff is the next frontier, but, essentially, the engineers can’t shrink/crank up the power on the consumer side of things much more-the advertisers have their plaything and the engineers can’t influence them that much on the hardware side anymore.
