When government is allowed to expand, it eventually becomes the 700-pounder that needs emergency by-pass surgery. Thank you, President Trump. for hiring the expert surgeon (Elon Musk)!!!

University administrative bloat, USAID, and the generally bloated government bureaucracies make me think that the historian Peter Turchin may be onto something, and that is the overproduction of elites is the most important factor in a civilization’s collapse. This bloat is a jobs program for the well connected and over educated. What do we do with the wokified after trimming the bloat?

Agreed, but I would change "jobs program" to "cash cow".

Donald Trump and Elon Musk are the quintessential products of the "overproduction of elites" and yes - they are contributing to the collapse of our civilization.

“If they won’t reform on their own, what are we to do? “ That paraphrase is why I am behind The vulgar Trump 110%. We all know that the college admins will not stop growing - they are a runaway cancer- meanwhile the colleges will do everything they can to make a professor into a part time job with no benefits. Screw them. The woke are so far up their butts they are inside out. And there is no place more woke than the awful phony fake self righteous, moral free, American universities. They are absolutely full of crap and the advent of AI will prove that they are a waste of money. AI is a game changer and their scamming ways are going to come to an end. Hopefully people will simply stop going to college. Find better cheaper ways to educate yourself and actually get a job that pays a living wage- if possible avoid college, unless you come from a wealthy family and want a slow introduction to adulthood. It is a waste of money and time for most young people.

As a CEO with a 40 year corporate career, I can tell you that it is emotionally traumatizing to lay people off from an organization. Many managers cannot do it... cannot handle it. They risk holding onto expensive staffing for too long, and the entire business collapses and everyone loses their jobs.

Executive leadership competency, for better or worse, is defined by those that make difficult decisions and take difficult actions that support the long-term health of the organization.

Unfortunately, this performance feedback loop for being effective, combined with the trauma felt by any normal human in leadership positions when cuts are required, causes some people to be become a hard-ass about their role... cutting almost with the appearance of glee for doing the right things. It is an over-compensation for actions that cause almost every organizational leader to lose a lot of sleep.

It is a mistake though. It is a sign of weak emotional character to not deliver the required and reasonable empathy for the plight of the people that are cut.

But it is also a mistake for others to gin up rage against the needed cuts. I have had to deal with that in my career, and I have quickly fired any that participate in activism against management for making needed cuts. These are people that are contributing to a bigger problem that can be illustrated by what happened to Hostess Corporation.

I believe we need to fire all politicians that do this. We need to make cuts. The federal government is bloated. We are spending $7 trillion with only $5 trillion in revenue. Our debt is reaching $40 trillion (not including all the massive state and local debt). The federal debt payments today exceed our defense budget, and if continuing the same trajectory, in less than 20 years the interest will take up all discretionary spending. It is a national security crisis.

Any federal politician opposing the cuts and influencing anger against them are contributing to our national security risk and should be impeached and/or primaried.

Interesting - "and I have quickly fired any that participate in activism against management for making needed cuts." I do not know if the "cuts" at your organization were "necessary" or not. But I do know from personal experience, "cuts" at an organization are often not made to strengthen an organization but are made to enrich the largest shareholders and protect the C-suite executives with bloated salaries and perks. Good thing you silenced those "activists" voices! Looks like you've signed onto authoritarianism hook, line, and sinker! "Any federal politician opposing the cuts and influencing anger against them are contributing to our national security risk and should be impeached and/or primaried."

Wonderful article!!! My left-leaning friends definitely resemble these remarks. They are horrified at the possibility of being laid off. At a recent dinner the conversation came up that someone had several family members employed by the Federal Government. They were afraid of the possibility of losing their jobs, even though they are much further up the ‘food chain’ than most folks in their departments.

I was sympathetic, but asked if they had never been part of a reduction in force. To my amazement they said ‘no’. I responded that I had been mostly in industry and some time in academia and I have been laid off two or three times and had grant funding cut off or seriously reduced. I learned to read the tea leaves, and start looking for a new job before I needed to. I briefly took advantage of unemployment twice, but always found a new job (and often something better than what I was doing before), usually within a few weeks. It may be my sunny disposition that made me good candidate, but I think we need to look toward the future, especially for the generations to come, and not be sacrificing their futures just for our short term gains. The reduction of the 36 trillion (and counting) debt is critical!

It's most likely true in an organization the size of the Federal Gov't; you will find inefficiencies, redundancies, and ineffective programs. A smart, coordinated, well-researched audit could find those, and cuts / changes could be made. That is NOT what is currently happening. A ketamine-addicted billionaire whose main goal is to colonize Mars (who also manipulates millions of dollars of FEDERAL CONTRACTS toward his aims) is video game-style dismantling our government. If you are worried about the Federal Deficit - how about enforcing equity among taxpayers? I think we might get closer to closing the deficit if Elon, Jeff, Trump, and Bill start paying their taxes - If Amazon, Walmart, and Tesla provide health insurance and living wages to their floor workers - so that the Federal Gov't can consider shaving entitlement programs like SNAP and Medicare - without tossing millions of Americans into poverty. Perhaps we should take a hard look at corporate welfare before making your friend Jeff at the Department of XXXX a scapegoat for the Federal deficit.

When the oligarchs are dismantling the Federal Government Programs like Musk, Andersen etal it is more than the endowments we should be reviewing. It is now clear who runs the country with little if any oversight - oh well what could go wrong when their motives are power, control and money- benevolence amongst the ruling class is not a norm. Foundations they create are to protect them and exploit us. Happy days are not here again folks.

Yet even Trump has masters see Zionist handlers making America complicit in Gazan genocide and former Syrian massacres of Alawite Christians in concert with Israel and Turkey -restricting dissent via free speech protests and he has only been in office for 60+ days-meanwhile we continue to arm and inform Ukraine- let’s make a deal - the US is a reality show with real life consequences for human beings and nations every day.

Nope. You are off your meds. More billionaires supported Harris. More billionaires have been stuffing the pockets of quid pro Democrats to keep the corporatist regime going. They are more concerned about big pharma and Raytheon stocks than the people. Oligarch is "is a form of government in which power rests with a small number of people." So the majority voted out the Biden Administration Democrat oligarchy. Buh Bye.

Others universities sitting on these endowment funds while continuing to bankrupt students should be forced to fund student loan forgiveness ASAP.
