Great talk. I enjoy Matt Stoller’s writing, and nice to hear him in conversation with Taibbi. I do hope it will be preserved for prosperity (or for people who couldn’t join during work hours, or on short notice).
Yes, Substack is trying to have a successful product, focused on news, opinion, open discourse, and not on partisanship, angry clickbait and thirst-traps. If that means implementing new features to compete with way larger, multi-billion dollar social media networks, so be it. Nothing is perfect. I'd love for the return of printed small-scale independent newspapers and alternative newsweeklies here in NYC, the inarguable home of the American press, but it's not likely to happen soon. Let's be happy for small, mostly good things as they grow.
I remember well a year or two ago when #resistance stormtroopers, led by Jonathan Katz, tried to force their irrational, one-sided censorship apparatus on Substack for the supposed (but totally manufactured) convergence of "actual nazis" prevalent on this platform, and Substack stood firm. I was personally angrily attacked, yelled at, and/or blocked by some of the worst pundits out there like the aforementioned Herr Katz, the infamously broken Noah Berlatsky, and the imminent idiot PopeHat for gently questioning some of their (il)logic. Ultimately, Substack stood firm and all of these morons moved to other platforms (and further into irrelevance). A small, but meaningful victory.
(All of that said, Substack please make these Substack Live events viewable after-the-fact by default.)
Maybe the biggest scam going is "mental health." We're all suddenly sick, just because we're bummed about silly little things like climate breakdown, the takeover of human by higher-intelligent beings, ever-nearing nuclear war, and the loss of our democracy. Now Big Pharma has found a real vein of gold here. And even as SSRIs and other antidepressants are being exposed as no better than placebos, we still have the head of the American Psychiatry Association telling us how wonderful they are. How expensive they are, is what Big Pharma likes. And yay, insurance covers them! Meanwhile, Big Therapy can be relied on to send "patients" to shrinks whose job is no longer helping people with real and still mysterious psychotic illnesses like schizophrenia, but prescribing meds to perfectly healthy people who happen to be having a bad day. I am not a heartless crank. I've had my own "mental health challenges." At the end of the day, most "mood disorders" are treatable only by a disciplined effort to keep busy and not let your mind stray into dangerous places. This can be done without drugs.
Can’t get in. I have the Substack app and I have updated it, but there are no FAQs at the bottom as Mat had said in his brief advertisement for the financial forum. Keeps going in a loop from Matt‘s thing to the financial forum page back to Matt‘s thing. Oh well.
From what I heard, mortgage-backed securities have been back for a while. And Powell, because of his class relationships and peers, won’t cut what needs cutting, at about 2.5% I drive by and see mortgage rates and am shocked to see 6-9% offers. Attached to crypto in some sort of derivative, there could be trouble.
Will this be viewable after the fact? Love the Substack Live format, but they seem to vanish after broadcast.

Hope to see more of these on Racket.

Walter Kirn has a County Highway newspaper, that is awesome.
Yeah, they're introducing so many features from the other mainstay big apps that it's starting to become worrysome where this whole thing is headed.

RE: A Live Video Conversation with Matt Stoller
I missed this. Can this be loaded to your website so we can listen to it?
Ahhhh shit. I assumed I could watch after the fact instead of live. Guess I fucked up?

I wonder about the intelligence of anyone who perceives the credibility of Starmer & Lammy as anything other than mentally deranged imbeciles!
b/s baffles brains an amazing story of US & UK war criminals supported by totally dishonest Western Media
i.e. How Israel improved upon the Goebbels doctrine
Starmer permanently ties UK nuclear arsenal to Washington (declassifieduk.org)
Author is an 85 year old UK working class Socialist who discovered the UK judicial myth of innocent until proven guilty!
Can’t find that video — it is Saturday already
OK - I found it. Can’t right now post the link since I am away from my desk/PC
Wait a minute…
I have to install the fucking app to watch this?
Giving money to multiple Substack authors each month isn’t enough already?
What…the…fuck
You don't need to hear that I am not up for an additional app today.
I couldn’t find it and I’ve had the Substack App & subscribed to Racket (formerly TK News) since its inception.
