Well done. And well deserved.

Except for Bari Weiss.

I disagree with plenty Bari Weiss says, but I'm grateful for her contribution to this and other journalistic work

Bari played a key role in the Twitter files, not least of which was exposing Musk's hypocrisy when he pushed back on her for exposing that his actions once in power were often no better than those of the oligarchy that ran Twitter before, because abuses of power were simply subject to his whims instead of theirs.

But I also agree with those that note in this thread that Bari's commitment to showcasing heterodox thinking and not punishing people for opinions also shows hypocrisy when the topic is Zion. Blinders go on and the rules of allowable debate are suddenly very different then!

Disagree. Musk having a problem with his real-time location being broadcast isn’t an abuse of power. It’s a reasonable thing given how non-violent his ideological enemies the progressives constantly demonstrate.

He exercised more restraint than I would have in his situation. The guy broadcasting it would’ve found himself being moved in a rolled rug in daylight after a lunatic threatened my son.

how did the sinker taste? the reporters who got banned talked about the account that location doxxed, that is all. they were banned for reporting that that account was banned. elon made a false loose claim to the contrary, but was never backed up by any official statement from Twitter or by any evidence.

If you can’t see a distinction between censoring information at the governments request and censoring an individual jeopardizing your life and your children’s life… we’re not gonna find much common ground on this issue.

The sinker taste fine. I’d still kill any motherfucker jeopardizing my family’s well-being if I were the richest man in the world.

You’re using the term reporter loosely here, imo.

Yeah, don't give credit to someone you don't like even though she was a key part in busting this story open. Let the pettiness go. There's not enough courageous journalists. Don't cast stones at those that have them.

I couldn't agree more. Weiss is a rat and doesn't believe in anything except the career of Bari Weiss and the blind defense of Israel. The stories she's been running in Free Press since October 7th are sickening. And they contradict (once again) her claims about anti-woke commitment to free speech. The anti-woke part is likely true, but she doesn't believe in free speech when her idols are being criticized.

Don't be daft.

Why - just curious -

check her out on joe rogan's show.

Thanks - but would rather read/reflect on a considered opinion or two, that's all.

Check out the pieces that have run in Free Press the last three weeks. She's the editor. And they're all about how Harvard students need to be consequenced for speaking out in support of Gazans.

So? That's enough to deny her the credit on this story? The pettiness of some people is a bottomless pit.

I'm not a big fan of BW, but she came through in the clutch.

More about horror at students glorifying a massacre.

Bari needs to rein in Nellie Bowles. Her posting on TGIF on Nov 3rd were just mind-blowing. She actually supports some of the "From the River to the sea" Hamas supporters.

They were seen protesting the firing of a Berkeley Professor who STALKED and harassesed another professor!! WTF...

Money well spent! Wish Greenwald didn’t move from substack! Don’t read him nearly as often on the new platform.

How beautiful that your father Mike was there to see you accept this important award. How gracious of you to acknowledge, in your companion piece this morning, the many others who worked behind the scenes. Thank you, Michael and Bari , for the massive public service you provide and upon which so many of us depend. And congratulations.

How incredibly proud he must have been of Matt. I'm a New Yorker...I remember your handsome dad. Good guy.

"The public only loses when reporters see themselves as on the same team with the politicians and institutions they’re supposed to be covering. That situation ultimately will produce narrative policing instead of reporting." That should be the basis by which reporting should be conveyed. Sad that NYT's and WaPo's mottoes have become a joke.

Yes, that's the line that really got me too.

The Racket, Free Press, and Public continue to be my best investments for 2023. If I could, I'd thank Matt, Bari, and Michael in person for the brilliant work they've been doing and will continue to do. Well done, everybody!

Same here, fellow subscriber. And I will continue to consistently not give the NYT or WaPo a single dime for as long as I live.

Matt, don’t know which was better; the reporting on The Twitter Files or this acceptance speech!

I’m a boomer and your description and timeline on what happened to journalism over the last 40 years is chillingly accurate, from my perspective anyway.

Thank you for being so determined in getting to the truth. I think a great deal of the political divide that exists in our country is not due to conservative or liberal, left or right differences in points of view but rather due to those who want the truth (good or bad for one’s political affiliation) and those whose only objective is to spin stories for ideological objectives.

Much thanks to you, Bari and Michael. I come from a different background and lean quite conservative. However, discovering the work of all three of you over the last few years has made me realize that friendships are formed and preserved in truth. Peace

Absolutely! I wouldn't give NYT or WaPo a dime to subscribe to them. So glad to be supporting Substack & Rumble. Plus, I get the dynamic duo of Matt & Walter Kirn every Friday - along w a terrific short story. That's gold, Jerry! Gold! [Seinfeld reference - not a misspelling of your name, Jerry]

Are there plans to publish The Twitter Files in book format akin to the Pentagon Papers?

Although I originally wrote this poem for whistleblowers and created the corresponding video for Daniel Ellsberg’s tribute at the Whistleblower Summit, the following stanzas are still applicable to you and your colleagues for your diligent efforts to rip back the curtain on unconstitutional collusion between government and corporations to silence citizens:

You’ve rippled the ocean.

You’ve whipped the wind.

You’ve sparked the volcano.

And even if the Goliaths target you,

even if their thugs assault you,

even if their scientists spike you,

your truth will swell to a seismic wave,

traveling upon the sea of the awakened,

swallowing up our tyrannizers.

Thank you for the post and link to Stella Assange's speech at the Press Club in Canberra. We need a political leader willing to do the right thing. It will take a President with courage to grant a Presidential pardon.

Congratulations, Matt, Bari, and Mike.

Quelle difference when an award is earned, and not simply for participation or parrotting a favored position.

Congratulations, Matt! You all couldn't be more deserving! (Don't you hate it when you get home and an hour later you know exactly what you should have said?) Do you have to split the money?I imagine so. But I'm so proud of all the work you've done and proud that I've supported you, meagerly as my support is. I knew a brilliant, independent thinker when I first starting reading you. Of course, I don't agree with everything you say, and I say so off and on, but that's the point isn't it? That's the one thing we should all have in common. Freedom. We used to have free and open dialogue in this country (less than we thought we did, but better than now). Great job.
