Companies/governments are trying to exploit the convenience swipe cards provide into a de facto demand that everyone everywhere must obtain and carry a digital wallet/government id at all times. You're right to point that out.
I met a retired commercial photographer this year who uses an older I-pad to take superb nature snaps - with some modest post-production work. We enjoy hiking, too. I only carry a device outdoors when I have a specific plan to take snaps, or listen to something. Wildlife and the sounds of wind and water are almost always best. Not everyone has the chance to find that out. Worth noting, I think.
