This was a great episode.

I concur with Walt regarding the stock market decline. P/E ratios were sky high and the AI hype was Pets.com-ish. The tariffs may have been the catalyst (and may one day prove to have been a horrible mistake, time will tell) but the market was way overbought. I lessened exposure throughout 2024. No one can see the future, but for me, the risk had become too great for the reward. "Tariffs caused the crash" is both a convenient political stance and a self-fulfilling prophesy. (And a great excuse for advisors who were gung-ho about getting people into the market last year.)

I’m excited to watch Walter explain to the viewers how Trump pissing backwards on tariffs was a bold visionary move. Also, fuck you walter. You are a pathetic sycophant bitch

Wow! The Walt & Matt MAGA Spin Hour is going into overdrive! Here’s a newsflash Walt- Trump is no friend of the working class. The tariffs are regressive, and they will hit the working class the hardest. But you two geniuses can’t see the second whammy, which is coming very soon, the end of the progressive tax system— read massive tax breaks for the rich and the end of social safety nets. And a return to 1920. Your peddling of MAGA lies on cue is getting predictable.

Matt, you foolishly buy the Big Lie peddled by GOP that we were taken to the cleaners by Europe and China. It conveniently leaves the US corporations and the capitalist class out of the equation. They made off like bandits twice— they multiplied their wealth immeasurably with offshoring, and then they were gifted with obscene tax breaks by the GOP. Why won’t you mention this? I suspect it puts a wrinkle in your stupid fairy tale that Trump is a hero of the working class.

I’ve been tempted to end my subscription in past few months but remained hopeful that Matt’s BS sniffing skills would target the administration now in power. But very little indication that will happen.

Completely agree with Matt’s takedown of pathetic Dems and their free speech issues - sicking the IRS on him was more than ridiculous- but upset that Matt thought the repugs were better. They only supported him in hearings as a political strategy. Now we have a president, trump or musk-take your pick- who will not tolerate any criticism.

Yeah, they’re doubling down on Trump. MAGA has no more dependable and loyal defenders than these two.

For Walt to say that Rich People are worried or scared, about what Trump the Maverick Hero will do - is HIGH-larious!

Billionaire Oligarchs are NOT afraid of Trump or his rhetoric. A lot of MAGA are in a cult, same as some Shitlib Dems.

Trump is keeping the Billionaire taxcuts - he would love to give them MORE money! To say that the Wealthy are AFRAID of Trump is being willfully & blindly IGNORANT.

Matt, sorry to say, I have to agree with most comments that the content of this discussion is below you. Everyone can have a bad day, but you guys have had more than one recently. Hopefully, you’ll get back to the old critical thinking journalist, we love.

I'm really lost. While the rest of the globe is in panic mode, Walter sees a strategy and somehow has sources that know the method to the madness. Now would be the time to reveal such a method. The US Treasury bond market is now plummeting. How is any of this good for working people?

Or is Walter's "insider knowledge" just delusional narcissism? Walter now regularly engages in conspiracy theories and claims of prognostication. This is the kind of thinking that might make for good fiction writing, but it has no place in serious discourse.

I have a pretty clear recollection of Wally promising to hold the Trump admin's feet to the fire.

Apparently that means warming their piggies before kissing them, after which it goes where it goes, I guess.

What I can't remember is any time where Matt challenged Wally that didn't end with Matt going "I guess that's right" to Walt's original point?

Funny as this has been to see from someone who's meant to have opinions, I'm done paying for it.

Another really good discussion by Matt and Walter. I like how you try out different ideas and try to see both the strong and weak points. I appreciate that you can explain your opinions in a way that I can understand. I always feel as if my brain has been thoroughly stimulated after listening to your livestream.

Matt, your rant in this episode about the state of US was refreshing. Many reporters and pundits make a claim straight out of the script, but never spend the effort to provide context or background. The US needs to break its system in order to rebuild. Our Federal Government systems are not precious. They are wasteful and did not provide value to citizens. The system must be restructured and improved.

I am closer to Walt's age - but I agree with Matt more. Walt is waaay toooo confident in his Trump/Elon worship. Matt seems genuinely concerned about the AI- app, cashless society that is coming.

Walt actually believes a "more peaceful world" is coming? HAHAHAHA.

Walt is forgetting the USA's commitment to Endless War for Israel, Endless Funds to keep Israelis' Free Healthcare & Free College, paid for by American Taxpayers.

Walt thinks Trump, his Zionazi Owners, or Billionaire War Profiteers will GIVE UP WAR. Really? Wow.

Trump just gave an EXTRA $6 BILLION to Defense, what do you say about THAT, Walt? What a joke.

until RFK and the trump administration stop poisoning pregnant women and babies with this experimental toxic poison I will not trust anything he does and I will assume that he is no better than any of the Democrats and that Hillary Clinton is his cousin and their conspiring to kill us all because there is no other reason for that poison to be on the market especially when it comes to pregnant women and babies and I don't know why everybody in the world isn't talking about this and only this until that poison is removed because that's all it takes people is for everybody to say enough is enough everybody has the f****** say it

Walt is also privy to Secret Info on how American Education is going to be "fixed" in some Roosevelt-ian way? Really.

Billionaire want more complacent, more OBEDIENT Americans. They aren't interested in Americans with critical thinking skills.

Is Walt talking about ending Public Education and everyone being given an App or Computer Program "for Free," to teach their children at home? You mean an online schooling- with "Govt Approved Learning Modules" created by people like fncking Bill Gates & Elon? Greaaaaat.

"Based on my reporting," says Walt.

What are you talking about? If you just give a bullshit cryptic answer of some magical, self-sufficient paradise coming, and give ZERO specifics, then I have to say you are just defending Trump. Trump could END Student Loan Debt, or how about just Interest-free loans?

Do we STILL get Free Speech, in your Magical New World, Walt?

Or is it 100% controlled by the Zionazis who own Congress?

🧌Bingeable opportunities? The two of you reminded me of the magic of short stories. I recently bought “used” paper version anthologies of the “Big Book of…” or “The Mammoth Book of…” (no more Kindle and Nook) on:

zombies

reel murders

classic horror, fantasy and science fiction

jack the ripper

victorian mysteries

sherlock holmes (fan fiction) (two anthologies)

locked-room mysteries

folk horror

pulp fiction

demons

vampires

rogues and villains

treachery and spy stories

female detectives

ghost stories

I also bought some author anthologies. If cheap used books hadn’t been available, I would go to my local library.

I intend to binge on these anthologies of short stories over the next few months. I am weaning myself off of all video, whether it be YouTube on iPad, PrimeVideo or Netflix on TV. Although that doesn’t include your videos, of course, or other timely videos, like Victor Davis Hanson’s.

My meaning is that one can binge on paper books. Oh my god, so old school.🧌

Hey Walter,

about your big-investors friends telling you how robots are more efficient than human labor, no matter how cheap.

If I may. No, Walter, to a businessman it's not the labor cost per se that matters. It's the return on investment, Walter. ROI is the King.

Buying all those super-intelligent robots is going to be super-expensive, which will make your ROI extremely low, compared to a Bangladeshi sweatshop, where your only upfront investment is some sewing needles.

To quote from Robert Sheckley's Mindswap (written in 1965), "I said you were unskilled, which you are. And I said that a machine can do anything you can do better, faster, and more cheerfully, but not more cheaply!"

Most federal government employees that are getting fired don’t make that much for an annual salary. Many of them are less than $100k per year. In some places that’s a lot of money - in others it doesn’t even pay the rent. Fed employees make less than state employees and state employees make less than local government employees. Programs that are at risk are things like the free lunch program for public schools that helps kids with food insecurity.
