Jesus Christ… ATW has turned into right wing talk radio.

...are you able to give a short definition of that descriptor as you just used it? other than it signifying what your mom is brainwashed to think is "bad".

I just suddenly felt that I was listening to the Glenn Beck hour.

lol, Matt used to pretend some semblance of skepticism, now he just nods along like a bobble head doll at whatever batsh•t crazy MAGA talking point Walter Kirn advances.

Anything not full blown communist idiocy is conservative to you.

Which is ok.

Great episode! Thank you guys. I especially liked Walter’s takedown on Mamdani and Socialism. I support you both being aggressive.

Which animal is Zohran? That’s an intriguing question, but I can with complete certainty tell you which animal he is NOT. Boxer.

Matt,

I have to disagree with your reference to John F. kennedy's "Ask not what your country . . .blah blah blah." It is pretty memorable rhetoric, but it is not the american way. communism and fascism are of course very different ideologies. but they have a number of shared qualities which should never be overlooked. first, they were both reactions to liberal, enlightenment civilization. They were both revolutionary in their reaction. Also, they were both totalizing (totalitarian) systems. jfk's celebrated bit of pr is a step in that direction. it is not a citizen's duty to serve the state, unless that state is a religion. I agree that ideas espoused by the ny mayoral candidate are ridiculous. but not because they are gifts the citizens have not somehow earned. The problem with state intervention is that it doesn't stop. childhood vaccination is not mandatory. but if you want your child to go to a public school, it is. what if you want your child to get free new york daycare? you will need to get that child vaccinated. what else will be required? That is the problem with totalitarian states. they know no boundaries.

I don’t think the problem is Indians being so good, but that they are cheap. The main function of tax dollars going to foreign workers is to provide a subsidy to their employer.

I think this says it all. Mandami “We will prove that there is no problem to large for government to solve and no concern too small for it to care about."

Well even more curious thanks to Darcy Moore, Orwell s buried next to David Astor of the family apparently known as the "landlords of New York." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Astor It's interesting too that Orwell or Eric Arthur Blair's Dad was basically an opium dealer and probably pretty wealthy too, but he never talks about it according to Moore.

This is fascinating to me and for those who want to dig deeper on Animal Farm. The commandment "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others," appears to be influenced by a book by Philip Guedalla who seems like a very interesting person. https://www.darcymoore.net/2025/08/21/animal-farm-a-fairy-story/ The book of essays ends with a Russian Fairy Tale where there is the sentence, "This appeared to gratify the Good Fairy, who believed that all fairies were equal before the law, but held strongly that some fairies were more equal than others." It's a short, humorous and stunning story especially in relation to Animal Farm. Obviously, some inspiration was found here by Orwell which becomes apparent once you read it. This story confirms how I read Animal Farm which is that Orwell was not only critiquing communism, but also describing how welding power over people works in a capitalist system as well. You can read the Russian fairy tale here: https://dn790001.ca.archive.org/0/items/missingmuseother00gueduoft/missingmuseother00gued

The danger of podcasting. Instead of listening LIVE to the predictions, I'm hearing it right as the winner is being projected.

Game 7 was awful

Thanks for the kind words Matt.

But this is why LA spent $350 mil vs $250 for the Jays, buys all that calm cool experience. It looked like Freeman could have napped anytime in the late innings.

The Jays made nerves mistakes, stupid base running errors. Clement set a record for post season hits but game 6 bottom of 9th runners second and 3rd with none out, clement swings at first pitch, high out of zone and weakly popped out.

That was when I first thought we’d lose.

Then Barger, just a kid, got caught for a dumb double play on a little league running error.

Nerves continued in game 7, left so many runners on base.

Painful

Next year, if they hold this team together

I guess Trump listened to your show yesterday and decided to sink Cuomo by endorsing him and ensure Mamdani’s victory so the Republicans can continue to accuse the Democrats of wanting to turn the country Communist, without sounding ridiculous. I can’t wait until this race ends and I don’t have to hear about NYC’s political scene.

Matt I'd love to hear your take on my many tragic hairstyles, over 57 years of being a GenX, the lost generation. I lived through the stagflation in the 1970s, the Reagan Revolution and economic recovery, the birth of MTV, the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, Los Angeles Glam Metal takeover, the rise of the big 5 thrash metal bands (I include Testament), the total cultural takeover of rap and grunge, the awful rap-metal hybrid music, our first Mtv president (Bill Clinton and the Mtv "Rock The Vote" campaign, my boss in the Army Captain Karl introducing me to Rush Limbaugh and the Napster/Streaming Revolution that destroyed the music industry and made the price of concert tickets out of reach for the middle class.

Plus so much more that you (Matt I think your two years younger than myself) and I have been blessed to experience in our lifetimes. Mine came with a new hairstyle every 5-7 years; your's I'm guessing not so much. 😁😁😁
