Protesting is now almost exclusively a left thing. That’s also a big reason why it’s pointless now. Imagine how much of a nobody celebrity worshipper you have to be to protest the cancellation of a show that probably lost more money than it ever made.

But, but, but, I have a parasocial relationship with Stephen Colbert!

He always says those zingers I wish I could think of when racist MAGAts micro-aggress me by demanding whole milk in their lattes! If they only knew I almost graduated with a degree in critical gender hermeneutics

Milk is white, and I have the specialized training needed to know what "whole milk" is a dog whistle for!

I can't wait until Hillary locks them all up in reeducation camps and makes them pay off my student loans!

My points were that protesting has always been a left thing and you have no idea about the history of your own country. I hope that's spelled out clearly enough for your right-rotted brain because I'm done with this thread.

I'm pretty sure most of these poor people want to live in 1984, but only if "their side" gets to be Big Brother. They clearly missed the entire point of the novel, as evidenced by one of them thinking this pathetic bullshit needed to exist: https://www.newscientist.com/article/mg26034600-500-julia-review-a-brilliant-devastating-sequel-to-nineteen-eighty-four/

Help me to understand how a network canceling a show that was losing money and viewership is censorship somehow. From my understanding, Colbert is certainly able to speak his mind and will probably go on and do a podcast or something. The left is so divorced from reality that common non political occurrences are now seen through this totally warped and distorted lens as civilization ending. Meanwhile, while 1984 style censorship was actually occurring during the Biden administration, it was ho hum.

Expand full comment
Biff's avatar

Well said Jen. The left has become so far removed from reality that they have lost all sense of logical thought. They’ve left thinking for themselves behind, totally abandoned it. They just believe things based on their tribal affiliation, that’s as far as they go, not bothering to give some actual thought to what it is they are saying, protesting, or believing.

Sasha Stone, in her analysis of the Colbert situation on Substack (https://sashastone.substack.com/p/the-sultans-of-cringe-who-killed), had the best line: "Colbert was funny once, back when he played a pompous TV host who took himself too seriously. Not so funny when he became one."

Protests by the left are ruining beautiful green lawns or roads. I live close to Steamboat Springs, CO and I never saw protests like I do now ruining a tourist town. The Dems have partnered with Indivisible.org and protest with manufactured signs that are flat out fake news. The NGOs paying these protesters or providing the fake signage must be investigated. So tired of the bogus protests!

Unlike the "fake news" of people being snatched off the streets, no court date, then shoved into a plane and deported--to fucking DJIBOUTI--or Sudan, or El Salvador into a hellhole of a prison. (One person, wrongly sent there, managed to get out and back here: "Whoops, sorry. Sorry we grabbed the wrong person.")

Plus all the other shit that Trump is getting away with. Oh, and BTW, how do you like his tariffs? You won't mind paying a lot more for stuff, I take it?

what is Trump getting away with? that has you knotted up. Everything admin/he is doing is public knowledge and seemingly legal, despite your and others protestations. You may not like what he is doing but you are in a very small minority.

Garcia is one of a handful of deport errors, only disputed by local judges who have no actual authority. If there were hundreds or thousands of these errors, you might have a point. Dealing with 20million illegals necessitates some errors IMO.

Go Trump!!

1. You Win.

2. You Lose.

3. Neither side wins and the damn thing goes on and on until no one really remembers why it started.

4. You win, but in winning to destroy that what you were fighting for.

Shit, even "you win" is a bad outcome. Just look at the aftermath of what we ('Muricans) call "the Civil War", as if ours was the only such war worth mentioning.

The simmering resentment kept alive in the defeated South had terrible consequences, some of which are biting us in the ass even today.

"...what we ('Muricans) call "the Civil War", as if ours was the only such war worth mentioning." It's the only one that has occurred in The United States of America, and repeating "American" before "Civil War" every time would be silly and inefficient. Stop being pedantic, admit you hate anyone you perceive to be not as smart as yourself, and move on.

"The simmering resentment kept alive in the defeated South had terrible consequences, some of which are biting us in the ass even today."

Gee, ya think? Well thankfully it's not because of people who still refer to them as 'Muricans / treat them all like ignorant hicks over 100 years later, instead of actually giving a shit or trying to understand the situations in the South. Or any other actually useful thing.
